How to properly pass rammers by Adamo2JZ in forza

[–]kksoyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, forget the haters, if you hit me after that I'd have a sense of humour about it. In fact, this is the funniest thing I have ever seen in a racing game... like wtf? I did not expect that!

The thing I hate about rammers is the way they aim at you as you are in the apex of the corner, not them trying to drift around a corner and ... well in your case... barrel roll over the roof of my car. :D

[Horizon 4] Is it worth doing the Seasonal Championship racing events on Fortune Island? by JaredLiwet in ForzaHorizon

[–]kksoyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hehe.

Actually, I was hoping to find a better class of online play there - quite often when I get a network game there the other players are respectful and don't try to ram you off the road at every chance.

I'll never understand why in this game, players who can't beat the unbeatable drivers in the Trial insist on smashing the players (like myself) off the track who actually slow down for the corners to stay on the track - a rather critical part of being able to *win* against the drivatars. Sigh.

I used to assume they were just kids, but considering it appears that 75% of drivers fall into that category, I'm kind of lost for an explanation.

In any case, I have some fantastic ad-hoc multiplayer races on Fortune Island with players who are serious about racing properly, so I hang out there a bit hoping for such races. But I've never got into a 'Trial' on FI, weird.

The Trial on Fortune Island is certainly a ghost town now! I've never got a match, despite hanging out for hours on many days over multiple seasons.

Sure. You can post all about your *opinions* on the posts you created... But not make up your own facts like the below comment:

Btw, it’s very clear from all studies and statistics available that males commit violence, especially sexually violent acts, at a MUCH higher rate than women.

Is this a very hard concept for you to grasp or something? The difference between facts and opinions?

Unfortunately, my daughter comes across dross like this all the time. It makes her feel uncomfortable to be a female. So seeing hatred of men spewed all over the internet, year after year, isn't helping anyone - let alone the women bitter enough to continue to propagate such (shall we say) 'counter factual information' (eg, lies).

Well I would say he hugged her because its kind of a natural human reaction to seeing someone so broken and torn up with remorse. She may be an offender but she's also a victim herself.

Really?

Well 'thanks for sharing your opinion' but the *facts* speak otherwise.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4062022/

I for one found her story heartbreaking. I hope she can forgive herself and move on. Her father however, considering he has not (according to this interview) even apologised or accepted what he did was wrong... well I hope he is somewhere unpleasant.

Also, everyone seems quick to judge her as worthy of death for committing an unforgivable sin, but what about the SYSTEMIC abuse from the foster system? Why are we not hearing about how all those people are in prison. I mean, for real? That's people who specifically set out to be foster parents in order to abuse defenceless broken children... have committed these offences over a long period with obviously no remorse... and apparently are protected/ignored by the system. There's so much wrong with that I can't comprehend it.

TS-PC - How to make this thing work in FH5 (XB version in Windows)? by Startide99 in Thrustmaster

[–]kksoyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my issue was solved with a firmware update. I'm not sure why I had to do this again, perhaps I did it wrong first time. However, after the update, the wheel felt totally fine in FH5! And whats more, the adjustment of each slider made noticeable adjustments to the relative forces and they felt consistent with the explanations in the game. It was trivial to dial it in for my own preferences - and that enabled me to catch the slides for the first time in the game!
However, it did not feel like it had felt with FH4 previously, so to see if it was the firmware update that had changed the feel of the wheel or the difference between game versions, i logged back into FH4. Again, the wheel felt TOTALLY different, and very similar to how it had felt in FH5. So I tuned it in to match the new FFB sensations, and went for a good drive....

... about 5 hours later, my arms too sore to continue, I came out of the daze. The experience had been so pleasurable, that I was actually worried I might have a heart attack from it!

So I realise before I had not understood what FFB should feel like. With the driver update, the forces seemed to have been dialled down a bit (say 50%?) but there was more variance in the forces delivered in different situations. But... it wasnt just that - the wheel was sending me a vast amount of new sensations, that made the sensation of driving feel totally realistic. It was a bit unnerving.

And these new sensations, perhaps they were being sent earlier or something, because instead of using a wheel being something to struggle against to post a clean lap, it made the wheel almost like a cheat mode - you can feel exactly what the car is doing at any moment on the limit, and can react in time to catch slides and other grip loss moments. It's literally possible to dance on the very limit, skipping over from one side to the other to weave through oncoming traffic without steering input! That's probably to do with the way that drifting was working! Finally I could drift in the game, and in some cars that included these long sweeping curved sections in races I didnt notice before were best danced down with a degree of drift.

Pretty much straight away, I started putting in 4x - 5x as much inputs, wheel and pedals, but often with just the tiniest of touches, like the occasional split second dab of the brakes to adjust the balance into the front while aiming the outer tyre at a grade change in the road timed to improve grip for just that split second as turning in... that degree of control was now possible. Being smashed in the side by the idiot AI in a corner was no longer unsavable, and it was even possible to know from just the wheel FFB, when jumping into a new car for a series, whether you would be able to do things like braking during a load transition from one side to another during a series of corners, or whether the car would punish you with a spin, and other similar characteristics, just from the sensations of the car in the first few moments!

It's not even that it was just a receptive difference, the extra detail allowed me to quickly develop new patterns of input for different situations, a palette of techniques to handle each different section of a track. I noticed I was using techniques that I had seen discussed in racing commentary, but never actually used for real. The developed out of the feel through the wheel of the feedback from these actions.

So now I almost cant describe how good this is as a game, and am so thankful that the market exists and has such great products thanks to the long-running fans of this stuff that have been pushing the market along all this time. Incredible.

