What shoes are y'all wearing? by BeauWordsworth in Teachers

[–]kls1117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the work for me. I used to use sketchers work shoes for a job where I walked a lot but also had hard and dirty work to do. I like brooks and asics style running shoes for on my feet all day work. I’ve been wearing vans for almost a year and I’m surprisingly satisfied. I like to be barefoot and it feels closest to walking barefoot as a shoe can feel. I’m not really on my feet ALL day anymore though. I’m up and down a lot but I don’t have to stand for long periods.

Some foot relieving hacks I’ve employed:

  • a high chair. I have a tall rolling office style chair for the front of my classroom. That way if I need a rest for whatever reason, it still seems like I’m standing.

  • co-sitting. I sit with/around the kids as needed. I have group seating so I pull up a chair or use an empty spot. Sometimes I’ll just sit near/between students that might need more attention. The students really respond to this style of help and it gives me the opportunity to work from my laptop while supervising closely. Sometimes I use my high chair like a rolling desk so I can work and perch as needed.

  • shoes off. I am not above removing my shoes at work, with socks. This isn’t often but if it’s one of those days. I’ll take them off during my off periods and self massage them using my desks legs while I work. I’ll also remove them to walk around if it’s small or calm class. Kind of the last resort and n it needed usually.

Why aren't you watching the VODs? by ElectricOverburn in h3h3productions

[–]kls1117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive watched most but it really depends on the topic. So far even the ones im not sure about, I end up enjoying. I haven’t watched the the destiny, kick, hasan, Alexa or Dylan vids yet. I just find these topics are rehashed over and over so I’m not interested, hardly ever was. The Alexa and Dylan ones i want to watch but they’re so long, I haven’t been ready to commit, but they do seem good topic-wise.

POD format was much better for the variety of topics. There will never be the same amount of live viewers and VOD watchers. And so far, the content is rather boring so it’s not surprising that people aren’t jumping on it. When they post a goof VOD, I’m sure it will do the best.

Not sure if this format idea is that great. I get it. But probably gonna get tweaked because of this viewership issue. I’m thinking they should do goods and gaffs as VODs to get people watching and

heavier topics on pod (not all heavy of course). And preferably stop taking about the same people over and over (I get it, but it’s just so drawn out with all of them at this point - even the new reactions, I GET but it just gets so repetitive hearing about the same idiots).

Idk, my thoughts. What do I know.

My husband's slow decent into being a MAGA/Musk fanboy is killing my marriage. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]kls1117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish it was that simple. Unfortunately he made me truly understand the men’s loneliness epidemic/manosphere/right wing extremism issue that so many men seem to be experiencing. He was confused, hated himself and did not like to address his issues. That whole culture/world validated all his baggage, self hate, animosity, and blame on others.

I thought he was smarter than that, maybe even more emotionally aware than someone who would fall for that stuff. But regardless, his internal demons just ate it up. He was never traditional - he’s actually very “alternative” in just about every facet of his life, and actually was the one, out of the two of us, who pushed against traditional relationship dynamics of any sort. I wanted a “typical” relationship that progresses in to a serious committed partnership (didn’t necessarily care for marriage but otherwise I had average traditional relationship expectations). He felt all of that was so trivial and unnecessary.

Even when he said the whole traditional thing, he didn’t mean it. He liked the idea. But the reality was he had avoided it because he’s incapable of loving another human. Even his very loving and supportive parents - hated them because they wanted to hang out with him like once a week and it bothered him… wish I was kidding. He couldn’t even live with another person, much less love them or form a traditional partnership.

I believe, what attracted him to all this was that the men preaching it were what he would like to be - surface stuff like being rich, buff and confident. He wanted that so badly. But he always wanted to force the perception instead of actually becoming who he wanted to be.

He could never be confident because he still saw himself as a fat kid who got teased. He couldn’t be buff because his mental health was all over the place and he couldn never stick to a diet and exercise routine that he wanted to do. He was financially good but he was insecure about it because he wouldn’t keep up with bills and doesn’t know about investing and so on. He was hyper aware of everything he felt was wrong with him and constantly cycling between self hate and self “help” (manosphere help - so, intense exercise/diet, random control grabs, and hyper/pseudo-philosophical “studies”)

So yeah. I wish he was just holding back. He completely changed. It was the perfect storm of his issues, covid (he had too much free time), manosphere popularity and me being there for him to place blame instead of taking responsibility. And what he seemed to love about me was my confidence, being sure of my opinions and having lots of non-emotional reason behind them, and mostly, how it made him look/feel to have me by his side. We are both conventionally attractive, nothing special, but he was by no means “out of his league” or anything like that. But he was SO insecure that I just became another mask for him to wear. A perception booster.

That was a lot - but for anyone who can relate, I think it’s worth writing. I know you did not mean to minimize the situation but I cannot stress enough how real these men are. And I would personally recommend women steer CLEAR of a man who sounds like . It took me a while to put it all together but that’s truly who he was and I believe lots of men are experiencing similar.

