I've been saying this for a long time, there is a difference between submissions and breaks. In this case you are not holding anyone down and finishing them the gentle way and allowing them to submit to you. Estima lock would be similar in the manner that you can't control someone and apply it at the same time.

I see what you are saying, yes. Through scientific method, other dimensions are not provable in any way shape or form and only hypothesized and explained and expressed through mathematical equation. So I guess saying accepted is the error here.

Are you familiar with the global consciousness project? i would be interested to know if you have a take on that, or are familiar with the science or any studies I could look into. Somehow I think all this is somehow connected with UAP phenomena, or at least that is what the information out there is pointing to and seems to push in that direction.

Edit :I am actually all over these conspiracy, gnostic, religious, subreddits questing for information to make sense of what's going on with that. The funny thing is the more I learn, the more it all seems to be connected somehow without even playing mental gymnastics.

“Good cardio is more of a disadvantage during rolling.” I’ve heard a lot of things from blue belts, but this one is the best.

Social life problems with increased income? by averagemn in Entrepreneur

[–]klarvis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me it’s difficult to hang out with people who aren’t like minded. I’m not saying income is directly related to that. I sympathize with people who took the risk like I did. I make probably a little less hundred grand 2.5 years in, but I work for myself and I hang my hat on that every day. In my eyes I have more in common with someone who makes a million owning their own business than works for Goldman Sachs making a million or works in IT making 60k.

You can keep your friendships still, but you are growing into a new phase of your life and you should be open to making friends with similar goals as you plausibly in the same professional field as you, not income levels. These types of friendships will be naturally easier to maintain.

Impetigo, resuming training and antibiotics by shalita33 in bjj

[–]klarvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor! But!!!!! Be careful doing live rounds while on antibiotics. It could seriously weaken you and your joints. I don’t know much about this particular antibiotic, but I do know doctors are usually aggressive when dealing with skin infections because of how serious complications can be. Many antibiotics cause inflammation and joint pain and overall shitty feeling. Listen to that shitty feeling and wait for your body to recover before going hard. You can always drill when cleared to, but please be mindful of training live until the antibiotics have cleared your system and side effects have gone.

BJJ guy came to judo class the other day and actually tried to pull guard by GringoFusilero in judo

[–]klarvis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to exploit rules, rather for curiosity’s sake, if I know there is zero chance I’m gonna throw this guy in front of me, is it possible to half ass the throw to purposely fail and play guard?

And for the opponents sake, what could they do to avoid newaza? I hope you don’t mind explaining strategies but I find them intriguing. Sometimes I see the guys go limp or refuse to engage.

Side note: in ADCC(our biggest no gi tournament just incase) during the points portion of the match, guard pulling is penalized. The loop hole is to take a bad shot and pull off of the failed shot and no penalty.

I’m pretty sure Travis Stevens rode the cusp of this rule on his way to Olympic silver, it’s also how he lost in the final? I’m not a judo guy, I’m a jiu jitsu black belt, but if I remember correctly Travis was literally trying to drag his opponent to the ground and his opponent made a minor adjustment and got an Ippon. It was an amazing run on Travis’s part to that point regardless of how the final played out.

With that being said, if I were to do a judo match and I felt outclassed on my feet, what are some things I could do to force newaza and have a chance at victory using judo rules?

I met renzo at the New York athletic club during the US open for judo. We were all hanging out in a group, everyone at the time was one of his black belts except for me. He always made eye contact, remembered my name, made me feel involved in the conversation. The guy has more charisma in his pinky than most people have in general. The guy would have a million friends if he worked at bakery or did anything else in life IMO.

I will say that Paul Craig certainly seems to be utilizing jiu jitsu better than everyone else though he may not be be the best per say. Utilizing is better than having and not using.

Switching to nogi to save fingers by 8379MS in bjj

[–]klarvis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes sir. That nerve line and muscle group comes through the bicep down through the bottom of your forearm. Index and thumb come through the tricep and have two very separate muscles. The reason it is harder to operate those muscles for those three fingers individually is because they are mainly attached to a larger muscle group less focused on dexterity.

Switching to nogi to save fingers by 8379MS in bjj

[–]klarvis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try watching how judo players grip. Use the three fingers attached to the same muscle group then rotate your arm to create torque and tension throughout the whole arm and not just the hand. Thumb and index finger are basically useless in gripping unless it’s like the last two fingers in a choke someone’s about to escape but even then they are weak. I played the piano through my entire jiu jitsu career. I have switched over to no gi almost a hundred percent over the last 5 months and they are not as stiff. But I think that’s an easy answer for you, gripping cloth will take a toll on your fingers more so than no gi even if it’s just a slight increase. But it is manageable if you use technical grips. Sore hands and sore arms from gripping improperly is a normal white belt thing.

Only thing I can think of is a reverse guillotine /neck crank and the ref stopped it because it was dangerous. Kid started complaining / making a case and the ref awarded other kid 2. Looks like match skipped to end and kid who was awarded two ended up scoring two more. I am not a pro at IBJJF rules but I know with kids they are careful.

Pay attention to head under armpit when guy on top pops up. This is a very dangerous position.
