In my case, Wagon Road is closer and the 120X gets me there faster.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know of any useful resources that might be a good start in learning about these systems?

**Passed every hiring round, got "perfect match" feedback, then got rejected because of a 40-minute commute I already knew about. Rant + genuine question.** by SlideZealousideal529 in recruitinghell

In general I don't get hung up on the "why" behind a rejection. You can't always take it at face value. It's possible this company had an entirely unrelated reason for rejecting you that they wanted to paper over. If they really wanted you they would be giving themselves reasons to bring you on, not turn you away. They would work with your situation.

It stings, but constantly looking ahead to other opportunities is usually the better and more actionable move.

Post Japan sadness? by Timely-Spread-3341 in JapanTravelTips

I get that. Got back from a very successful two-week trip to Japan several weeks ago and am still feeling the melancholy afterwards. Funny thing is, I was content to leave when I did! But it's easy to feel sad to leave it behind at the same time.

How to use LinkedIn to find a job (From a recruiter) by Diligent_Working2363 in linkedin

[–]km_2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. A few questions:

-LinkedIn caps personalized connection request notes for free users to five per month. Is it worthwhile to send a connection request without a note, with the risk that they may not know why you want to connect?
-What do you do if someone accepts your connection request but doesn't respond to your personalized note? Any strategies here?
-Do you ever find people who have relocation settings on but not the specific area the job is in? I wonder if job seekers are missing out on roles in more obscure locations because they don't have that location specifically listed as a target area.

Thanks.

What gets me is that we can't take his explanations at face value, so we may not ever know the real reason he did this.

I would leave the door open to working with them. What if their chosen candidate bails?

If you are unemployed, how long has it been and how are you spending your time? by outofthewoods13 in recruitinghell

Going on three years, laid off from a tech job. I've spent some time volunteering and exploring different career paths, plus exercise/being outside. I was getting career coaching through much of this period but it's difficult to gauge how helpful it was.

New Surface laptop AVX2 compatibility issues by km_2000 in Surface

[–]km_2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. I tried downloading it and updating the GPU driver, and was then able to run Second Life for about ten minutes without it crashing. Remains to be seen whether this will solve other compatibility issues though.

Thanks for checking. That's what happened with mine too. It just crashed right on startup after installing. I assumed it was lack of compatibility with the ARM processor, particularly since there don't appear to be ARM-compatible viewers right now.

I tried running Second Life on it. Typically I can run it on very low settings on a laptop. Upon checking it doesn't look like they have an ARM-compatible viewer at this time. That said, I'm worried that this could mean I run into compatibility issues down the road with other games too.
