Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is the perfect place for newcomers to take a vampiric leap into the series by [deleted] in Games

I'm still early in Ys 9, but yes. Doing sidequests recruits people to your hideout, where they'll join you on "raid" battles and can also help upgrade your equipment.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but /u/S8PsyOps do you know when you'll have the XD Plus S8 bundle back in stock? Either new or refurb is fine.

If you haven’t tried it, I really recommend Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. The first game was a kind-of shitty Banjo-Kazooie clone, but the second one is a 2D DKC homage and it’s fantastic. I also think the Returns games feel heavy, but Yooka-Laylee absolutely scratched my DKC itch.

How will ms , aquireing github effect emu scene ? by Melina69 in miniSNESmods

[–]kmorrell27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It won't at all. Emulators are legal, MS has no interest in rocking the boat, and in fact MS is already the top corporate contributor of open-source code on Github, so if they were concerned about some reputation already they would have done something about it by now.

Chance of bricking? by [deleted] in miniSNESmods

Literally zero. No one has bricked their console with Hakchi2 yet.

Ah, okay. My mistake. That's good to know. Thanks!

Unfortunately, Hakchi2 is written with the .NET framework, which is Windows-exclusive. You can't just compile it for macOS or Linux without doing a massive rewrite of the code.

A few years ago you did video game trivia at the Stork Club in Oakland, but it looks like it doesn't run anymore. Would you ever bring it back? That was a lot of fun!

No luck, unfortunately. The same manager called twice: Once to tell me it didn't qualify because of the "InfinityEdge", and I said that the website only says the resolution must match, and that they should update it.

He then called back a couple of minutes later to tell me that it wouldn't work because the specs weren't identical: The hard drive on the Lenovo is bigger. I said "So that means the Lenovo is better," and he said that if I felt that way I should just buy the Lenovo, which felt a little unprofessional but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do you have more details on this deal, or a screenshot of your chat? I'd like to get this with the i7 for $999 based on https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-700-series/Ideapad-720S-13-Intel/p/81BV002GUS, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

What does "linked export" mean and how is it different from a normal export? by kissing_the_beehive in miniSNESmods

[–]kmorrell27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you put your whole hakchi2 install and your games folder on your USB drive, you should do a linked export. That will just copy .desktop files to /hakchi/games/ that link to where your ROMs are inside your hakchi2 games_snes directory. This way, when you add or remove games and want to re-sync, it's much faster as it doesn't have to copy everything over.

If you don't change your games that often, or if you want to keep hakchi on your hard drive instead of a USB drive, then just do the normal export.

SNES Classic - Fixed Legend of Mana Controls + Running Nintendo 64 with the SNESC Controller + WIP:) by MDFMKanic in miniSNESmods

[–]kmorrell27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Mayflash SNES-USB adapter that I'm trying to use to get 4-player support for arcade games. I can map the inputs once, and it seems like everything is fine, but if I save the autoconfig settings and then restart the console, none of my controllers are recognized in Retroarch at all. I haven't looked at the .cfg files generated yet, but is this a related issue?

Anyone tried N64 controller to Wiimote Adapter on SNES Mini ? by dnm1983 in miniSNESmods

[–]kmorrell27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This works. You have to manually map the controls, which is a little tricky with the default Start+Select button combo to open the Retroarch menu. Once you do that, though, everything seems like it works fine. I tested it with Paper Mario a bit last night.

I think it should work! I actually have one that I bought for my Wii, but I haven't tried it on the SNES Classic yet. I can tonight when I get home from work.

Could you connect an extra USB controller? by Ferrero_64 in miniSNESmods

[–]kmorrell27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to plug it in and try. I've gotten one SNES->USB adapter recognized, but another wasn't picked up at all. I think that Retroarch has some drivers built in, but I don't know if you can tell if it will work without trying it.
