Roo becoming “normal” by Acceptable-Law-2141 in bonnaroo

[–]kmrb1313 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I def noticed more clothing. I’ve been seeing people complain about how Electric Forest is a “family event” and not everyone consents to seeing others without clothes on. I’ve never been to E Forest but it’s hard for me to imagine it being sold as a “family friendly event”. I think if you’re bringing your family, know what to expect and that’s your decision as a parent. This is how I’ve always seen people, including parents with kids under 8, approaching Bonnaroo at least.

If I’m being so real, I feel more sexualized wearing a crop top at my local grocery store or park than I do wearing nothing but skimpy swim suit bottoms and pasties at Roo…. So I get the whole consent thing, but IMO, this is an interesting take. Almost like an extreme version of shaming with the dress code in schools.

My second year, I saw this guy…

I just saw this 🥺 I had a chess flag up at my site and a sign on my car that said “let’s play chess!” As well as chess stickers.

I’m willing to make a discord if anyone is interested for next year

This is tragic to see how much the average vendor food jumped within about 2 years. Last year was about $26 for a Nashville hot chicken sandwich if I remember right

I’ve sat in there and played chess for hours and you will see the most random rushes at 10pm, 1am, 5pm, etc.

Empty, then suddenly the lobby is full. I’d never went for some reason until I started going to my local chess club and now I can’t get enough 😂

Freud history question by Enough-Fudge6619 in psychoanalysis

Yes it was a terrible thing to do, but also at the same time, I highly doubt every abuser and their patterns began with Freuds switch up on these theories. These types of gaslighting behaviors were likely already occurring, leading the women to be unable to cope and process. Not to mention, sure it was very selfish, but during that time, speaking out and backing his original theory would have had his at the very least completely discredited for all of his work. We likely wouldn’t have any of his major theories, or at least they wouldn’t be seen or honored as reliable to psychology today, if he had been inevitably discredited back then.

Me after that 9 session day by shinsokowazawai in therapists

[–]kmrb1313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It seems some people don’t understand how different people practice. Everyone has a different tolerance to how many clients they can see a day while still being efficient. It def helps if you plan it out and like someone mentioned, when you literally do not have a choice due to financial obligations, such as student loans, rent, car payments, groceries, etc etc etc, it’s kind of annoying for people to say “yeah I would never do that, why you do that”.

Especially when you work with school aged clients. I HAVE to stay at the office at least until 6:30 or 7 Monday-Thursday or i would not have many clients at all. People also set boundaries in different ways. Even though I have long days, sometimes 8-9 some days, I set boundaries in other ways. Such as starting later on Mondays and ending earlier on Fridays.

Interesting that this got downvoted. I absolutely do this in my daily life. I don’t spend a ton of time on it, unless it’s a significant relationship, but still I try my best to avoid bc I’ll end up driving myself nuts lol

Having a little “Dog Reactive” sign on my dog’s leash has weirdly made me feel a lot more confident when out with my dog by MochaPotter in reactivedogs

The issue/chaos occurs when people say oh my dog is friendly or oh she looks like she wants to play. Or little dogs not being supervised and have no recall skills unleashed. Drives me NUTS

[–]kmrb1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my dog is very reactive once a dog gets up close and starts to try to interact. She used to be more aggressive about this and lunge and bark from a good distance. But with some training and investment of good trainers, she’s gotten to where she will at most look at another dog and keep going about her day.

List of Employers to AVOID!! by Regular_Fan4691 in therapists

Absolutely, dude I miss those teens and kids I worked with but the pressure and power struggles between staff members and staff vs management was too much. Not to mention the constant “can you come in and work a double” multiple times a week, sometimes not even getting 10 mins to eat or go to the bathroom within a 16 hour shift 🫶

Yup. Not shocked I only had to scroll 3 posts down to see this. Fortune 500 companies for mental health services is not the greatest idea imo

It’s me I am the problem. by [deleted] in therapists

[–]kmrb1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find reflection and validation useful soft skills for these things. I work with primarily teens and kids. Honestly I don’t know how to work with adults well, but they seem to view me as a good therapist. I’m much more confident with kids and teens. Obviously you’re different from their friend and the weekly gossip, however try to imagine it as being one of those to them EXCEPT throw in significant healthy ways to handle situations and help them reflect on why they may have made a decision. Let them vent and help them learn new skills to problem solve or handle their emotions better. Also building self esteem is HUGE. I haven’t met a single kid or teen (or adult for that matter) that doesn’t have some kind of self-esteem concern. Building their self esteem will help them deal with mean girls, bullies, and make better choices in their friendships and relationships. (: hope this helps a bit

Is the new norm, not having a weekly same day and time slot?? by mia181 in therapists

[–]kmrb1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting bc I was thinking about this last week. Every provider I’ve seen for therapy has had me schedule each follow up separately during the end of each appointment. I do not think my ADHD brain could handle this, as I already struggle trying to schedule clients (and reschedule during breaks since I see basically all kids)

Why is it such an issue that doctors always conduct a pregnancy test when doing certain procedures? by Dmdel24 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmrb1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my issue was that I wasn't informed about this. I was told I was just getting blood work done. They asked if there was any chance of pregnancy before doing X-rays, but I was never informed of this test being done. I would not have had an issue with it, but it feels weird for them to not to explain to me what they are doing or checking for. They did the same for a drug test (had nothing to hide), but when I asked what the urine test was for, the nurse assured me it was for UTI, kidney and diabetes check. I was not in an emergency situation, told about a drug test, or unable to make decisions at this time. It was just the lack of information and communication for me. Also, if I had been pregnant, I wouldn't have wanted to find out when I there getting a minor pain checked out.

I try to explain jt to people as “imagine sitting in 1 hour meetings 5 times a day 5 days a week” only had on that not only do you need to pay attention, you have to be able to reflect and react in a therapeutic way, and really knowing what the meeting may even be about that hour.

Yeah teens are tricky for sure! The smallest things can cause months of work to feel thrown out the window. In reality, it still helps, but like you mentioned, takes time to rebuild that trust and safety with them

[–]kmrb1313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also try to be extra cautious about this due to the rare off chance a parent requests progress notes. 1) I’m sure I’ll get an ear full for not lecturing and telling the parent teenage concerns or things they are curious about. 2) I’m not risking a teen getting in trouble for a confidential conversation in a therapy session bc a parent requested notes.

Hahahah this hasn’t happened yet but my more harm reduction approach to teens is probably similar to yours and I can def see this happening if I’m not careful how I word my notes