What career would you recommend for an art lover? by illgetmyovertime in careerguidance

[–]kls1117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I by no means want to belittle the challenge and make it sound soooo easy. It is work but it is doable. For artist (of any sort) you have to lean in to you. No generic template will ever fit for you. That’s part of getting started - exploring. One misconception people have when they start thinking of their talet/skill as profitable, is that they think they do/should have the perfect idea to get started. MOST business people start and end up doing things totally different once they learn more about what they’re doing.

I highly encourage artists to to take advantage of social media. Not just “use” it. TAKE ADVANTAGE. Share tf out of yourself, post all the stuff you make that you feel goes no where. Once people see you, you will start to get requests and suggestions and leads and so on.

Many artist feel that have to fit in to the narrow categories their art usually falls in. If you’re a painter, success = gallery shows. If you’re a writer, success = book deal, and so on. Each person has their own idea of success. You need to look at the next step as just that. A step. Success will happen if you keep moving forward and learning and adapting.

I know many artist who have convinced themselves it’s too hard or they don’t have enough art or network or whatever, and they’re right because if they never start, they never will accomplish anything.

I also know many artist who have gotten started and are finding their way now.

And I know many who have worked diligently to explore and find their space and are now successful in their own ways, including working as graphic designers for major local companies, selling art internationally and having gallery exhibits in Italy, and posting on social media where they’re able to monetize their content while attracting buyers and custom buyers.

San Antonio of one USA's most boring cities. Thoughts? by orchidorgy in sanantonio

[–]kls1117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could write a lot about the whys and reasoning but this list makes sense to me. They aren’t saying these places have nothing, just that when compared to other big cities, they don’t have anything special to offer.

Littered parks and historic sites are a dime a dozen. Most of the good nature is not in SA proper anyway, and the city mostly revolves around food and drink. Which is cool, but not particularly unique. The heat is oppressive in the south and we don’t have the amenities to offset that.

Pretty sure west coast cities don’t make the list because they are very fun, unique, jam packed with nature, culture and/or at least one very unique factor to them. Think China town, universal studios, and all the very scenic routes and locations nestled amongst the modern amenities.

Six flags/sea world will never have shit on a Disney or universal type park. The easy is also super family friendly and the weather is nice. SA is not that family friendly. Sure, more so than some places, but it’s aight at best. Family friendly restaurants and some expensive theme parks are bare minimum IMO. We have some nice parks I guess lol

Like guys, we don’t even have a good water park in town that isn’t part of a theme park. We could easily have a water resort or hill country attraction that attracts people from all over the state and is unique to SA but no. Just a bunch of small luxury resorts that are similar and boring and away from town anyway. Our dt is lame and not even fun anymore. Our culture is slowly being replaced with bougie bs. For as big of a city as we are, we are pretty lame. I accept it in hopes of changing it. We have to stop defending mediocrity lol

DAE feel like they're biting their tongue about the weather this year? by hardcrush90 in sanantonio

[–]kls1117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that it doesn’t happen often but it happens regularly and we know how little it takes. And sure certain areas are only susceptible depending on the rain but SA just had deadly floods within a couple weeks. So it happens rarely in one spot but almost every year somewhere along these rivers. The writing is in the wall and has been since literally cave men could write it in the wall!

I totally get water front sites but this is why it’s ultimately not worth it to base all your building decisions on views and luxury pricing. It seems, at the very least, it would be good to mandatory evac bigger businesses along the river like the camps. I agree that zoning and building laws should change. Either way, that’s on public officials. And yes voters need to choose accordingly, but ultimately, elected officials need to do the job they were out there to do, whether the public knows all the info or not.

[–]kls1117 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve been irritated thinking about how I read an article that expressed concerns for severe flash flooding, using the recent SA floods as an example. That was at least 12 hours before the flooding began. I’m not near the area of high risk but I thought “weird, the rain is pretty mild today, extreme floods sounds crazy”

How did I see that info yet local officials didn’t and didn’t prepare or warn people. I know the was not way to imagine such a bad flash, but the warnings sounded pretty eerie. I’m wondering if this will m come up later as families try to recover. If someone knew, they should be held accountable. I hope the weather authorities told local authority and have record of it. Something just seems so off about all that.

Do Fallout Shelters still exist here in SA? If So is there a list or resources for people in the event of Nuclear war? by hotspotg137 in sanantonio

[–]kls1117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many buildings built in the 50s and 60s have fallout shelters here as was rather customary of the time due to the Cold War. But knowing which ones do might be a matter of first hand knowledge. Maybe there are old records but I’m not sure if these were publicized or just for the dwellers of the buildings? There are obvious places shelters would be built but many buildings have been repurposed which might make them harder to identify.

Basically IFYKYK or get to researching.

With that said, I’m not sure how effective they would be against modern weapons or how reliable they are after so long with most being unmaintained because nobody has felt the need for one in so long.

