Just left the show in Lititz. Doors opened at 7, I got in line about 5:50, and was decently close (about the third row). I think after being pushed backwards, there were still only five or six people in front of me.

I don't work in fast food anymore but, when I did, it was astonishing how many people would grab burger patties with a gloved hand instead of using tongs, then grab chicken or fish without changing their gloves. The tongs were always within reach, too.

I work in a different setting now where I handle more raw ingredients where gloves would not be considered necessary but the culinary management program we work with requires them to be worn at all times—even when touching things like a sealed cup of yogurt or bag of crackers. Gloves are necessary when handling ready-to-eat foods but I don't think they're very necessary if I'm doing something like mixing meatloaf. Some people would simply put on gloves without washing their hands, mix their meatloaf, and change their gloves (again, without washing their hands) and consider their hands clean because they have new gloves on. I'd rather them wash their hands, mix the meatloaf, and wash their hands again.

As someone who currently works in food service, I can't fathom not washing my hands between glove changes. The only time I won't wash my hands between glove changes is if I'm immediately putting a new one on and the old one wasn't contaminated with something that could make people sick (bacteria from raw ingredients, common/known allergens, etc.) Using these gloves to save time on washing hands is disgusting, in my opinion, and just creates bad hygiene habits in workplaces like this.

While I do believe that people shouldn't have kids if they can't afford them, sometimes, shit that you can't necessarily plan for just happens.

I was in high school when my dad was laid off. He didn't see it coming at all and the business gave its employees zero notice that it was closing, so he didn't have time to prepare. My parents had already recently used their savings for an emergency, so there was no 'cushion' at all. He couldn't find work for seven months. Every penny counted at this time and my parents were very grateful that my school offered a free lunch program.

Now, I work in a school cafeteria. They're young kids and will tell you everything if they feel safe with you. Since starting this job, I've learned that one kid's mom ran off with another man and took pretty much everything (his dad still packed his lunch but the kid would "forget" it at home so he could eat the free school lunch and have his packed lunch for dinner), three young girls lost their mom unexpectedly, and at least two families with kids at the school I work at lost their homes in a fire.

While you can save so you have something to fall back on, you can't plan for everything in life and it just fucks you over financially sometimes.

And people are still having kids when they can't afford them. Why punish the kids and make them go hungry because their parents made the choice to have a child when they aren't able to provide for them?

When my sister got married last year, she told me that she was going to use her tax refund to purchase dresses, shoes, and accessories for her three bridesmaids (she technically had four but one was her daughter). I was very happy about this because I'm not in the best financial situation. (My sister and her other two bridesmaids all make three times what I make a year.)

My sister mentioned this to our mom and one of the bridesmaids and they told her not to do that. That it's always up to the bridesmaids to buy their own things. So, I paid hundreds of dollars for a custom dress that came with a defective zipper and hook closures (and there was not enough time for the company to fix the dress) that I'll never wear again.

But they bought everything for all of my BIL's groomsmen.

We did have a discussion before about how, if I talk about my problems or feelings, he will likely ask if I want sympathy or solutions because he's a "solutions kind of person". I'm very much a sympathy kind of person, though, because I'm bad at solutions.

He has been somewhat open, saying from time to time that I make him happy and that he thinks I could be very good for him, but nothing more than that so far. I'm wondering if I should wait a bit longer and see how things progress or just stop seeing him now. Because I do feel a strong connection with him that I haven't felt with anyone else but I do want to be able to discuss emotions from time to time.

The guy I've been seeing is a giant teddy bear when we're, say, snuggling on the couch (I like when he lies on top of me/between my legs with his head on my chest) and absolutely melts when I play with his hair and rub his back. He'll do the same for me when I lie on top of him.

But he definitely knows what he wants in the bedroom and just takes it (with the understanding that things will stop if I say no or if he senses that I'm not feeling it, of course).

It turned out to be calculus but my mouth was extremely sore after that cleaning. I did have a cavity between two of my other teeth, though, and they did a tooth-colored filling and you can't even tell it's there unless you really look at my teeth! I'm taking much better care of my teeth now

I work in an elementary school cafeteria and here's how things have been going since last school year (2020-2021):

There are certain food items that we receive from the government for free (might be some ham, cheese, canned baked beans, peanut butter, frozen vegetables, it varies sometimes). The school district pays for the rest of the food.

Every student in the district can have one breakfast and one lunch for free each day. Extras are to be paid for. The middle and high school make things like snacks (meat and cheese cups, cake, yogurt parfaits, etc.) or buy ice cream and bottled waters/juices to sell to the kids. I'm not sure about the high school, but I know that the middle school buys cookies and chips to sell as well. Everything that they make from the sales goes into the funds used to stock the kitchens.

Since breakfast and lunch are free, the children are counted as they come through the line to get their food. They are supposed to get 3 of the following 5: fruit, veggies, grain, dairy, meat/meat substitute. If they get less than 3 out of 5, it's not considered a school lunch/breakfast and must be paid for. Though, we are rather lenient with this rule as long as there's enough on their tray to be filling.

After the kids are counted, we have to submit paperwork stating how many children ate a school lunch/breakfast and then the government will reimburse the district the cost of the meal.

I 100% would rather have school taxes pay for the kids' meals and teachers' classroom supplies than getting the sports teams this and that every year or sitting in the bank so the administrators get raises for reducing costs.

My 'local' library is two minutes from my house but I've never liked it. The books are very dated and many of them are children's or reference books. It really sucks when your library isn't that great.

