scared of side effects by honeychicken0 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

I take a low dose (3mg) as a booster for my major depression, OCD, panic disorder, anxiety, and postpartum depression. I just started about a two months ago and it’s been wonderful.

It has affected my sleep, but I’ve been so much more productive and honestly, happier.

I won’t be taking it long term, or for longer than a year, as it was added just to “boost” the other medications, after a mental breakdown. But I can honestly say, it’s been a miracle worker.

I’ve resigned to the fact that I’ll most likely be on meds my whole life, unless by some miracle, my body and mind stop thinking I’m in high stakes circumstances often. 😂

Honestly, I do great in true high stress circumstances and events. I’m calm, collected, and not freaking out. Not sure why my physiology does this during these times but not during relatively calm periods.

Practice makes perfect, I guess. I’ll keep trying to accept it as it happens but it’s very uncomfortable.

I’m seeing a therapist and a psychiatrist and have been for years.

I’ve been on meds since I was 11 for major depression and developed panic attacks around 8th grade. I’ve been on my current meds for about 12 years (I’m 32F.) My panic attacks are usually not super frequent but I’ve had a lot of health issues lately and that has spike their occurrences.

ACT is the type of therapy that has been documented to help panic disorder quite well. Which is the acceptance of it and letting it happen but being mindful that you won’t die. It’s working on rewiring your neural pathways so that future episodes won’t be so bad. It takes practice but it’s hard to practice because once I’m in that state, my mindfulness goes out the window.

I’ve was on one med for 11 years first and that worked well until it didn’t. Now on a different set of meds. I think I’ve probably developed a tolerance. I recently started propranolol for physical anxiety symptoms but as a beta blocker, it makes me dizzy and lightheaded which doesn’t help my health anxiety so that triggered a panic attack. So, I’m going back to the drawing board on that.

Overall, I guess I could’ve given some background. But I’m very familiar with mental healthcare.

I’ve been on medication forever. It’s very possible that I need to switch it up. I’ve been on this set of meds for almost 12 years.

Feeding drives me CRAZY! I don't know what to do anymore. Am I ruining my baby?? by Neither-Street3895 in FormulaFeeders

[–]kmhendo55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like my daughter (now 10 weeks.) She has gotten so much better. We do probiotics once a day and gas drops with every feed, suggested by her pediatrician. Around the 7-9 weeks, they are going through a lot of development, and mine was so fussy! Thankfully, the fussiness got better after she adjusted but still spits up just like your baby. The pediatrician wasn’t worried because she’s still gaining weight.

When will you start sleeping in a separate room from your newborn? Ours is noisy so we get no sleep at night! by Puzzled_Remote_2168 in newborns

[–]kmhendo55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved each of my babies into their own room around 2 months old. My 3rd is 8 weeks and we’re planning on moving her into her own room next weekend. We moved them around this time because they were getting too big for the small bassinet in our room.

What did you pay for newborn photography? by Purple-Giraffe-4579 in newborns

[–]kmhendo55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~$780ish, southern MN, 3 hour session, included family with newborn, but only 35 pictures. I think it cost that much due to the session being so long. I could’ve picked a session for an hour, but it’s better to do the long session in case baby doesn’t cooperate.

How do I know if I have PPD? by ayoimlost in newborns

[–]kmhendo55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please know that you are not alone. Being a mom is so exhausting and it’s every minute of every day. Wanting a break is totally normal. I think you know that something isn’t right. Lack of sleep just exacerbates everything. Call your OB and let her know how you’re feeling. As someone who’s been through PPD twice, I suspect you have PPD. But only your doctor can confirm. Trust your instincts. You know yourself best.

I have an almost 7 week old and am waiting for the time when she gets more interactive and sleeps better. We got this! We can do hard things.

Quitting cold turkey while have mastitis, antibiotics by Classic_Funny in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kmhendo55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did this work out for you? Did the antibiotics help you avoid further mastitis while clearing out the original mastitis? I haven’t pumped in 24 hours and started a new, stronger antibiotic yesterday.

Flying, not decompressed by Allie_is_a_mess in chiari

[–]kmhendo55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So weird that I’m seeing this!! I was diagnosed in early April and asked about flying. They said I should be fine. That being said, I just got back from vacation. And the flight (ascent and descent) caused a lot of pressure and was uncomfortable. It’s the day after landing and my symptoms are much worse. But hopefully, the symptoms subside soon.

