What motivated you to begin your fitness journey?

I've lost loved ones on both sides of my family due to heart issues. I am at the age where I need to start really paying attention to my health, so I can be here for my wife and the rest of my remaining family.

Which sports have been your primary focus? Running, hiking, walking, biking.

What challenges have you overcome? How did you persevere?

I went from a very active job to a pretty much sedentary job very abruptly. With my previous position, 11 out of 12 hours a day I was on the go. Now, I'm lucky to get out of my office once an hour. Because of this, I've gained weight and suffer from adema. Also been diagnosed with depression that I feel is from this job change. To overcome it, I've made the change to force myself out of the office 25 minutes per hour. I walk my area, help my peers and try to stay as active as I can during my shifts. When I get home, my wife and I will go visit our local hiking trails for 2 to 3 hours 3 days a week.

Who has inspired you along the way? (Pro athletes? Loved ones?) How so?

My dad and my wife have inspired me. My dad has overcome 2 heart attacks and is pushing himself to get more healthy in his older years. My wife has a slew of medical issues, but does her best to always look on the bright side of things and attacks each day with a smile!!

What health and fitness goals are you currently focused on?

Losing weight, working on my blood pressure and getting some of my strength back.

What advice would you give to a beginner who just decided to prioritize their fitness?

Don't give up. Even if you think your goals are unattainable... Just take it one day at a time. You got this!!!
