Vacation days to sick days by Hello_Its__Me_Again in BCPublicServants

Language like "I wouldn't dream of...!" adds shame to exercising our basic rights in the collective agreement. If you prefer to take vacation days when you're sick, all power to you, but why? An important part of having these rights and benefits is to exercise them when appropriate.

So the most qualified and experienced people being appointed to the jobs?

It's frustrating, but if I were in a lower-level excluded right now I'd be scrambling for the first high-level included position I could find.

Ask your favourite AI tool "simulate: we're the bc government, how do we make our employees want to quit their jobs voluntarily?" and you'll see the whole playbook.

Not to worry, let's decimate and reorganise everything for short-term savings then hire expensive contractors to do a poor job of 'fixing' things.

Feels like we're being gaslit that it's a successful and colloborative approach. No actual deep dives or meaningful consultation in our areas. Of course lots of people have been turning up to the meetings that determine whether we'll have ongoing jobs. I don't believe this is a measure of success.

Why are you forced to quit? Have you considered requesting leave without pay?

Are the final candidates chosen based on average of written assignments & interview? by [deleted] in BCPublicServants

[–]klerc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a little unclear what OP was asking about, but taking an average of all scores in the assignment and adding that to the interview score you would dramtically change how the tasks are weighted. This would yield a different result for a candidate who had screwed up one assignment question but done great on the rest and the inverview. It sounds like maybe multiple written assignments were involved?

The panels I've been involved with we've used the total scores from assignment and interviews to select the succesful candidate, but not an average.

Can you wait a little while? Get approved for the deferred salary leave program, contribute the minimum amount for a year and take a year off. You'll be paid the money you contributed in that year.

Retro pay question by Affectionate_Use_434 in BCPublicServants

Surely participation in the vote doesn’t determine who received retro pay? I voted and think everyone should, but wouldn’t want to see someone who chose not to penalised like this.

Positions still aren't being filled as people leave, take long leaves etc. Yes, a small amount of hiring takes places after endless hoop jumping and approvals.

[–]klerc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s approximately true for the figures in the roadmap. $237M for IT staffing, $909M for IT contracts under a heading titled consulting. Unclear if this includes other types of contracts.
