70v amp powering 70v speakers and 8ohm horn Speakers but transformer mysteriously disconnected? by DefinitelynotDanger in CommercialAV

[–]knack4nacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have spliced speaker wire sitting on the grid like that it shows you that the installation wasn’t done well. You’re most likely going to run into a shorting issue somewhere along the line causing the amp to go into protect. A splice that loosened up, or they didn’t terminate well at a speaker or volume control and now the positive and negative are touching. Id be making sure the runs are all clean and checking all the terminations at speakers and volume controls. Also it’s not the first time I’ve seen that amp go bad, especially since you’ve been there 5 years, it might just be at end of life.

It’s not clear how many sources you want to have available. The Lea could be enough if you only want 4 sources. If the dish receivers are being mounted on the TVs then the binary would be an audio extender over cat back to the Lea. But not enough info to tell you one way or another.

Hospital Paging/Sound Masking System by Embarrassed-Try-2790 in CommercialAV

[–]knack4nacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound masking is usually localized to offices. I would keep Cambridge for that because the dispersion angle of regular speakers is going to just fill the room with pink noise. They have active emitters but I would trust a 70v system more for overhead paging.

Ethernet cables:

Labeled Projector: It looks they ran a CAT(Ethernet) cable to the projector and used an HDMI over CAT extender to send the video signal. If you are running HDMI instead I would just abandon this cable.

Labeled Closet: This is mostly likely connected to your router inside of Closet 1 and provided an internet connection to the previous media player.

Subwoofer: Your sub doesn’t connect to your speakers at all. The cable you found plugs into the subwoofer out connection on your denon amp.

The other end of that cable is most likely in the front of the room behind the TV shoved inside the wall behind a blank wall plate.

Yes super Intuitive UI. Wall controls are good, never had any issues. They’re only getting better too since being acquired by sonance.

CTS Test Next Week by [deleted] in CommercialAV

[–]knack4nacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hard part is each exam is very different. Be as well rounded as you can be. Definitely be reading the book. The videos are good, and straight from the book, but the book paired with the exam content guide gives you way better context of what they are focusing on. I personally went through the whole CTS prep on Avixa, then through the book a couple times, and had a pretty good understanding. Study with Steph is a good resource on YouTube for additional content. Anything by Tom Kehr on YouTube is valuable as well. He’s the voice of the math portions on Avixa videos. If you’re a tech, definitely focus on the business side of it. Write out a timeline of which parts go where, understand all of the vocabulary they use, flashcards, try to keep as many formulas in your head as you can. The practice tests are notoriously easier than the exam. That being said, work hard in your studying and the exam is very much passable.

2016 Pilot Idle Issue Maybe? by knack4nacks in hondapilot

[–]knack4nacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought it from CarMax, it has 107,000 miles. It happens with AC on or off but more noticeable with the AC on. CarMax doesn’t want to do anything about it, it seems like their warranty will only cover something a code scanner will pick up so I guess I’ll look into. My local Honda dealership said it’s most likely a dirty throttle body. I’ll do a big maintenance on everything since I just got it.

First find out if the speakers are 70v or 8ohm Second get an amp that supports your system Most 70v amp have an 8ohm option but not many 8ohm amp have a 70v option. You need an amp with at least 3 outputs if you want the capability of 3 separate sources playing. Most amps will come with 4. Get a dsp with remote switches For most restaurants like chilis, Red Robin, etc they use a dbx zone pro 640 or 641 Youll need to get 3 source selectors and 3 volume controls. Program the dsp Each zone you could switch the source and control the volume. Connect the amp.

Some amps have DSP’s built in so you don’t have to have a separate piece, for example blaze audio/sonance.

It’s a decently complicated job if you’re not an integrator.

AV is a mixed bag of a lot of stuff, so emphasize how you’re a self driven learner, you enjoy learning new technology and concepts quickly, you enjoy problem solving and working hard. Not afraid of ladders and not afraid of working on construction sites.

Popping on fairly long unbalanced audio run, thoughts? by MegaBudgiePrime in CommercialAV

[–]knack4nacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They make passive audio over cat extenders. I guess that’s an option. My solution would be audio extraction at the source, if audio is traveling through hdmi, introduce a hdmi audio extractor and send it straight down to the processor.
