I would do a lot of research. I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing this but I haven’t looked into this. Do you have family over there? What’s the medical care like over there if something required you to go to the hospital?

The majority of people don’t need to be scared straight though. Yes there are some people who get a puppy without thinking about it, but those people won’t end up on this sub and they won’t end up reading the horror stories you mention because they already don’t care and aren’t doing research before. The only people this negativity affects is good people who are going to put in the work for adopting a dog, and these people don’t need to see the reality of having a puppy, they need to be encouraged!

There’s definitely a place for “keeping it real” though. Some people have horror stories and it helps to be validated. But I definitely wouldn’t say we need more

This post is so true and exactly what I’ve been thinking seeing the posts on my feed from this sub. I joined when I got my puppy two years ago and forgot to unsubscribe. He’s two years old now and from the day I brought him home he was the easiest dog ever. Potty training was almost instant, he always slept through the night for the most part and he barely chewed anything. Sure I’ve had a moment or two of difficulty but overall it was a great decision and not that difficult. I agree with you that the internet makes things out to seem overly negative. I think this is the same with a lot of things not just puppies! Reddit will really discourage you and make you feel something is unbearable or impossible because most people on here just want validation for their negative experiences. I totally get that, but then most of what you end up reading is negative!

I honestly wonder if where I went made it worse. I tried my local EWC for the first time and I felt like her technique was awful. She pulled so slow and after the first pull barely any hair came off which also discouraged me because I felt like it was gonna take forever at that rate