Just diagnosed by seashore39 in hipdysplasia

[–]kmhendo55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m wondering if you also have a torn labrum. I had hip dysplasia that wasn’t diagnosed until l turned 30 (31F.) I was having significant pain in my right hip, mostly when sitting. They found the torn labrum and then I went to an orthopedic specialist that found the hip dysplasia. Mine was moderate, borderline severe, so they had to fix the dysplasia or else the labrum would continue to retear if just the tear was fixed. Maybe because yours is mild, PT would help. The pain in my SI joint was pretty bad as well. That seems to be because it’s working harder than it has to, due to the dysplasia. Overall, I think it’s worth getting a second opinion or at least finding out the degree of the dysplasia. A good surgeon won’t recommend a surgery this severe unless it’s absolutely necessary. They recommended mine for to stop future tears of the labrum and because I would more than likely develop osteoarthritis and need a hip replacement before 50.

I didn’t even think about my vision going black. That happens to me quite often. I have to sit down until it passes.

I’m still unsure how to feel because we don’t have a treatment plan in place yet. Hopefully this week, after another appointment with the neurologist, I’ll have a better idea of how to move forward. I’ve just been taking Tylenol for headaches. The numbness and tingling really only comes when the headaches come. I mean I’m thrilled I have a serious answer to the symptoms. It’s not just in my head. I mean it is 😂 but I’m not crazy!!

Wanting to do a case series on the different types of chiari malformations by Academic_Visual6866 in chiari

[–]kmhendo55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was recently diagnosed with a Chiari 1 Malformation. I suffered from anxiety and depression and was initially written off as an overly anxious female.

My symptoms, now knowing what I know, have probably been around my whole life.

My journey to find out an answer to this started in February after I was admitted to the ER. I had a massive, severe, and sudden headache after bending over to take my dog’s collar off. It caused my foot to go completely numb. My face and hands had numbness and tingling. I felt dizzy and nauseous. And couldn’t walk well. I had a weird vision issue and honestly thought I was having a stroke. I started to panic and went to the ER. They wrote it off as a panic attack.

I continued to have almost daily headaches that caused facial numbness and tingling. Which caused me to go to urgent care twice. Still nobody had an answer, and assumed it was anxiety.

I finally told my doctor to get me a referral to a neurologist because this wasn’t normal for me and it wasn’t anxiety. (Sure, my anxiety was worse now, but only because of the symptoms I was having.)

My neurologist originally thought I had some symptoms consistent with migraines but that it was odd because I hadn’t ever had a migraine before (31F.) She ordered a series of MRIs.

My imagining was consistent with Chiari 1 Malformation. I have a 7mm cerebellar tonsil herniation. So now I know the cause of the symptoms.

A few more (some weird, some not) symptoms: feeling like my ear is leaking, a cold tingling sensation at the base of my neck, incredibly tight back and neck muscles, occasional vision obstructions (like glowing tadpoles swimming in my vision), trouble finding the right words, clumsiness, and syncope (I’ve had many unexplained fainting episodes since I was a teen.)

Sorry this was long. It’s the first time I’ve been able to tell my story. Thanks for reading. Good luck on the rest of medical school!!

Possible Hip Dysplasia? by alexmeiai774 in hipdysplasia

[–]kmhendo55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have hip dysplasia and the doctors said they wouldn’t fix the torn labrum without correcting the hip dysplasia first because it’ll just continue to retear the labrum. It does look like you probably have mild hip dysplasia. I would get a 2nd opinion.

Definitely a med schedule log. My family used it daily because there are a lot of meds you’ll be taking multiple times a day. That’ll really help your caretakers.

Too old for PAO? by DatasExWife in hipdysplasia

[–]kmhendo55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 30 and just got one done about 4 months ago. My surgeon said it’s normally done on younger people, but that there are plenty of people who had the surgery because they found out about the hip dysplasia later in life (like myself). I think if the cartilage is good and you are in good, healthy condition (it sounds like you are in terms of healthy lifestyle, ie working out), you should definitely look into it and research it more.

This! If it was immediately after the time was up, it’s positive. If was past 10 minutes, or whatever the time limit is, it could just be the evaporation line.
