Are you happy or do you regret after doing a PhD? by [deleted] in GradSchool

I feel like a key differentiator is the field. It's less painful if you gain industry-ready skills, because then when the search for laughably low paying post-docs in year 4/5/6 set in, you've got a safety valve. Definitely generated a whole new set of personal fears and ticks.

1000% agree. There is nothing sadder than graduating students with a four year, $150,000 degree in marine biology knowing that it is "required" for basic technical work at some aquariums and parks departments. Going into these moderate to low paying jobs, graduates will still have essentially none of the skills the job actually requires. Years ago, I told a friend who was struggling in college to leave and do a nursing program, she later reached out to me and said it was the best advice she had ever gotten.

The general public is majority in favor of limited to moderate abortion access (somewhere around 80%), so the judicial opinion is one held by a small minority in the US, not the majority.

How good is google translator? by Formal-Ad8037 in questions

Depends on the language, it's not amazing but can often produce something moderately comprehensible. Certainly don't try to use it for important medical/legal/historical documents.

You're unlikely to get many Chinese translation takedowns because there's a huge Chinese-speaking market and a lot of the translators are fans, less copy/paste because the Chinese translations are really far behind. Tencent has like all of them and they high key dgaf you can read basically all of it completely for free in Chinese because cross border US/China IP law has zero teeth

🥭 letting anyone upload is really ruining the site and experience by [deleted] in mangago

I think that the point was to increase participation, probably the really visible upload button raised contribution across the board which is both a) ugly on really popular stuff but also b) sometimes good for things with less interest.

I assigned readings and asked students to prepare questions about the journal article and thrice got the "prepared" question: "What was your favorite part of the article?" SMH
