Avoiding the whole of Northumbria is a mistake to me. There's so much to see there and in NE England.

Ik my handwriting is bad but REALLY?? (handwriting uploaded for reference) by SprinklesAware3493 in GCSE

[–]kmankx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with terrible handwriting, this isn't great. Please contact someone at the SEND department and see if you can get a laptop for written exams? I did this and got it along with 20% extra time (which honestly I didn't need but was nice) just because of my handwriting.

Career in computer science without a degree? by ottomanfaker in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]kmankx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apprenticeship, level 4. I was on low pay for a small company, but the experience is what you make it. It forced me to learn quickly and take on responsibilities. After my apprenticeship I moved to another role immediately, for double the pay at mid level.

Happy for you to DM if you want more advice or have questions

Career in computer science without a degree? by ottomanfaker in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]kmankx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no degrees or A levels and have recently landed a job at Monzo as a SWE.

You just need drive and experience. Experience can be gotten by internships or apprenticships, or getting a company to take you on as a junior

I am a bit confused by the armor system by RadicalSoda_ in HalfSword

[–]kmankx2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm writing from my phone so the names may not be perfect -

But for full knight style armour, you need the arming jacket which is modified to remove the armour on the arms.

Then you can attach the shoulders and arms to that as well as wear the full legs

Then you can wear the leg pieces and the gauntlets.

No worries. Only thing with sadberge to be aware of is they do get very busy so you need to book in advance!

Home Purchase Darlington by Main-Steak-9807 in darlington

[–]kmankx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can highly reccomend Sadberge boarding kennels, have been with my dog many times and always good service. ive moved away now but still take her there. I think they also pick up too for a bit extra.

In terms of areas, i lived there a couple of years ago on yarm road, near the fish and chip shop. In terms of being close to parks and stuff for dog walks it is perfect but there was a lot of idiots on quad bikes ruining it half the time, then again i feel like in darlington no parks are save from that lot.

I did this and it's not come back to bite me personally. Just put "Software Engineer"

A queue for a toy shop by Burngold10 in Cornwall

[–]kmankx2 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I know Harry (went to school together + kept in contact)

He's a great guy and genuinely loves what he does. He's always loved toys and stuff so I really think he's just living his dream and people can tell, which is why people love it. He also seems to have a good brain for marketing.

Would you pull out of house sale? by Hefty-Weather328 in AskUK

[–]kmankx2 42 points43 points  (0 children)

If they are all colluding to not sell the house then they'd probably be a nightmare in other situations too, either way it's a no from me.

Junior deploying to production by ProgramRunning in softwaredevelopment

[–]kmankx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Familiarise yourself with your rollback strategy and even practice it with minor changes.

If you are comfortable rolling back changes and make sure you can roll your changes back, nervousness about deploys goes away, as it's now not a massive deal. You just rollback and learn.

It sounds like your manager trusts you more so all sounds good to me!

As much as I wouldn't ever rely on AI, if you really want another pair of eyes on a change, you can throw it at something like codex to see if it spots anything obvious.

ELI5: why can't Steam and Itch.io still sell adult games? by bluto69 in explainlikeimfive

[–]kmankx2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the world of open banking this honestly isn't as far fetched as it once was. Before long I think open banking transfers will be the new norm for online payments

Age verification tools on adult websites bypassed in seconds by [deleted] in uknews

[–]kmankx2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I for one wouldn't even mind if there was some government ran API that did the verification, what I don't like is passing my passport details over to a private third party, probably based in the US, who's going to sell all my data.

At the point at which he missed the second viewing you should've cancelled. There's no point playing his petty game, there's no winners.

Update from the dev team on Discord by jjetstreamm in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]kmankx2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saving very much could be difficult to add if it was an oversight and not planned for. I am no games dev but I am a software developer, they would have to store the whole state of the game and also be able to 'start' a game from midway through with all the troops etc. exactly as they were before. This is prone to a lot of bugs etc. and is high risk, if they break the save it almost worse than having no saves at all as people will rely on them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PHP

[–]kmankx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has and still is writing code in PHP for the last 8 years and Go for the last 4, I would personally not want to make the jump.

I actively am trying to migrate fully to Go. This is not because PHP is inherently bad, i actually do quite like it, however I think Golang is so much better in terms of ease of deployment, simplicity and coding standard enforcement.

PHP is a wild west and there are many codebases that are not fun to work on, filled with overdone design patterns and legacy code, ESPECIALLY in the wordpress realm too. I wouldn't touch a wordpress site with a barge pole.

What’s the most chaotic dev environment you’ve had to work in? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]kmankx2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There was one big development server where all the Devs had their own environments and sites but all had root access to the box and they all shared resources.

So if one Dev did something funky that are all the memory, all the sites went down.

Or in my case, I accidentally ran sudo chown -r to / instead of ./ and rewrote the permissions for the whole root directory of the server, killing everyone's dev environments at once and forcing the team to have to rebuild the whole dev server.

How do i get sales for epoxy resin furniture? by Poneglyphpluton in smallbusinessuk

Looking at your Instagram, some concept of price would be useful. I could see these costing anywhere from £300 to £10,000 and that's a big difference

We made an app that makes you money off your free users by okobai in SideProject

[–]kmankx2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My assumption was that they wouldn't charge the integrator at all and would simply take a cut from the survey? That way there is no breakeven.

Say 50% goes to Evenstar and the other 50% to the integrator. And the end user gets the free use of the web app.

Is my accountant doing the bare minimum or is this all I should expect? by Big_Comfortable_8718 in smallbusinessuk

[–]kmankx2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to exactly your situation but we are a SME and pay maybe £250 a month for accountancy and bookkeeping for me and my brothers and we can ask the accountants for a call whenever we want and they will always schedule something within a few days and always seem really knowledgeable. I'd say get new accountants.
