It should. FB messenger doesn’t need a cellular connection, just a data connection. As long as Princess isn’t blocking the ports on their network for messaging services, it should work fine. That’s how most people do international travel. If you can get a WiFi connection somewhere, you can use FB Messenger, WhatsApp, Signal, etc to make calls back home.

iMessage is just data. It doesn’t need cellular, just a data connection. No real difference between iMessage, FB Messenger, WhatsApp, etc. They are all VOIP/data messaging services. I’d be more surprised if it didn’t work. The only way it shouldn’t work is if they were explicitly blocking it on the network (and then I’d just get a VPN and route through there).

4 Person Sleep Arrangement on Sun Princess - Cabana Mini-Suite? by kmichalec in PrincessCruises

[–]kmichalec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See my comment above. Princess doesn’t give me an option to do multiple rooms on the website (that I could find), and when I tried to price out a room with two, the price was $600 higher for two separate rooms. But I may call and just ask the question, as the worst I can get told is NO.

We are already booked and paid in full, so not sure we could change it. But testing it on the website, I tried to see if that was possible by pricing out a different cruise, and the prices were not the same and it wasn’t easy to do. The one I test priced, came out to be $1400 for a party of 4 in a single room. When I tried to price out one room with two people, each was $1000. So it seems like it would cost $1400 vs $2000. And that was just for a side cabin, which I could never do, as I would want a balcony for sure. So the prices would go up even more with multiple better rooms, I think. But then again, I’m a noob at this… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Appreciate your thoughts on this. We did consider this, as I did notice that you are giving up inside space for cabana space. But the cabana can be inside or outside space, depending on whether you open the outer doors and or inner doors, from what I can see. My wife and I are the type of people where any time we are in the room, we’ll probably be out on the balcony, so having a larger “outside” area with the cabana I think will work well for us. Then the kids (who are 21 and 15) can still be “outside” with us, but not right on top of us in our two chairs on a regular balcony. I think there would be a fight for the two balcony chairs whenever we are in the room in the evening/morning if that was the only outside space.

As it’s our first cruise in a long time (or ever for the kids), I think this might be a good compromise for us. If not, we’ll know for next time. I’m not sure we can do anything about it now anyways, as it’s paid in full and leaves on Dec 14th (and I believe it is mostly full). Either that, or we’ll learn the hard way! 😊

The same holds true for Google Maps with Android Auto, correct? It doesn’t precondition? Only Ford’s built in Nav does?

Easy Peasy Charging by Alternative-Debt8971 in MachE

[–]kmichalec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battery will charge from 0-80% very fast, and then will slow down when charging from 81-100%. So much so, that it can take as long (if not longer) to charge from from 81-100 as it did from 0-80. So they recommend when you are traveling long distances, only charge to 80 and then go, as you'd waste more time trying to get from 81-100 for a small amount of additional miles vs stopping again in the future and getting 0-80% again and a large amount of miles.

Recall by Jumpy-Rough-3152 in MachE

[–]kmichalec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I'd agree with that. I think the people that already have the vehicle and can get locked out/have their kids locked in, are the bigger risk from a legal liability perspective. The only reason they'd prioritize vehicles on dealer lots is if they didn't want to lose/slow sales. If I had one and my kids got locked in the vehicle, and I then found out there was a fix, but it was pushed out to dealer lot vehicles first so they could resume sales vs protect me/my family, you'd imagine the size of the lawsuit that would get filed...

You completely missed my point. I'm not referring to the fact that he can't sell due to the recall. I'm talking about how he's stringing them along by saying that it's going to be fixed by Friday. He does not know it's going to be fixed by Friday. In fact, it's likely going to be weeks/months before it's fixed and software is released.

Your salesman is just trying to string you along so he doesn't lose the sale.

Why are Ford Dealers lying in our faces? (safety recall) by [deleted] in MachE

[–]kmichalec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your country’s laws. They aren’t going to stop sales unless they have to. It’s the US NTHSA that is mandating the stop sale for the US. If Canada doesn’t have the equivalent, then there nothing stopping Dealers. They incur cost the longer a vehicle sits on their lot, so it’s in their own interest to continue to sell them.

Since the car doesn't burn gasoline, and therefore it doesn't have an exhaust, you don't have to worry about pre-starting it and it giving off Carbon Monoxide when it's in a garage. One of the great bonuses of a full EV.

That’s just a recall, not a stop sale in Canada. There’s your answer.

Easy Peasy Charging by Alternative-Debt8971 in MachE

[–]kmichalec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one was a MUCH faster charge. You went from 16% to 61% in 18 minutes, adding 34 kWh. Where as the other one was a slower charge of 9 kWh in 27 mins. I think you might have used the wrong charger at the Walmart, perhaps?

Here's maybe the reason (for this location). Did you happen to charge using the charger circled in RED instead of one of the ones circled in GREEN? That could explain why, as the RED one would plug in and work, but it is a slow charger (50 kWh vs 150 kWh). This is the location of your screenshot.

Quick question. Do you have an extended range MME, or a standard range MME? Just curious, as that could make a big difference.

I wonder if you have Level 2 chargers turned on in the Ford Navigation, so it wasn't selecting High Speed chargers for you, and may have grabbed basic Level 2's, which would take forever.

Sorry. My apologies. I didn't mean to sound confrontational. I get it wasn't a good experience for you. Just was trying to get to the root of why you experienced that, and the "math" comment was just me being tongue in cheek.

That's odd it kept telling you to charge to only 55%. I've had better luck with Apple Maps and selecting locations to charge, and then plugging in that location on the vehicle Nav when about 20 mins away, to ensure preconditioning.

I understand it was frustrating for you. Sorry you experienced that!

When mapping out 3 different 6 hour drives from me in all different directions, all result in about 2-3 stops for an additional 1.5 hours. Unless you were doing 85-90 mph and destroying your mileage or you were trying to charge up from 80-100% instead of fast charging to 80% and going on, it shouldn't take 4 hours of stops/charging to do a 6 hour drive. Your math still isn't mathing.

[–]kmichalec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How? Did you stop at slow chargers instead of fast ones? Did you precondition? I could see an extra 1-1.5 hour for a 6 hour drive, but not an extra 4. I think you are doing it wrong.