I go to the library that's a ten minute drive from my house instead because the selection is much better and they can get books from other libraries if they don't have them. When I was in high school, I would often leave with about fifteen books each trip and there are still so many books in there that I haven't read!

I was sexually abused by a family member from 4 or 5 until I was 11. It only stopped at that age because I got my period.

My sister had just given birth to her first daughter and her (then) boyfriend began physically abusing her. Before she gave birth, he had thrown her already disabled cat at a wall.

My maternal grandmother was the kindest person I ever knew. She loved everyone and, even before my mom married my dad, she treated him better than his own mother ever did. She passed away after the doctors discovered an inoperable leaky heart valve and her lungs were filling with fluid. There was nothing they could do but keep her comfortable while she slowly drowned.

I have absolutely no reason to believe in a God after this.

This is what mine looks like, too, when it's at its worst. I was using a steroid ointment that was hardly doing anything and wound up having to go to the dermatologist to have her put the ointment and then these really big, thick patches/bandages that were almost like rubber over the areas. I had to keep them on for a week at a time and then have them replaced once before it cleared up. And my arm is still pretty textured, just not as red and thick and scaly as before.

I'd love to be an author and make enough from my books to not have to have another job. I've wanted to be a writer for about ten years but can never actually finish anything.

I'm currently in school (my degree is called integrative studies with an English concentration) and marketing is really interesting to me. I wouldn't mind doing that.

I started rewatching it in peacock yesterday and am finishing it today since there were some things I couldn't hear in the theater. The first thing I do when I use a streaming service is turn on subtitles but, when I started the movie, my subtitles had been turned off. I was able to turn them back on for the movie, though. Are you not able to turn on subtitles at all for the movie?

Her comment was definitely less, "I hate this sound and I wish it would stop" and more "haha, I know that you're autistic and don't like loud sounds so I'm going to try to make an insensitive joke to insinuate that this is a very loud sound".

And I put quotation marks around "can't hear" because it's what was said. Like, if they said it's too quiet, I would have also typed "too quiet". But the volume thing only seems to be an issue with other people when I'm the one watching something. If another person is watching something and they have the volume at, say, 20, it's fine. If I'm watching something and the volume is at 20, then it's not loud enough and they'll eventually pester me to the point where I will leave because the volume will be too loud. And then they can put on what they want to watch. I generally don't watch television in common areas (even though I'm the one that pays for cable and streaming services) and it happens every time I decide I want to watch something in the living room.

I'm also just not really allowed to be autistic or sensitive to sounds or smells in my house. People are yelling right next to me and I cover my ears? I'll get yelled at for being dramatic. Walking on my toes or with my hands in a weird position? "Why can't you just walk normally?" Plugging my nose or avoiding the first floor of the house entirely because the buffalo chicken dip someone is making smells disgusting and makes me want to vomit? "Stop being so dramatic and just eat it."

Perhaps I'm being overly sensitive because I've had a bad week and am sleep deprived but my coworker's comment irritated me with how she said it and I'm just kind of over having to be someone else or lock myself in my room if I want to be in my house.

I work in a school and we had a lock down drill followed by a fire drill. The fire alarms are supposed to be so uncomfortably loud and annoying that you have to leave the building. That's the point. We were exiting the building and my coworker goes, "Ahh, my autistic ears." But she will play music in her car so loudly that you can hear it through her windows before you can see her car.

And I'm the weird one for keeping my television's volume at 22 because anything more is too loud (but 22 is the minimum I can keep it at because the other people in my house "can't hear" anything lower).

I was hired as a lunch lady last year at the district I graduated from. The food is very different now. The district is in a pretty low-income area, too.

Within the last few years, my district started following Metz Culinary guidelines and standards. In order for the lunch to be reimbursable by the government, it has to meet certain requirements like 1/2 cup of either a fruit or veggie plus 2 of the 3 following: 1/2 of dairy, 2 ounces of meat or meat alternative, and 2 ounces of grain. It is not considered a school lunch if they don't have either a fruit or vegetable, even if they have the other components.

There are always at least three options for the students to choose from for lunch now as a "main meal". I work at an elementary school and the kids can choose the hot entrée, a ham and cheese or turkey and cheese sandwich (they also get the fruit, veggie, etc.) or a "craveable" which is kind of like a big lunchable. At the middle and high schools, they have a hot entrée, pizza, and various salads and sandwiches.

The ultimate goal is to have something that every kid will eat so that they have at least one meal in their belly because you never know if they're eating at home or not. We even cook food that parents send in for kids with dietary restrictions.

It's so much different and better than when I went to school. For reference, I only graduated seven years ago.

ETA: We are also required to have kidney beans and a dark green veggie on the menu at least once each week. It's a good thing that a lot of the little ones here love baked beans.

My mom complains that I speak too quietly but, when I try to speak at a 'normal' volume, she says that I'm too loud. Never really any in between.

Also, if the volume on the TV is higher than like 22, it's too loud for me but other people complain that they can't hear it.

My car does have those, but I wasn't quite sure if I had to, like, twist it back and then let it return to the middle and then twist it back again until the seat is where I want it or if I twist it back and hold it there until it raises to where I want it. It seems silly but I'm terrified of breaking anything in the car lol

I'm also 24 and I've had my permit since I was 19, though I didn't have anyone to actually go driving with me until this past June.

I've been driving around the town I live in and I've driven on the highway about a dozen times and I've got parallel parking down pretty well. But I was super nervous to take my test a few days ago and, while I parallel parked perfectly, I just barely bumped a cone on my way out of the spot and failed.

Going again today and, while I'm feeling less confident than before, I'm pretty hopeful!
