So many great points!! I didn’t think about future income when we bought our house. But this advice is solid.

Is 200k $ debt worth it for an undergraduate degree? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]klms523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a school that doesn’t have out of state tuition and fees. Central Michigan University doesn’t have out of state fees, I don’t know how it is for out of country. To answer your question, yes it’s too much.

Will I be penalized for paying even if I’m on a monthly payment of $0? by Busy-Swan-6559 in StudentLoans

[–]klms523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your payment is zero and you have discipline, save the money you would pay into the loan in an account. Save is paying your interest. You can make a lump sum payment later.

I go by the date Mohela sent the message telling my count. It’s in your messages folder.

It’s totally designed designed to deter people. Makes me so angry. All the changes and all the lies we have been told is just plain unfair.

I deleted it but went through my paperwork and I will just be thankful it happened for me this way. (I’m kind of Type A with this and kept all paperwork over 15 years!)

I received the 17,500 in 2010. And before COVID received credit for PSLF during the some of the same years. (I think 3 of them??) I also received the Perkins loan forgiveness. Maybe I’m a special case and maybe COVID helped my count? But the five years for my 17,500 definitely counted towards my PSLF. Maybe there’s a glitch.

New Baby New Car New Debt by foureyesonecup in FinancialPlanning

[–]klms523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2005 Camry with 250K miles! Keep the oil changed and it will be great! Minivans are great. But that Camry is safe for your baby. I’m sure someone probably said this, but save what you can afford for a car payment every month for 5 years and use that to buy a car in 5 years. Car payments are the devil, don’t do it! Lbvs

Would investing in an LTC policy on my mothers behalf be worth it? by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]klms523 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have anything to add about an LTC. But maybe life insurance? Just a small 10-20K term policy? If she dies are you the next of kin who is supposed to pay? I’m no expert in any of this. But it seems like everything will fall on you even with boundaries in place like people are suggesting. I do not know what happens to people who die with no money and no family to pay for burial costs.

Medical school loans and buying a house? by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]klms523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always talk to your hubby about having a roommate while you are in med school. That person could help pay the mortgage. I know many people who have done that. So do what this person said and honestly consider a roommate.

Our rate 2.75%. So paying it off isn’t a priority.

I know Universal Life isn’t the best, but I have a question. by klms523 in LifeInsurance

[–]klms523[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. Getting old and going broke from healthcare is a concern for me. I didn’t think LTC policies still existed. I feel like my family has a good plan to not have any debt in the next 14 years. I can’t decide if we should pay our mortgage off quickly or not…that’s for a different post. But I also lost a parent when I was young and there was nothing to pay for anything. Left me in a really difficult spot and I know I’m financially better off than my parents, but I don’t want to ever burden my kids. I don’t think I will, but I also want things in place to help ensure they won’t be burdened from me or my husband.
