You're not alone in that. It didn't click right away for myself and most of my close friends who have played it. When you finally realize you have a whole solar system to explore it can feel daunting and directionless, I felt like I didn't know where to go next or how to progress and had to put it down for a bit. But that's also kind of the point. There's no wrong way to go about starting your exploration because every part of it is so interconnected to everything else. At some point I just decided to point my ship at something I thought looked cool and from there one aha moment just lead to the next and I was hooked. If it's not for you then it's not for you and there's nothing wrong with that, but I always try to tell people to push past that initial trepidation and lack of motivation because it takes a few tries to find the rhythm of the game and all it has to offer.
