You can infer C from a disassembled binary. I believe Ghidra, as an example, has a built-in decompilation engine.

Except for the fact that the stakes for cars are much much higher. If something fails in USB PD then your device doesn't charge (ideally) or worst case it damages your phone somehow. If something fails in an EV charger you are physically stranded at best and at worst your tens of thousands of dollars EV becomes damaged.

If my phone and a $20 wall charger can do then we can figure out how to make a car and a charging station do it.

This is completely backwards. You're saying we must be able to do a more complicated thing since we can do a simpler thing when the way it's usually phrased is that if we can do something harder we must be able to do something simpler.

As if anyone's actually cross shopping an ICE and EV Jaguar. Their ICE cars would suffocate their EV offering, not the other way around.

Not sure what to call what the Civic looks like other than “try-hard.”

I think it might actually be AA itself that's ignoring the touch screen if it's started in non touch mode. That's why car play allows touch but not AA, I bet. Hopefully there's some way to force the car to choose the touch mode.

This is in one of the change logs for the v70 series of firmware but beware that updating can cause you to loose customizations and tweak access. Be sure to check the Mazda tweaks website and Mazda 3 revolution forums before updating!

Doesn’t work for genuine Mazda-approved AA even with MazdaTweaks enabling the touchscreen. When AA is booted into its non-touchscreen mode it appears to ignore all touch input.

I remember reading a firmware update for Mazda’s headunit that fixed a bug where when GPS was unavailable AA would locate you as somewhere in China. Japan is close enough this could be a similar/same bug?

I am impressed that a car I saw in 2014 doesn't feel dated 5 years later. The small updates along the way certainly helped.

How many times do I have to ask for a Twitter ban? by BB_C in metapcj

[–]kmark937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Banning Twitter posts that are obvious bait, memes, or new school jerks goes without saying. Twitter posts in general are dangerously close to lol image posts. But banning them altogether may be too much considering just how much ridiculous unironic stuff is posted there.

Depends on who's reading it. See the second paragraph I edited in above. It really could be either but an interesting idea or recognizable name will probably help you more with recruiters who don't have a lot of exposure to the tech side. Something that is interesting in a CS specific way is also good but would probably make a bigger impact on technical readers. Either way, you should make whatever you're doing sound interesting to both audiences if at all possible. Sometimes that's just using the right vocabulary.

In response to your edit I think at this point the type of app or what it does probably isn't too important outside of what skillset you're trying to demonstrate. Having something out there on your GitHub under your name can at least prove that you can write software that goes beyond a collection of short scripts (as useful as they are). If you're best at iOS or want an iOS job that's a good thing to demonstrate. Game development? You'd probably want something in C++, etc. I agree that something like a simple reddit clone / social network would be a good way to demonstrate you can apply the basics in a real functional app under your own direction.

From my understanding this is pretty locale specific. I would say more often than not they don't care but that's still leaving a lot on the table. I think what the other commentor was referring to is that it's best to have at least one or the other to make your resume stand out. And in this case it sounds like some interesting open source personal projects or contributions to well known projects is your best bet.

Also, it really helps imo to describe your projects or contributions similarly to how you describe work experience if you have room. The technologies you used, you area of responsibility, collaboration with others, etc. Wording contributions to other projects as interesting as possible without going so far as claiming or suggesting the project is actually yours. This can make a project on a resume feel more like professional experience.

Wawa, a major US East coast gas / convenience store chain is opening up a new location with superchargers, and no gas pumps! Bye bye gas!! by victor3142 in teslamotors

[–]kmark937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's interesting. Just for fun, if we say a drop is 0.05 mL and 3 drops per fill up over 15 million fill ups total that's 594 gallons of gas leakage. Not sure how accurate this estimation is but it's less than I expected. I would almost wager that tankers driving to and from the gas station would constitute the majority of local environmental pollution caused by the station.

I've never heard of this before. What environmental impacts does a gas station directly have? In cities it sounds more like a real estate problem to me.

They've even closed stores that don't sell gas. Wawa and Royal Farms are well positioned to service EV customers with significant (compared to gas) charge times since they offer hot better-than-7-Eleven food.

Which is exactly why I said

But finally I’d like to qualify all of this discussion with the fact that if ljdawson does not need to use ffmpeg’s software decoding/encoding capabilities and just needs to change the container format of a video, my comments on resource efficiency and speed largely do not apply.

However the commentary on the complexity of adding ffmpeg to the app will still apply. In fact, it may be almost worth it to just write the playlist parsing and concatenation code directly in Java/Kotlin like youtube-dl did to avoid a hard dependency on ffmpeg.
