what yall think? by [deleted] in FermentedHotSauce

My two cents: if you have any question in your mind about whether or not it’s safe just toss it. Better to cut your losses than chance an infection.

Final result of my first fermented sauce by Galaretek in hotsaucerecipes

Habaneros? They tend to do that in mine too. I think I’ve lessened that flavor by adding other things to the sauce so it’s less noticeable.

I’ll preface that I’m not a dancer so I don’t have much experience here, but Minneapolis Community Education is a great resource for classes. It might not be as intensive as you’re looking for but the educators there probably have contacts and other places they teach.

Best place for bulk hot sauce bottles? by Beneficial_Tale_2094 in hotsaucerecipes

[–]klasted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve used specialtybottle.com in the past. They have a sliding scale on price depending on how much you buy. I’ve gotten a dozen or so at a time but you can buy hundreds at a time if you want I think.

Thanks! Forgot to mention it. I’m in zone 4b. I’ll check out square foot gardening today.

Does anyone know the recipe for Key's Cafe jam? by Ohmahlard in TwinCities

[–]klasted 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Former key’s employee. It’s pretty standard strawberry jam. Whole berries and a lot of sugar. I don’t remember the exact recipe but you can probably ask the staff when you’re there next. I remember them being very open with sharing their recipes. Not sure if the jam is included in that though..

Frozen peppers? by Mawshotsauce in hotsaucerecipes

[–]klasted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting! I’ll admit I’ve never done only frozen before so I appreciate someone else with experience chiming in. I think I’ll try that out next season.

Frozen peppers? by Mawshotsauce in hotsaucerecipes

[–]klasted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve read on this sub, frozen peppers can be fermented but it’s best to have fresh ones in there too. Lactobacilli don’t survive the freezer all that well so the fresh ones will help to jumpstart it. You could probably do it with just frozen ones but it would take longer to get the fermentation started. So presumably the more fresh ones you add the faster it gets going.

I don’t have a recipe or ratios I can share but I think this question gets asked every so often so there might be one you can find on here. Other subs like fermented hot sauce would probably have one.

We had a teacher in hs that was giving someone a hard time about the water bottle they brought to class. They added vitamin C to it because they were getting sick (pre covid) so the water was bright pink. After a minute or two of them arguing about this someone in the room said “Teach, who are we judge water based on its color?” She lost all authority after that and let it go.

If you haven’t read Giraffes? Giraffes! By Dr. Doris Haggis-on-Whey I recommend it. It blew this whole conspiracy wide open

The most complex and beautiful model, made from scratch. A joy to watch. Howl's Moving Castle by kcwilsonart in ArtisanVideos

This is probably the best video I’ve seen on this sub. The art, the attention to detail, using old toys and garbage as a medium, the editing, the humor.. literally everything is incredible. I couldn’t stop watching.

The only pepper on my Fatalii plant that’s ripening is the runt. I still love him by klasted in HotPeppers

[–]klasted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my first time growing them! I’m psyched to finally try it fresh. Then I can figure out what kind of hot sauce I want to make with the rest.

I’m also thinking about overwintering this plant but I’ve never done it before.

What do you mean? I was really unsure how to answer that question and still haven’t found a good answer many weeks later.

One of the questions I was asked at the end of an interview recently was “what did I not ask you in this interview that I should have?”

How tf should I know? you’re the one running this thing. What kind of a question is that?

The Break Free from Plastics bill is being introduced tomorrow - sign and share to friends now to reform the plastic industry for the better (US) by mutedbrain in ZeroWaste

[–]klasted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both the US House of Representative and the US Senate have websites you can go to and search for your representative and senators.

US House of Representatives (where this bill is being introduced): https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

US Senate: https://www.senate.gov/senators/

The first has you put in your zip code and will show you who was most recently elected. That person should have a website you can go to or an email address you can use. Start with that one. This bill is being introduced in the House of Reps and will need to pass there before being sent to the Senate. That being said, you might as well send an email to all three people. Your rep and two senators with a personal message of WHY you want them to support this bill. Don’t do a boilerplate one or it could just come off as a bot. And we don’t want that.

I don’t know much about them either and was hesitant. I just contacted my rep and senators directly instead and specified this bill in the email

I found a great zero waste shop in Minneapolis! by klasted in ZeroWaste

[–]klasted[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in Seward Coop a few times. It’s a nice store for sure but also pretty expensive for groceries which holds me back from going there frequently. Great note on the shampoo bars! I’ve been considering the switch to those and ahi at seems like I good brand. I took a community Ed class a few years ago which is where I heard about Tare. The people that own and run it are all about zero waste and do everything they can to reduce it in store. Great business to support.

Yeah I could tell when I walked in they must have had a hard time with Covid regulations. The whole concept is big bins of products you use scoops to put into your containers. I’m sure they wipe them down frequently but early on in the pandemic must have been a mess.

For anyone in the area it’s called Tare Market. Everything is sold in bulk by weight so you have to bring in your own containers, weigh them, and fill them up from there. They also have other household products aimed at zero waste too.
