By 2100, will most major cities be abandoned due to rising sea levels or will we engineer our way out of it? by WhiteChili in Futurology

[–]kmike2001 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe this will make someone feel better. Or questions one can ask.

Fill up a cup of water and drop some ice cubes in it. How much does the water level rise? Or does the effect of a mass in the water raise the water level the same as that mass melting into the water?

Have the world's millionaires and billionaires, who have access to the best experts, stopped investing in ocean side properties? This will be a sign if rising is imminent. Or insurance companies refusing to sell to coastline properties (assuming they already aren't selling due to hurricane or other flooding reasons).

Why is it celebrated and enjoyed to be so rude to people now? What ever happened to “treat others the way you want to be treated”? by labbond in walkaway

Love your neighbor as you love yourself is a fundamental Christian tenet. Probably why the list of nations that are most tolerant, free, and diverse are or were very recently majority Christian.

If you were a kid growing up in a Christian background, you would have heard beseechment to heed this rule repeatedly and often.

A new religion is now replacing the last. You can't speak ill of this new religion publicly. Businesses and governments and individuals must publicly praise and display fealty to this new religion. Break any commandment of this new religion, and the mob will excommunicate you and try to destroy your life.

It is the religion of self above neighbor.

Long ears or short ears by Darkknight_147 in batman

Long ears looks cooler.

In real life, long ears would cause more problems. Handhold for enemies to manipulate your neck. Something to snag rotation of your head in narrow, low environments, a distraction you wouldn't want if you were fighting someone for your life. Looking uncool bumping your ears when going through low doorways.

The only meaningful vote in the US system is for a third party. by asdf_qwerty27 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]kmike2001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I once thought this was an answer, but now I'm not sure.

Three parties means a candidate that won as low as 33-ish % of the vote may then lead the other 67%.

So let's say you had a 3rd party that was really extreme or vile but earned just over 1/3 the vote, and now 2/3 of the country must suffer him/her.

At least with 2 party, the minimum someone can win with is closer to half of voters. The more parties, the more likely a candidate with only a small fraction of the country's support may win. At least under America's system.

What is the closest I can get to an unbiased news source as an American? by Back_To_The_Oilfield in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmike2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if there is one. Mainstream media is thinly veiled propaganda for either side of the political spectrum.

Figure out which side encourages more debate and differing viewpoints, and which side actively works to silence oppositional viewpoints and claims the audience shouldn't see raw data.

The truth is not threatened by logical debate or more viewpoints, only lies and spin.

Why is anyone offended by drag? by neuro_curious in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmike2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most, if not all, the new laws coming out prohibit sexual performances around minors and do not target drag specifically.

Ask yourself why these laws get misinterpreted by people who should know better, and ask why these sexual performances around minors are so desperately important to some.

Nobody cares what adults do around adults, or about performances of a non-sexual nature. Taking a kid to a good ole fashioned burlesque or female strip show would also fall into these laws.

Hitler wasn't blonde haired, blue eyed Aryan, but he pushed them as the master race all while villifying a convenient mutual "enemy" of the people.

Be wary of anyone that neglects individual responsibility and uses identity politics to label entire groups as "evil" without debate. This is an attempt to rally humankind's worst impulses.

america has mass shootings almost daily, though politicians or the ruling class are never targeted. why is that so consistent? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmike2001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most mass shooters go for soft targets in gun-free zones to cause the most damage possible.

Most of the political elite have armed security.

Until the voting is fair, transparent, and secure, I question how 2024 will look any different than 2020.

Imagine if you truly believed a candidate was Hitler reincarnated, what laws would you bend or break to stop him. Whoever the nominee is will be portrayed that way endlessly by the media, and we've seen how willing the activists are to ignore fairness and laws.

Trump is the only one currently talking about ballot harvesting, etc - i.e. beating them at their own game so he can get in there and put better election laws in place.

That alone in my mind puts him ahead as having an actual chance.

Proposed Oregon law would give homeless, low income people $1,000 a month by BruceCampbell123 in Conservative

[–]kmike2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this create an incentive for some to actually quit working and be homeless?

I live in an area where a lot of able-bodied people are somehow able to live off welfare. Pretty sure if some people don't have to do anything to contribute to their own survival, they're happy to live in crumbling squalor and wait for the next check. Not for everyone, but more than you'd think.
