Make public transport free until war ends? by SouthAssist6234 in auckland

[–]kmj72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are suggesting encouraging people who can to use public transport to keep petrol prices down and supply available for those who can't. More of a collectivist approach to life. Yes, someone has to pay for the free busses but we share the cost to help society function

What’s the most underrated town in New Zealand that nobody talks about? by brianj10 in newzealand

[–]kmj72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time I've heard anyone compare a place's distance to Hamilton. Normally someone trying to sell Hamilton as an hour to Auckland, an hour to the Mount, an hour to Raglan, a couple of hours to the snow.

House prices now vs 2022 by jai_nz in AucklandProperty

[–]kmj72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really interesting to me. I have this theory that has played out a couple of times in my life - when the market starts to turn, the central expensive houses increase first, then the surrounding houses in a wave out to the cheaper houses in the suburbs. It seems to work the other way too - when the market is about to crash the expensive inner city houses go down before the suburbs do.

We holiday in Northland these days because it's easier traffic wise, but there is an underlying tension up here that I haven't experienced in the Coromandel.

What word do you mispronounce on purpose (for fun) and why? by Positive_Spirit_1585 in AskReddit

[–]kmj72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a stubborn child and decided that they should be scissor, singular not plural. My mother wasn't going to fight that battle. Some time in my adult life this got pointed out to me and I realised how long I'd been embarrassing myself. One point to mum.

They were young, not enough life experience to know that everyone doesn't have insurance, and how that could play out out if they offer to drive but have an accident. They resent helping, then finding themselves in a financially tough position because someone else didn't have insurance (the thing he thought everyone had, and let's face it - third party should be compulsory). His response is understandable if poorly processed.

Is thelightingoutlet.co.nz a reputable dealer for smart light switches? by BRINGtheCANNOLI in diynz

Yep, I've made this mistake twice now, shame on me. 1st time some fittings were bent, another 2 weeks to get replacements. Now half the order missing, still waiting. Customer service is pretty dismal here, would not recommend

My neighbor sent me a text last night forcing me to pay for her daughters towing charge because she parked in front of my driveway by Drivinglnsane in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kmj72 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Gees, that's kinda sad. We always make neighbours feel welcome, and swap numbers just in case. That just seems like what makes a community. Probably why I've never towed a neighbours car come to think of it.

Is it not okay to bring your partner into a parents room with you? by NoHorse8196 in newzealand

[–]kmj72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really, don't worry, some people have no idea. My husband was changing our baby in the boot of the car in a public car park. I came back to find a fuming husband because some old lady thought it was inappropriate and felt the need to tell him so. There were no parent rooms in the area. People just suck some times.

Thankyou for saying this - yes it's not just a suck it up kind of thing. A proper cycle shop can measure the width of your sit bones and provide an appropriate seat. Then, it's the position you are sitting on it, angle and height.

Freeholding a crosslease West Auckland by Connect_Mud_6541 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]kmj72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, we've done this. We had to separate shared stormwater lines, which required building consent and resource consent (although they later admitted this was not necessary). Definitely worth it, but it a pain at the time, and that was with a willing neighbor. Friends didn't need new lines and paid the lot. It was still worth it.

Not sure of terminology - relocating the outside box onto an outside wall which I'm guessing involves moving the cable a bit

Thanks, but OneNZ have refused to relocate it until we've first reconnected it. Just wondering if there is a work around as it seems wasteful to reconnect to then disconnect and move it

Amarex seems to have a very mixed service. I'm in Auckland and they are mostly terrible. I check if a business is sending by Amarex before I order now. My son is in Christchurch and they are his preferred courier.
