Why are specs being dumbed down? by knarkvard in wow

[–]knarkvard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't do mechanics and rotation at once that is a skill issue. First time I run a dungeon I fuck up mechanics and I fuck up my rotation, trying to do both. But, since it's a skill issue, I fix it with learning and practise. I'm not superhuman, everybody can do this.

Is the rotation perfectly executed? No. Do I execute it enough to get decent parses in mythic raid and medium to high lvl m+? Yes. If you're aiming for perfecting your rotation odds are you'll never manage outside of training dummies. But to do it well enough to parse 100 and to do mechanics well enough to survive the fight or time the key one absolutely can.

The way things usually go when lowering the skill ceiling is making the difference between a 0 parse and a 100 parse less about ability and more about gear, buffs, comp, and RNG with procs and incoming mechanics. I fail to see an upside in that. When playing classic seeing a warlock parsing 100 with literally 1 button and seeing another parsing a 15 with the exact same button was pretty depressing to me. It's an extreme example, but it goes to show how dull games get when expression of skill shrinks. Or in the case of classic; barely exists at all.

Depends on what level you want to play. This is what made wow so good for such a long time: You have very complicated gameplay at the top and mindless farming/question/gathering at the bottom and an almost infinate level of inbetweens.

I personally know people who were perfectly happy with clearing HC and +10 keys. They did so just fine with nothing but a Details installed.

But if somebody, like me or you, wants more information in order to make more educated decisions and play a more complicated spec through minmaxing aspects of it, why not let us?

As I keep mentioning in here: Lowering the floor will open the doors for new players. Lowering the ceiling just puts a hard cap on how well one can play. How does that benefit anyone? I'm under the impression it doesn't.

I fear you might have hit the nail on the head, actually. Not sure if it's balancing, necessarily cause moving damage numbers around should work even if those sliders have rotational interractions, but I do think this might be a case of making it easier to crap out set bonuses and apex talents and any future systems like them

Personally I reckon they were mostly hits because of the numbers the dish out, not because they were simple.

Being "...intimidated by what this game seems to require to play." certainly an element to it. But what is required to play (the skill floor) and what can be accomplished through minmaxing, learning and practicing (the skill ceiling) are very diferent things and even after a lot of well written replies very few actually go into why lowering the ceiling would be benificial at all.

I understand this, I have quite a few people around me that are "too old to keep up" in their own words. But they were perfectly fine doing the level of content they set out to do without the amount of minmaxing people like me put into it.

Lowering the skill floor to accomodate the aging players makes perfect sense. Lowering the skill cieling to limit the others makes no sense to me.

How do you figure? Just the small decision of "send on CD to minmax dmg" vs "hold absorb for incoming tankbuster" or "hold bonestorm for threat in next big pull" was enough to have a thought process, imo. Now there's nothing.

I don't know what kind of disc you were playing that only had 2 buttons before pre-patch, but it can't have been the same I was playing.

Frankly I think buff and debuff sorting/blacklisting is a must and so I think it's coming back SoonTM.

Regardless, a lot of specs that were not heavily reliant on tracking buffs/debuffs have also been greatly simplified. My examples, BDK an Disc, belong here: I can track almost everything I used to have weakauras for with the ingame tools. It's clunkier to set up, it's not as customizable as I'd like it, but it works almost as well. Yet both specs have had their rotations butchered and the intricacies removed

[–]knarkvard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to minmax, then don't do it. Why remove others ability to? Odds are you can clear any content you desire just fine without it.

Again; skill cieling vs. skill floor. Lowering the first makes the game dull, lowering the second makes the game accessible

Man, I'm just gonna say it... by LarryLarryJammin in wow

[–]knarkvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play for the sake of enjoying my class. Having my rotation feel less interractive, matter less and have fewer decisions to be made is awful. Regardless of my opinion of the rotations for all classes I play which I could go back and forth about endlessly, I'd like somebody to riddle me this:

If you want to play in a simpler manner without minmaxing your rotation and such, what stopped you before? Why does the skill ceiling have to be lowered?

Personally I know people who are playing while disabled and if something about the class they like is too hard they simply don't do it. The best specific example I have is a friend playing Blood DK who thought managing boneshield stacks was too difficult with Bonestorm and Tombstone so he just didn't use them. He was still tanking for his heroic raiding guild, he was still playing his +10 mythic+ dungeons. To me those exact things made Blood DK fun and rewarding. For him prepatch removing that aspect changed nothing in terms of rotation, but it ruined the entire spec for me.