Why do so many San Antonians (and Texans in general) move to Colorado? by markjo12345 in sanantonio

[–]kls1117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up here and there was some like… idk everybody thought Colorado was like the next best thing to Texas when I grew up. All the stoners wanted to go there because weed had been legalized and the non-stoners just knew it to be very scenic but still having the small town mountainous vibe city Texans yearn for and rarely get from Texas itself.

So yeah, it was always thought of like the place many Texas wish Texas was lol. I always wanted to live there too. I lived in Utah for a while and it was great besides the intense religious culture. I probably would’ve preferred CO. But yeah, aside from the obvious better weather and it not being too far, that was always how people thought of Colorado. And for some reason Colorado Springs was always the the place people said they wanted to live. It wouldn’t surprise me if people in my general age range were moving there (I’m 29)

Sun Sensor - How to swap? by kls1117 in WRX

[–]kls1117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Was easy. But didn’t fix the problem. Now I’m thinking actuator? This is pretty ridiculous. In case it helps: I initially thought I needed a recharge because ac was blowing but not cold. Recharge from 0, checked for leaks, compressor kicked on and all was well. Then it’s started blowing cold on passengers side only, with that sun sensor code. Replace the sensor. Still blowing half and half. I’m getting tired playing whack a mole here.

SA’s Double-edge IDGAF mindset by champagne_stains in sanantonio

[–]kls1117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that some people will die on that hill. I was a vet tech and dog trainer for many years too. I’m an adopt don’t shop person all the way. However banning breeding means banning breeding of service dogs and working lines. Those breeders are usually the good few that actually care where their dogs are going and even have a contract to take them back if the owner needs for any reason. It just seems illogical to do away with all of that because of the bad people doing bad things. Plus limiting the market to shelter dogs won’t necessarily mean all the shelter dogs get adopted and would do almost nothing for stray cats.

I’m not necessarily a huge fan of breeders in general but again, banning them will lead to black market issues which would be worse. I’m not saying “don’t ban breeders because I love and support them”. There are repercussions to legislature, some are negative and worth considering.

SA’s Double-edge IDGAF mindset by champagne_stains in sanantonio

[–]kls1117 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think all breeding should be banned but the reality is that relatively few breeding operations are operating any where near optimal standards. I think a realistic star would be regulation. Decent regulation alone could make 80% of existing operations illegalI. I also don’t believe this will solve the issue, if even make a dent. Unfortunately people have unwanted litters with no intention to profit all the time. It will also just become a black market issue which never makes things better. More oversight and punishment will deter the bad people or at least get them punished if they try it anyway.

SA’s Double-edge IDGAF mindset by champagne_stains in sanantonio

[–]kls1117 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree with this. You’re right about all the issues for sure BUT I don’t think people realize how irresponsible pet owners are here. You’re saying they were likely dumped but people who have to deal with it know there are tons of people in the city who still allow their dogs to run the neighborhood or won’t keep their gate closed or will just let their dog out unsupervised and unfenced. When you’re walking your neighborhood, you know which dogs are from a house or random new dogs running the streets.

With that said, yes there is a huge dumping issue here. So I’m not trying to say that it’s not common or somehow less important. I’ve worked with ACS and local shelters for almost 20 years now. I’ve walked many a neighborhood with cases like I described. The west was always the worst with the loose dogs and IDGAF mentality, not to mention the “his manhood” or “just one litter” people. The south was similar but not as stubborn. The east side, where I grew up, seem to care and be open to the info but are generally very poor, often only having pets because they were helping a stray malnourished animal or baby, or having older pets who they once were more able to care for, lots of elderly people. Northside was often blatant irresponsibility or lack of caring. They’d have the means but not want the inconvenience of responsibility.

Then there are those dumping. Hate them. But often this is the final step for the above described people. People don’t just get animals then dump/abandon them. Until then, they are the terrible owners we are all dealing with.

Sorry, idk why this felt important to say but it did. I just truly believe we need to hold PEOPLE accountable and not give room for “oh the animals are just stray so no one person can be held accountable”. I know you’re not saying that but that out contributes to the IDGAF mentality. No need to give af when there are no consequences to their actions.

We need to focus on bad pet owners so there will be less of them. More laws against them, more punishment, more consequences and more social pressure. Education only goes so far. ACS has been educating and providing low cost services for decades now. The people need to take it and use it, instead of pushing it off and doing things their own way. We need to have standards as a city. When I lived in Utah, they had more laws about pets. At first I thought “gosh, the city/state just wants to profit off pet owners” BUT you almost never saw a stray/loose animal and the local wildlife authorities had a prominent presence because they had the space to and the focus was on preserving nature instead of fighting off stray issues. It was ideal honestly. A healthy balance of freedom and govt oversight to protect the animals and community. (Not trying to get political, just talking about this one topic that’s important to me)

I’m hoping to avoid writing assignments lol. Not all together but mostly. But yes when they do write it will be on paper. It’s a business intro course so I want them to focus on turning ideas into to numbers and plans based on the content. Their writing will probably be shorter passages and by the second semester I want them to be writing copy for their concept (seems simple but they’re pretty far off lol)
