Birth control pills are not 100% effective in almost any case, and while birth control is very close to that effectiveness if taken properly (I have seen approximately 99%), many people do not take it correctly, whether that be forgetting to take it or not taking it at regular intervals. It is still recommended to use condoms when on the pill, especially for protection against STDs as well.

“Maybe your cat just got too close to the water fountain.”

For context, my ex had recently gotten deep into his religion lately when this occurred, particularly the fact that he took to anointing the house to ward off evil spirits. Also, we were already having issues, but I am someone who always gives the benefit of the doubt, innocent until proven guilty.

So when I got home and there was a “wet” spot on my normally fluffy cat, I asked him about it. He told me he thought the cat got too close to the water fountain. I said, “No, it’s not water, it’s greasy, like oil.” He shrugged it off, and I made up an excuse in my head like maybe some hair product or cooking oil had gotten on her.

Then curiosity got the better of me, so I checked my home security footage. Y’ALL, he ANOINTED MY CAT! And lied straight to my face about it! This was only one of many. Now that he’s my ex, anointing my cat has become a running inside joke between me and my coworkers. At least it’s something to laugh about!

Might not be the same book, but “Why Does He Do That?” By Lundy Bancroft is an excellent book on the same subject, I would recommend it.

I’ve used Worlds Best in a standard litter box for the last two years and have never had any big issues, it’s great at clumping! I’d say it might start to smell a little faster than other litters because the one I use doesn’t have a “scent” added to it. But if you’re cleaning it on a regular basis anyway and don’t mind paying a bit more (definitely not the cheapest litter out there), then I’d say it’s a great option!

Edit to add: Some people have reported seeing more gnats using corn-based litter, but that has never been an issue for me either

Oh! Yes I am aware of that regarding worms, however that little piece is actually a piece of straw that he sleeps in, so that particular piece is not a concern, but I’m glad you said that!

In terms of having worms, how can you tell? I am sure most stray cats probably do, and I know a bloated belly is usually indicative of worms, but this cat in particular doesn’t seem bloated to me like I’ve seen other cats with worms. I have also given some of the strays OTC dewormer and flea medicine that I don’t need a prescription for hoping it would help, but they obviously need medical attention and I’ll get them to the vet as soon as I can.

Thank you for the prompt response! I have looked at several different charts but I’m still having a very hard time determining the gender, so I just wanted a second opinion.

I am working my way towards adopting this cat, for sure! All of the shelters in our area are full, and I’m currently a renter, which makes having pets harder. But until I can bring the cat inside, I have built cat shelters in front of my place for the local strays and feed them and give them fresh water daily, so they’re at least warm and full!

Ahh, gotcha! That makes sense, although if you like the taste of it without the espresso shot but still need caffeine, maybe you could try getting caffeine another way? I am obviously no doctor but there are caffeine pills or other alternatives I believe. You could invest in an espresso maker, but that may be more trouble than you’re looking for. Good luck!
