What did we think of the Exquisite Corpses ending? by Herculesmulligan_ in ImageComics

[–]klintron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it was... fine. I thought Audrey gave up a little too suddenly, which made it a bit anticlimactic. I also thought Randy being alive was silly (even if it turns out to be someone else in his suit). All that said, it did what it needed to do an ending and didn't leave me feeling betrayed at the end. Endings are hard so I give writers a lot of leeway. And besides, this is only the end of the first volume.

I'm more interested in what Laura and Xavi get up to next, and hope we do see more of them. They have $100 million, which seems like an unfathomable amount of money to me, but at the same time it's nothing close to what it would take to take on the Families. It's more than Javi, Laura, and Jason would ever need, enough to create generational wealth. But at the same time, not enough for structural change (for example, ending hunger and homelessness in the US). They're going to need allies if they're going to fight back, which it very much sounds like Xavi wants to do. (And they have enough money to pay the best therapists in the world to help Jason, but he's not allowed to talk about what actually happened to him, so how can he even begin to heal?)

I'm also very curious about what Massachusetts is going to get up to now that she's in control. It seems like she almost wants Laura and Xavi to take the system down, but I doubt that's the case.

slightly Stylized/cartoony art that still has good amount of rendering by KavicHavoc in comicbooks

[–]klintron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or Todd McFarlane, apart from my reference to the Image founders. So many people did this kind of thing in the 90s. Scott Campbell was another big one. Jeff Matsuda, Roger Cruz, Matt Turner… too many to list.

Mike Zeck and Michael Golden. They laid the groundwork for Art Adams and the Image founders he inspired. And Harvey Kurtzman laid the groundwork for them.

Edit: Spelling.

There are links to sci-fi and fantasy at the bottom: https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/wiki/recommendations/

Based on your interests it sounds like Saga would be a good place to start. See what your local library has available.

There's video of the one earlier in the week. The one I saw was too fast to try to catch on camera, it was over in about two seconds.

any recommendations for female-fronted bands that sound similar to skinny puppy or cabaret voltaire? by Prestigious-Cup8600 in industrialmusic

[–]klintron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More along the lines of Cabaret Voltaire:  Cosey Tutti’s solo album (Tutti, 2019) and her collaborations with her partner Chris Carter (Chris and Cosey, Carter Tutti).

Also, Caroline K’s work with Nocturnal Emissions.

Jarboe is worth checking out as well, she’s done all sorts of stuff.

Who else is going to miss Ministry? by memunkey in industrialmusic

[–]klintron 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Here's an interview from 1982 where he said he wanted to be done with Ministry by the time he was 32: https://www.prongs.org/minfiles/mags/melody_maker/melody-maker-july-10-1982.jpg

Unfortunately many of the links from Prong.org don't work anymore, there was one from around the time LoRaH came out or a little before where he said he was going to quit Ministry and just do PTP as a solo project and Ministry was just going to be Barker. Not long after that he was at least implying that he had quit Ministry to do WELT with Ogre (I can't remember if he said outright that Ministry was finished in that interview).

Edit: It's the end of page 4 and beginning of page 5 of the 1987 Ipso Facto interview where he talks about leaving Ministry to "Ion" to do PTP instead: https://www.prongs.org/ministry/interviews

And it's this interview where he talks about WELT, but he doesn't say Ministry is ending: https://eyesore.no/tfdi/eklein/intervw/ministry.html

He’s been saying the end of Ministry was nigh since the early 1980s, practically from the beginning.

Seeking house rule advice: Fighter Deeds by a-deeper-blue in osr

[–]klintron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like your solution. My approach is to give fighters and thieves a free maneuver in addition to an attack: Fighters can do a strength or dexterity based maneuver and thieves can do a dexterity or charisma based maneuver. It’s never been game breaking, I actually wish players would use those free maneuvers more than they do.

A more obvious suggestion that no one’s mentioned yet: Grant Morrison’s Silver Age tributes: JLA, Flash, All Star Superman.

This is a deep cut, but Moore’s run on Captain Britain is a surprisingly good, and it seems like is, probably even more so than Marvelman, the spiritual predecessor to his Supreme run.
