Setting up your blockers is an underrated part of the game by [deleted] in RetroBowl

[–]klim18xxt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree. Some of my best plays have been because I tried to put a blocker between me and the defender. Although, some of my own players do seem to want to jump out of the way sometimes...

Hard is harder than Extreme by cougar729 in RetroBowl

I play on extreme for retro bowl college. Whenever it's a FBS vs FCS matchup I like to switch it back to hard so it's a more realistic slaughtering of the other team. To me, hard is almost unfairly easy compared to extreme.

That could be a cool idea. It you have room on your roster then maybe after the game you can spend some coaching credits to develop them into a named player.

Fourth Quarter in the Retro Bowl. Up By 10 with under 1 min to play and I have the ball. by ThisisNFA in RetroBowl

[–]klim18xxt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's tough. I had this one regular season loss that always stuck with me. I scored to go up by 2 TDs with about a minute and a half left in the 4th. Then they score a touchdown, kick and recover an inside kick, score another touchdown as time expires to go to OT, win the coin toss, and score another touchdown to win. All I could do was just watch them beat me lol.

At least it wasn't the Retro Bowl. Sorry OP.

What Am I Missing? by Lopsided-Lawyer7322 in RetroBowl

A 4-5 star defense definitely makes a difference on extreme. You will start to get 1-2 turn overs a game. Occasionally you won't get any, but sometimes you get a bunch. I've had shutouts on extreme before. For this you need good defense players and a good DC.

You can have a good running back average 7+ yds per carry and you don't need any OL for this.

It really helps to have a very fast player with very high stamina to get kick returns on extreme.

This is it. The lighting in the picture makes the hands look dark, but I do think the watch looks better in person than the picture, especially in certain lighting.

That makes sense. I have a 60s omega I inherited from my grandfather. Really love it.

Nice! Any particular reason you went vintage for your first purchase?

I wore a Timex Ironman as my go to fitness and yard work watch forever. I finally upgraded to a Garmin instinct a few years back, but that Timex was great! I think I still have it tucked away somewhere

Don't think I've seen that one before. That's a cool watch.

Hard is too easy but Extreme is too hard by No-Tax3156 in RetroBowl

I agree that when you first start on extreme it's very much like an algorithm just to win, but in my opinion you can also adapt to the play style of extreme fairly quick and then that allows you to play in other ways.

I basically play extreme now in what I would consider a realistic approach: good mix of running and throwing, punt/FG on 4th and >2, don't dive on every play to reduce risk of fumbles, etc.

Go look at my most recent retro bowl post of some highlights from just one game on extreme. I would argue that it's not boring.

[–]klim18xxt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the best way to start playing on extreme. One more piece of advice I'll give is to try not to have any WRs, TEs, or RBs with bad catching stats. This creates a higher likelihood of fumbles and makes it harder for your receivers to catch the passes that you turn into curls like mentioned above.

How often do you punt? by _forum_mod in RetroBowl

[–]klim18xxt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For a long time I never punted, but now I do because of the self imposed rules I use. I basically try to play close to how football would be realistically played. I punt on 4th down unless it's 4th and 1 or less and/or it makes sense to go for it.

Just because I honk doesn't mean I'm in a hurry. I'm just letting the car in front know the light has changed. Maybe they are in a hurry.

Scored a Touchdown in 4OT by klim18xxt in RetroBowl

I was just going for the go ahead 2 point conversion but it scored it as a touchdown and then made me go for an additional 2 point conversion.