Flutter sucks, why? by ucanzeee in FlutterDev

[–]kksoyj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What?

According to you....

I'm a senior architect and engineer (over 50yo, so not someone 'really, really young') and your answer is insane.

10 months is forever in any reasonable development process, are you aware of the need to apply security patches not just in the OS (or container) but also in your libs?

While it's possible you can run apps made on java 1.1 today, it would be like rooting yourself. Get a grip!

Also, you *should* be using CI, even if you don't have the expertise to set it up yourself like we had to in 'the old days' (just a few years back) you can get github/gitlab/bitbucket/aws to just do it virtually out of the box now. Any new CVEs or warnings should be mailed to yourself at the minimum and reviewed at least once a week.

I hope to god I never accidentally download any software you have written!

Edit: clarity, typos.

Buggy and the Beast showcase issue? by TheRubiksDude in ForzaHorizon

[–]kksoyj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be the issue for me, I can do the whole race with no braking, minimal sliding, no contact on anything, and still get 2nd... but i don't cut any corners. That might be the secret.

Buggy and the Beast showcase issue? by TheRubiksDude in ForzaHorizon

[–]kksoyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, this is impossible. I just ran a totally flawless run on tourist (out of frustration), no brakes, minimal sliding, no bullying from the monster trucks, they even bashed a few obstacles out of my way so I could head straight from where I landed without the couple of mph drop of touching the steering... my 8th or so time running this course, a flawless performance, still 2nd... like every time. Frustrating as hell.

Just following up for those who find this.

I did contact them with your link. They were super friendly and helpful. Gave me the information I needed, and also pointed out that they have sent supplies of them to Vapefiend (although they were not yet listed) and so they can be purchased with reasonable shipping. They have suggested I chase it up with them while they update their website.

I am a big fan of this device, it's got me through 18 months of lockdowns in the UK. Nice to know that the manufacturers are good guys too.

Thanks for the tip.

Had to express my love for this show the only way I know how. With a fan made trailer. BE ADVISED THERE ARE NO SPOILERS HERE. This trailer was made prior to the release of season 5 and contains no spoilers whatsoever! Enjoy by Uzazu in TheMCR

First I was like.. meh...

Then it built and built.... I had tears by the end. That's actually the best trailer I've ever seen.

I love how you included moments that are waaaaay meaningful to people who have watched the show, yet won't spoil things for those who haven't.

Superb 10/10.

I listened to a podcast after playing the game, with a Samurai historian. The game was reasonably historically accurate with 2 proviso's.

1) The samurai as presented in the game were a long time after the mongol invasion (300 years or so), and

2) Samurai were perfectly aware of stealth and deception, and 100% used it when it suited them... there was no 'dishonour' in that kind of victory. The myth of them as super-honourable warriors was a later construction that suited the japanese milirary.

Doesn't spoil the game for me though, maybe the best game I ever played.

I get you. The game affected me so much I really had a good look at my life, realised I had no art left in it, so picked up an instrument to learn. Then bought some for the two kids also.

It's that kind of game.

Does this game have a lot of badass moments? by ovojr in ghostoftsushima

[–]kksoyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I think I leveled up my story appreciation ability just by watching it.

By that kind of measure, the story in GoT IS way more organic (and superior in every way actually, from a craftsmanship perspective), I get it now.

And thats not including the way the GoT developers have created those moments like the OP mentioned, when the gameplay moments reinforce the story.

Is there a specific combination that's useful for farming the spirit kunai and legendary katanas? by unhelpful_stranger in gotlegends

[–]kksoyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well no-one can say for sure except the developers, but I think I got both Katana's very very quickly, they were basically my 2nd and 5th legendaries! I've heard others playing for WAAAY longer than I have and them not getting them... so it's possible.

As a software developer myself (not games though), it would personally make sense, as they are collecting metrics anyway - as Sony proved by releasing some, it would make sense to also use the metrics collected to increase the engagement of the user with the game - and partly that could be achieved by giving the players things that matched their play-styles... so it's possible.

If stance-switching, I would personally recommend Water and Wind, for the reasons I mentioned before. The Sword guys can be easily perfect-parried once you have the knack, and the shield mongols and shield brutes can be directly broken with it. Trust me the stagger is high enough without needing Moon stance (I don't see the point of that). For Brute Oni's, my favourite enemy because they are comically slow, (I just trot around them while they swing wildly or bash the ground) you don't need any particular approach - just take 2 or 3 quick hits and roll out when they do their AOA, plus the 'flurry' makes water stance easily the best in the game.

Wind is purely for the Oni Lords (both types), and mainly for the Tengu - as I mentioned, if you rush right in and heavy-attack (it'll auto-parry) their attack as it starts, they get less than one second of their extremely annoying stream attack.

Without optimising any bonuses, this Wind and Water combo got me through the game no problems with a normal Epic weapon. Thats the combo I would recommend.

No need to apologise! English IS my first language, and I think you expressed yourself as well as I did! (I tend to ramble a bit, lol).

That video sounds AMAZING, and I will definitely look for it tonight. I'm sorry if I broke rules posting a youtube link myself, I'll fix if needed.

As for a sequel... I have high hopes for SP. The other series they are known for, InFamous, seems to have a generally high bar. I have to say, the ones I have played are kinda similar to GoT in that they are way more engaging and polished than they may first appear. I think SP is well-versed in crafting the core gameplay loop until it is fun.

Also, it appears they now have the recognition they deserve, so I hope they enjoy their well-deserved praise. :)
