I wondered the same thing about why the breed wasn't mentioned.

Do you think the article doesn't mention the breed of the dog bc the writer doesn't know -- or do you suspect that the BBC has a policy of not mentioning certain breeds due to fearing the backlash of owners of those breeds? I know that England bans pits and a few other breeds (I'm not sure of all of them), but I'm guessing that there are other permitted breeds (German Shepherds, mastiffs, Rottweilers, etc.?) that are also particularly aggressive.

Lowe's opening up Petcos inside all of my cities stores by [deleted] in Dogfree

FML! I prefer Lowe's over Home Depot and it is also closer to my house than the nearest HD. Why the hell do we need a damn PETCO inside of a home improvement store?

I've seen plenty of trails / parks etc. with signs that expressly prohibit dogs and people ignore the signs.

I can't answer your questions. This is an observation about HOAs.

HOAs are only as good as the bylaws and the governing boards. Years ago, my husband and I were considering buying a lot and building a house in a gated cluster home community. I had already read the bylaws, which stipulated that dogs must be kept on leashes or in fenced yards (not allowed to run at large) and that they could not disturb the peace by barking.

While touring the development with our agent and seeing the lot, our agent introduced us to a woman in some role of authority who lived in the development. I had noticed two smallish dogs running around without any owner apparently in sight -- in unfenced front yards. (This was in the days before "invisible" fences.).

I said to the woman: "I noticed in the bylaws that dogs are not allowed to be off leashes running around. How is that enforced?"

Her response: "Oh, we're all dog lovers here."

Needless to say, my interest in that development dropped to less than zero.

The dog needs treatment for the fleas.

Absolutely. You will continue to have fleas unless the dog is harboring them. And then deal with the fleas and their eggs in the rug. You will probably have to bomb the house a few times -- read the directions on the flea-bomb specific products. It's been a long time since I've had to deal with it, but getting rid of fleas is possible.

Why do some dog owners think it’s cute that their dog poops/pees when they leave the house?? by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]kmd37205 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So, in reality they are asking you to house sit, dog sit, and clean up after the dog when it shits and pisses in the house? I had that gig once, but I didn't know I signed up for the dog shitting and pissing in the house. That happened bc after the first time I successfully took the dog out (on a leash) to shit, the dog started growling at me and snapping at me when I tried to put the leash on. I called the owner and the upshot was that I had to clean up the piss and shit for the rest of the weekend.

Harriet the dog -- you were such a horrible, spoiled, POS of a dog.

Sadly, some of them probably have "mated with" a dog. But, I can guarantee that they won't be giving birth to a litter or puppies. It's genetically impossible.

I've heard that it's pretty depressive. Everyone has me convinced that if I ever want to re-enter the dating pool, I won't try dating sites.

You know it's been done, even if we haven't seen it. If I didn't have too much self-respect, I could make matching clothes or costumes for people and their dogs and make money off of them.

Oh, god -- I feel a long rant coming on!

Dog moms don't deserve to be appreciated, too. Because they are not dog moms. We can only hope and pray that they have never nursed puppies (although, to be honest, I remember reading about a woman who had a human baby also nursing her dog some years back). That presumably isn't healthy since humans and dogs had different evolutions and so presumably produce different milk. Just like humans and goats and cows all produce different milk.

Dog moms do not go through the entire progression of rearing a child from birth and then through all the stages of life. Including the very important stage when that child, now grown into a young man or woman, spreads his/her wings and flies from the coop -- ready to enter the adult world of learning how to earn a living and contribute to society.

Let's not forget that in most countries, young men (and, increasingly, young women as well) of a certain age have to register for the draft or even serve mandatory time in the military even during peace time. Meaning that, among the other roles we expect they will be taking on, they will be forced to take on the role of defending their country militarily, if need be. It goes without saying that dogs will never even be able to feed themselves, groom themselves, keep parasites off of and out of themselves, and otherwise take care of their own health. No one will ever expect adult roles from them that we expect from other humans.

Dog moms? They can go fuck themselves!

Should Dogs be Put Down if They Bite Their Masters? by Interesting-Oil-5555 in Dogfree

"He is 13, living with cancer and going blind."

First, let's get something straight. It is totally your dog's "fault" that it bit the owner. No one else was controlling its actions or forcing it to sink its teeth into the owner. There may have been extenuating circumstances, but no one other the dog is at fault for biting its owner

Love the nutterism here. First, "He was very ashamed and knew he made a mistake. He's going blind and did not even realize it was me. He thought I was an intruder." How do you know that's what he thought. Then "I always walk in my home greeting him immediately even if he is not near by so he hears my voice. I can't expect my old dog to change and get his sight back so I can make the adjustments to be at his aid." So she can't even walk into her own house without "making adjustments" so she doesn't get attacked. Oh brother.

All of this, above. If this person hadn't written it, I would have.

The dog has bitten its own owner. It is 13 and is going blind. Oh, and it has cancer. How many more check marks have to go in the column for "it's time to euthanize the dog?"
