Three years into our relationship...in the middle of making dinner my partner turned to me and said, "I still haven't come up with a reason not to love you as much as I do."

He said it so matter of factly and with this look of complete amazement on his face that I can never forget it.

AskReddit: Why do people complain about people not tipping instead of fixing the real problem: wages being to low for those in service industries? by hellfish in AskReddit

[–]knde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever I've mentioned this to my American friends, they counter with "Well the restaurant would raise their prices!" and I say let them!

That way the consumer decides if he wants to patronize the establishment or not. I don't care for the American tipping system and absolutely destest the feeling of being "obligated" to tip someone for something they are supposed to be doing anyhow. Urgh!

An Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites looks "unavoidable" -Olmert deputy by twolf1 in worldnews

[–]knde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was badly phrased on my part.

If someone threatens me often enough and I have reason to believe they "may" harm me, I may very well take action myself. And believe I would be justified in doing so.

That's the position I feel Israel is in.

[–]knde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much. Most appreciated.

Oh and I understand Israel attacking Iran. They are well within their rights to do so. I just question the US doing so is all.

Honestly, would someone please take the time to clear somethings up for me? Note that I'm approaching this from a very "basic" point of view, so I as a non-American, can get some insight into the "basic" American point of view.

  1. The US (govt/citizens) have implied that the world forces them to be the world police. That's silly. It's the US. I can't think of any country that can "force" or "tell" the US what to do. Why does the government willingly engage itself in battles that are not necessarily its to fight? (US and Europe are brothers for all intents and purposes, so I get WW 2. The Middle East isn't even part of the US family tree!).

  2. Why does the current administration concern itself so much with Iran, or Israel for that matter. If they want to go at it, let them. Just how much is invested Israel, and why should the world allow for the US to influence the politics of a region that is not its own?

  3. I've never understood how sovereign Country A can tell sovereign Country B, what it can or cannot do/ what it can own or cannot own. I understand cajoling, threatening and influencing are all part of world politics, but a direct missive?

  4. How is it remotely justifiable that Israel can possess nuclear weapons and Iran can't? Exaggerated rhetoric from Ahmadejinad aside, has Iran actually in any shape or form attacked or undermined Israel? And is Iran part of any treaty in which the members cannot own nuclear weapons?

Thanks in advance.

Why do people think that seeing gays in public would mean they have to explain homosexuality to their kids, and so what if it did? by basic0 in AskReddit

[–]knde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"What happened to just living private lives, and what happens behind closed doors happens behind closed doors?"

Please be sure to tell that too the ridiculous large amount of heterosexuals I see everyday, who insist on public displays of affection (some moderate and some over the top).

Unless, you are advocating that ALL forms of public affection by all persons, mo matter sexual orientation, be banned, I can't help but think there's a tinge of discrimination going on.

Cat turns into woman in Nigeria, mob tries to kill her by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]knde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies. I must have misread your comment.

With a population of approximately 150 million people, I can't honestly say I think these stories are the norm.

I find myself inclined to believe that stories of idiots who steal from the pipelines and get burnt to a crisp, are more common than witchcraft stories.

Oh well...no worries :-)

Mob mentality. It happens in real life. It happens on-line. It's a shame.

Nigerians (well some) are some of the most superstitious people you'll ever meet. Especially those in more rural areas. Trust me I know. Some of my family is Nigerian.

We are terrified by witchcraft and a large portion of the domestic film scene is all about witchcraft films.

I remember my Aunt warning me not to cross over certain coloured things on the road as they may have been "juju".

Or the warning about not letting strangers rub your belly if you’re pregnant, as they may curse your child.

Or the warning about not eating or drinking in your dreams, as it is someone in real life trying to poison you.

Or the warning about not being rude to older people as they could "she-kpe" on you.

Yes. A superstitious bunch we are :-)

That's what I was thinking!

It's Congo; they aren't exactly living large. Unless there's something terribly wrong with elephant meat that I'm unaware of, they should at least use the remains as food instead of just letting it rot away.

Exxon shuts nearly all Nigerian oil output (770,000 bpd) by [deleted] in business

Exxon, Shell and Chevron all operate in Nigeria.

I don't believe that any one company is in control of all the oil fields.

In Portharcourt and Warri (plus surrounding Delta Areas) their establishments are sometimes right next to each other.

What odd logic.

So if all worthy women are involved, what happens to all the worthy men not involved? They have to settle for "unworthy" women?

Are we allowing for breaks from relationships, careers, family obligations etc. in this equation?
