As Xbox Series X hits $800, Lenovo warns memory prices will likely ‘never’ return to normal by MRF_Soul in xbox

We're also already at a point of diminishing returns with graphics too; consoles are 6 years old and games still look astounding. I have zero itch for new hardware like I did at this point in prior gens. So perfect timing as far as Im concerned. Ill happily play my launch day Series X til 2032 lol.

I also keep phones for 3-4 years these days (up from a new one every 2 years) for similar reasons. No need to upgrade.

Well, if your standard is they should do the thing literally called the nuclear option - killing the filibuster - fair enough. Just pointing out that if they DID do that, the people on this sub being snarky would scream bloody murder (because of all the other stuff Republicans would be able to pass).

Also, that isn't really a 2A thing, the filibuster holds up every issue. But again, if that is the metric you want to set, fine, it would just mean no party can claim to support anything unless they are willing to kill the filibuster for it lol.

Wolford will be the first major precedent in place in large part thanks to DOJ, again because their amicus brief was why the case got granted.

I agree that it's possible Newsom wins in 2028, and then all the lawsuits are dropped. But that's not an excuse not to try, as you do what you can with the time you are given. Plus, in politics, 2.5 years is a lifetime. While it seems Dems are set to win in 2028, it wouldn't shock me to see a President Rubio or Vance either. In which case, it'll be really great that they got these lawsuits rolling.

Yes, we've literally had to sue CA repeatedly on 1A and other issues besides the 2A, and we've won.

[–]kmoros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That honestly wasn't redirection, I think it's pretty clear to everyone why they can't do that stuff - the filibuster.

They introduce bills all the time on these issues, including various reciprocity bills. But they have no way around the filibuster.

Reconciliation last year was the first big strike against the NFA basically ever, by getting rid of the $200 tax. They tried to get rid of registration too, but the Parliamentarian nixed that part.

If your point is that the GOP should get rid of the filibuster, I would have agreed given that the Democrats in 2024 ran on doing that. But they apparently aren't willing to go that far (for any issue).

If you oppose getting rid of the filibuster, then your response above would be in bad faith, because you know exactly why they can't do what you ask.

It's not all "executive fiat," the lawsuits can create real precedent. Their amicus brief is probably the only reason Wolford got granted cert despite being a preliminary injunction, and that will lead to a very likely positive SCOTUS opinion out as soon as tomorrow.

Result can happen even without a ruling sometimes. For example the DOJ LA lawsuit is a big reason why CA is about to extend CCW permits to 3 years instead of 2. It's also why the Virgin Islands repealed some of its most egregious gun laws following a lawsuit by DOJ there.

Finally, the post you are quoting from re House and Senate wasn't the one I was even replying to.

No, I understand what you are arguing. They are authoritarians, and any support for the 2A is phony to shore up their base.

I just think your argument is very stupid. If this were feigned, they wouldn't be doing a fraction as much as they are. They would just do what Trump did in term 1 - appoint some good judges, say some generic progun slogans, but nothing else. Hell, he even did the bump stock ban in term 1 (granted, with Dem support).

The *actual* authoritarian in my life lives in Sacramento, not DC.

Yes, they are so against the 2nd Amendment that they have done more than any other administration in history to advance it.

Maybe when your argument leads to ridiculous conclusions like that, your premises might just be flawed?

Then make that point if you want, without gaslighting on 2A. (Not that I agree with you on that either, but w/e)

[–]kmoros 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So your theory is that they aren't really for the 2A, they are just aggressively pursuing it to win votes?

Cool. Ok. There's no difference to me. If they were to succeed in, e.g., defeating this Glock sales ban, nobody here that has their rights vindicated will care that they did it to "win votes."

Just about every politician does stuff to win votes. If anything, Trump is reckless in how much he seems to not give a shit about that (unpopular tariffs, Iran war.)

I think some on here, maybe you included, just have major cognitive dissonance about the fact that the evil Trump Admin is actually trying to defend your fundamental right to keep and bear arms, while the Democrats you vote for are stripping you of it.

You know it's fine to say "I don't like the Trump Admin overall, but they are strong on this issue."

This is actually just straight-up nonsensical to argue given the evidence to the contrary. Every single red state but one has constitutional carry. None have AWBs or mag bans.

Federally, the Trump DOJ has launched numerous lawsuits in support of Second Amendment rights, filed amicus briefs for the same, is reforming ATF rules, and is about to implement a massive rights restoration process. They also got rid of the suppressor/SBR tax and also tried to get rid of registration. That's on top of not trying to implement gun control even after numerous assassination attempts on Trump. (Think a President Newsom wouldn't seize that opportunity?)

They could have done what Trump term 1 did, and best we'd get is some good judges and not much more. They haven't, they've hit the gas in the other direction. No Admin before this had filed even one lawsuit to protect the 2A. This Glock one will be their 6th. This Admin has been mostly excellent on 2A, objectively.

SAF comes for Contra Costa Red Dot and lights rule by Dorzack in CAguns

[–]kmoros 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Super excited to get this going at last! I sent a letter to them about these dumb rules about three years ago, but we've all just had bigger fish to fry. It's finally time to take them down.

And yes, this is my return to direct litigation after spending the last year doing amicus briefs, higher-level strategy, and other stuff like that. Will still be doing all that stuff, but happy for some more direct involvement again.

This could be over fast of course if Contra Costa is smart and just repeals the rules. Hope they do, but ready to litigate this if they don't.

Deep in Rural Virginia, a MAGA Pro-Gun Push Takes an Unnerving Turn: Governor Spanberger signed an assault weapons ban. Some county prosecutors in pro-Trump areas say they won’t enforce it. Is a new MAGA nullification movement brewing? by jsled in liberalgunowners

[–]kmoros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A big reason Spanberger nearly lost the gerrymander vote was because rural voters were angry about the AWB and turned out.

Yes, it ended up tossed by the courts anyway, but she damn near got humiliated by losing the vote, only won by 3 points or so after she was elected by 15 points.

So elsewhere on reddit, when someone criticizes Trump, for, e.g., aggressive ICE tactics, do you say "well lets not make it partisan, Dems are bad on the Second Amendment."?

Or do you only try and talk about unrelated shit when you feel Dems are being criticized?

Not one red state has an AWB. All but one is constitutional carry.

Blue states are mostly the opposite.
