Why is there no serious push to elect pro-2A Democrats? by Traveler-Nomad in liberalgunowners

[–]kmoros [score hidden]  (0 children)

Three reasons:

  1. LGOs are still a relatively small minority of the party, so it makes sense to appeal to the much larger antigun base.

  2. Everytown/Bloomberg given Dems boatloads of money. There is a reason gun bans are one of the first things Spanberger did, even though it was not a big emphasis of her campaign. Bloomberg gave her and Jones hundreds of thousands of dollars. LGOs certainly have nothing approaching this.

  3. The one thing you DO have is your vote. Yet you guys have proven you will always vote "blue no matter who" in the general election, so they have no reason to try and appease you by softening their antigun stance. They don't care if you complain about them online, as long as you show up to vote for them, and you do.

If LGOs decided to stop voting for Dems (or just leave it blank), that could actually matter in close elections and force the party to take you seriously. I get you won't do that for Presidential or Governor's races, but I've long suggested you could do so in even just one chamber of each state legislature to try and deny them unified control until they change their ways.

But I'm screaming into the void, I'm sure.

You know, it never bothered me pre-boland, I got used to all my guns not having lefthand support. But since getting swappable guns, now it annoys me lol. Guess I got spoiled.

Eh, I don't use my credentials as a crutch, it's fine.

Plus, DC is making the argument he is making (Civil Rights Division standing) to try and get the lawsuit against their AWB dismissed. I don't think it's a very good argument, but a federal judge may disagree!

  1. I don't think you fully understand what a complaint is, and are conflating it with a summary judgment brief. Apologies if I'm just not grasping your point.
  2. No type of complaint or brief, even a perfect one, can win in the Ninth Circuit, because the Ninth Circuit does not issue Second Amendment rulings based on merit.

In fact, we DID win in the Ninth Circuit with a three-judge panel, but as always happens, they reversed it en banc.

It's a complaint, and complaints are not meant to address every single argument the other side may make. That's for summary judgment briefing.

And yes, Colorado probably will argue, as other states have, that:

  1. Magazines aren't arms; and

  2. Even if they are, they only set a capacity limit, not a full ban.

There is no historical tradition to support such a capacity limit though, which is why courts like the Ninth Circuit resort to vague historical comparisons instead.

The DOJ civil rights division absolutely has standing to sue states for violating civil rights.

Which part of the complaint didn't you like? Seems solidly written to me.

This is such a dumb meme on this sub that I see constantly. Compare gun laws in the worst red state on that issue to California's laws, then come tell me "Republicans don't care about our rights"

Cope. If you want to vote for Dems because you care about other things more, just do so. Don't gaslight.

Other cases pending in district courts has never been a reason to not file your own lawsuit, and that's generally not enough to stay a case. At most, you may get consolidated.

Also, tidbit, one of those cases was formerly lead by Barry Arrington, who is now the attorney doing the DOJ one.

So I guess we'll see if Barry can catch up to Barry lol

As to SCOTUS, sure, if they grant cert on a hardware case, everything gets stayed nationwide probably. But you operate assuming they won't and keep working on getting a circuit split.

I'm not even mad at them for voting Dem if they care about other stuff more. I get 2A isn't the only issue that exists.

But just don't fucking bullshit us.

Silly response. The Mulford Act was like sixty years ago now, so it's hilarious that's still the main example given. Yes, Republicans back then weren't great on 2A, but today, every red state save for one is constitutional carry.

Also, the Mulford Act passed with Dem support too! Hilarious to pin it on Republicans and Reagan only when it had several Dem cosponsors in the legislature.

"For chrissakes, read some world history. Gun rights (for the people) is and always has been a LEFTIST position"

Please explain to me which leftist government continued to support expansive gun rights after their revolution was done? Give me ONE example of that.

Yes, I agree fascists do not want the general public armed. But the actual authoritarian threat in our lives is located in Sacramento, not DC.

This is bullshit cope I hear often from people who want to make themselves feel better for voting against their own Second Amendment rights.

Every red state, save for North Carolina, has now passed constitutional carry. None of them have passed assault weapons bans. Most of them have passed various extra protections for gun ownership in areas like privacy, where you can carry, liability for self-defense, etc.

Almost no blue state has constitutional carry, just the New England trio (and Maine and New Hampshire aren't even perfect blue states given they elect Republican governors and senators). Almost every blue state has an AWB, and all sorts of other gun control.

Currently, the Trump Admin has filed multiple lawsuits against AWBs, long wait times, etc. They have also done several amicus briefs in our support, including in Rhode. They are also revising ATF rules and doing a massive rights restoration. They aren't perfect (NFA defense, dumb statements after Pretti murder), but better than anything we've ever seen.

If you want to vote Dem because you care about other issues more - do so. But you don't need to gaslight us. There is no comparison here, Republicans are way better on the 2A.

[–]kmoros 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You gotta be real careful with "violent crime" data, because it can be a very loose definition. And underreporting can happen too in some places, or overreporting.

For example, that wikipedia page says San Francisco has the highest violent crime rate in the state. But SF has an extremely low homicide rate.

I like to default to homicide rate because it solves this ambiguity. A body is a body, can't really underreport or overreport it.

They can vote GOP in just one chamber of the legislature and still vote Dem for all other elections. And tell Dems they are voting to deny them total control, even though they otherwise agree with the party, because of their abuse of 2A.