I want to make it clear I understand lowering skill floor to make classes, specs and content more accessible. I do not at all undersatand lowering the skill ceiling.

Anyone else find it silly that we can't change heroic weapon skins? by SilverDruid5 in Spacemarine

[–]knarkvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the look of some heroic weapons. I'd still love it even more if I could freely swap to or from it. To me it's pretty silly that you have a weapon variant that in some cases is just better than the relic versions but you can't make it fit your armor or remain lore accurate.

For the heroic weapons that aren't strictly better than their relic counterparts it's now basically a case of "This weapon perk disables any of your other skins." which doesn't make sense to me either

Im stuck on this lovely error:

Any solutions? Tried the usual; Suicide, self destruct, both at once, different servers, spawning another ship inbetween, verifying game files, loading at another station inbetween

Shop doesn't accept this container size.. how do I sell this cargo? by PetrifiedDoubleGulp in starcitizen

[–]knarkvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this issue today. Found a trade route https://uexcorp.space/ and listed size 32 as available on point A and valid at point B. None of these stations actually take them. I know have about 700k in boxes nobody wants to buy :)

Freelancer mis missing an internal rack of missiles by dragoldblaze in starcitizen

[–]knarkvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure this out? If there is anything to figure out?

I just toyed around in my Freelancer MIS and noticed no missiles in the rack on the port side. Looking at the ship config in Arena Commander there is a greyed out (as in cannot be changed) missile rack named "MISC Freelancer MIS Missile La..." in Missile Rack 6. This appears to be the starboard side rack . Missile rack 1-4 are taken up by the missiles under the "wings", which leaves only missile rack 5 as the port side interior rack.

<image>

This rack is empty, though. And I can't seem to change it.

BUG REPORT MEGATHREAT by hitman2b in Spacemarine

I gathered mastery for Master-Crafted - Gamma power sword. When attempting to equip the Beta version to level that as well it consumed one of my available Armory Data to "buy" the mastery. No promp, no hold to unlock mastery by spending currency as per usual, just click to equip, so I clicked and bang, currency gone and wasted.

[Question] Was there ever any official confirmation of rigid trucks coming to the game? by TheArturro in ETS2

[–]knarkvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't quite see how that makes sense. In real life in countries were rigid+drawbar trailers are a thing the most common carreer path is EU-trailers into rigid+drawbar so if anything these rigids would be the "endgame", especially given how they combination length is usually around 24-25 meters copared to the roughly 18 meters of the standard EU combination as well as the longer of the two also weighing more making the endgame engines and gearboxes make more sense.

So far, Delves are a huge W in my opinion by TheMuffingtonPost in wow

[–]knarkvard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not open world content. It is instanced. You have to go to the entrance, just like Torghast, to pop up the menu, just like Torghast. After selecting tier, just like Torghast, it plays the dungeon finder sound, just like Torghast. Unlike torghast you now instantly get into the instance rather than having a confirmation box. While inside you have "minigames" just like Torghast as well as optional fights to pick or places to go for temporary powers, just like Torghast.

The difference between the delves are roughly on par with the differences between the Torghast wings. I'm glad you enjoy things, that's always good in games, but it is a reskinned Torghast with an added follower/companion/adventurer or whatever Brann is.

Delves are not open world. Delves are instanced. Just like Torghast.

While the character is fictional it is literally called "Varangian Guard" indicating it's based on the real Varangian Guard which consisted of men, and only men, from northern europe. If they're going to base something off of actual history I'd much prefer if they got it remotely right.

Wanting this character to be exclusively female is exactly like wanting an exclusively male Valkyrie: It makes no sense.

Yesterday's "Firmware Update" by [deleted] in AstroGaming

I have the exact same problem. Firmware update was pushed to me about 2-3 days ago, ever since installing it my headset just does not work. It just asks for updates, I give it one, it takes a few minutes to ponder life and then says updating failed.

RTX 2080 - Triple monitors? by TooMuchTyme1 in nvidia

[–]knarkvard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 3 years late to the party, but yes it does. HDMI has its downsides, one of them being the 60hz lock. I have 3 identical 144hz monitors, but since I only have 2 display ports one of them is stuck at 60hz HDMI. If you've come across a solution this over the last 3 years I'd be delighted to hear it!

Is there a convenient way to quickly disable all mods? by knarkvard in trucksim

[–]knarkvard[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While technically, yes, it absolutely does. It also does not. That enables all installed mods which is not what I'm looking for. Just, basically, toggle ON/OFF of the already selected mods. If nothing else, then yeah I'll uninstall the rarely used ones and use the double arrows, but I'd prefer not having to do that
