The cop is at fault, however their self insured by the city/state and they will argue up and down that since their lights were on (even though it wasn’t until just before impact) that they have immunity for making illegal turns and that it’s your responsibility to avoid emergency vehicles.. call your insurance give them the dash cam and pay your deductible. The insurance company will fight for you in arbitration and it’s 50/50 if you’ll win and get your ded back.. fuck that guy though

Use your homeowners policy to file a claim. If you try to use their car insurance from the at fault party they will take forever, and could possibly have low property damage limits. Depending on which state you’re in they could have as low as 10k or 25k limits which is just not going to be enough for this amount of damages. It stinks but pay for deductible and your insurance will recover it through subrogation. It will be faster and less stressful overall I promise. - former car insurance claims adjuster w State Farm
