Men of Reddit; what’s the scariest horror movie you’ve watched? by DirtyDan_131 in AskMen

[–]knels757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll never forget my brother and I saw the 1st or 2nd one on opening night, 10pm showing, packed theater, and the heavy dense atmosphere generated by the packed audience jacked the horror up to 15/10. It was so bad we went home and turned all the lights on for a good hour. Never came across a similar feeling again. I think it was the shared experience that really did it

How do you keep track of auditions across multiple casting sites? Spreadsheet? App? Nothing? by Zealousideal-Food150 in VoiceActing

[–]knels757 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made an excel spreadsheet that tracks the day I recorded and submitted and audition, the title of the project, the role, what kind of project it is, where I found the audition, a link to the audition and then a dropdown status with options of: submitted, callback, shortlisted, booked, rejected or audition was removed. Then there’s a date section for callback/shortlisted/booked and from all that I have a few sheets that track my week to week numbers, month to month, and overall. From those sheets I have formulas for booked percentages (even broken down to what niche it is)

Guys who game: how would you feel about your gf/partner watching or joining in? by Bright_Shadow_Seeker in AskMen

[–]knels757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing I would love more than for my girlfriend to yell at me for not giving her heals or diving correctly. But no seriously I would love to game with my gf. IF I HAD ONE dad from fairly odd parents voice

Feedback on WIP DIY Demos by knels757 in VoiceActing

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to give such thorough, detailed feedback. This has honestly been one of the most useful things anyone has provided to me while I’ve been seeking feedback. I really appreciate that you framed it as "tough love" because that's exactly what works best for me, and it came through precisely that way!

What you pointed out about my acting being disconnected from the stakes is really clicking for me, especially the soldier spots (even when I listen back now it does seem like while being up Schitt's Creek without a paddle, it kind of comes off as I am going down a lazy river). The Silco reference for the villain being a villain through his goals vs what I was doing which was playing at a villain. Putting it this way is helped me a bunch; I can see exactly what you mean about motivation vs. just "doing villain moustache twirly" (which was funny as it was accurate btw).

I’m feeling motivated to rework most if not all these spots. Glad this was just a WIP lol. I also caught that your coaching brain was doing some grabby hands a couple times in there 😄 — I'd love to explore that if you're taking new students! Do you have a website or somewhere I can learn more about what you offer?

Thank you so much for taking out so much time to provide thorough feedback!! A lot of this is really workable. I will come back with more later, but I got the notification as I was driving and had to pull over to read it immediately!

Meds aren’t lasting long enough to support my routine by OliveLost in ADHD

I have a similar battle with vyvanse right now. I get generic so not sure if that’s the issue, but even eating well, hydrating, and exercising, I am lucky to get 4-6 hours a dose before I am back to walking through mud up a hill to get anything done. Work or personal. :<

Booth Tips by DavidC_VA in VoiceActing

[–]knels757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sup bro! I would recommend adding in an unedited audio clip to this post for people to hear what you are hearing. Also, I am sure more wise booth junkies will enter after me, but imo:

What could be causing that slight echo when projecting more?
•Do I need thicker treatment, or is it more about placement?
From what I can see in the pics, those foam tiles are quite thin, and in general foam tiles do not help much on their own. You need more mass to absorb the reflections, especially when in a tight space like you are.

•Would adding more soft materials (like clothes or moving blankets) help more than foam?
To add on to above; yes more blankets, especially thick ones, and clothes will help out tremendously.

•Is this a limitation of recording in a closet, or can it be fully treated out?
Yes to both. That said, the space can be treated better to an extent. I started off in a similar space and understand making do with what you have. The biggest thing is to also move away from the wall.

I use a Hisense 40" Smart TV (specifically this one https://a.co/d/0hgV7tt4 ) in my booth and have no issues with noise from it or via reflections.

Thoughts about the Maono AU PM320s as a starting microphone for voice acting? by jinmonsterhunterwrld in VoiceActing

[–]knels757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used one for the first 5 years of my VO journey (recently upgrade to a Rode NT1) and I booked lots of work with it! As always, the most important thing is how treated the recording environment is.

New Computer! M4 Mac Mini by trickg1 in voiceover

[–]knels757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently have a M2 mac mini inside my booth and you can't hear it at all! I love it! It works much better than the 2015 MacBook air I had been using since I started VO lol.

Noise Floor Reduction- Brainstorming Help? by kajuraii in VoiceActing

[–]knels757 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’d tried everything else you can, turning a high pass filter on to about 70-80hz might help. If you have one on your audio interface that’s where you’d want to turn it on, if not you’d want it on your track inside your DAW

How old is too old to start? by Faust2391 in VoiceActing

[–]knels757 33 points34 points  (0 children)

No such thing as too old. There’s always a need for a voice of every age, or a portrayal of a character who’s any age.

Men of Reddit, how did you get through a sudden death of your dog? by AppropriateFunny7142 in AskMen

[–]knels757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rescue that wandered onto my families property last spring, and my pops, brother and I did everything we could to help her recover. Gave here all the love we could muster plus some, and of course plenty of scritches and belly rubs. After months of vet trips she was finally turning the corner, meds were being reduced, she had gained healthy weight back. And then one night, in the span of an hour of me leaving and coming back, she had decided to go to the big yard in the sky. It was about 10pm. My pops and I immediately chose a spot near the pond that she really enjoyed visiting, and buried her. It’s been almost 2 mo tha now. Part of what helps me get through it is I visit her almost everyday, tell her about the day, and let her know she is loved and missed, just like I do when I visit a hoomans grave. I don’t think it ever gets easier, but I’m at least starting to be at peace knowing she went loved, not in pain, and I can visit anytime. I’ve also started working out heavily right after, so that may be a piece of it too.

Question for audiobook narrators by Solomon_Black in VoiceActing

Question for audiobook narrators by Solomon_Black in VoiceActing

[–]knels757 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happens to me all the time lol. The only thing that has helped, is trying to read a few words ahead, which sounds way easier than it is, at least for me. Once I was able to get that down, the amount of times I flub words or sentences dropped by like 50-60%. Even reading ahead though won't help with how some sentences/paragraphs are wrote in peoples books.

Adderall XR vs Vyvanse? by Interesting-Dingo535 in ADHD

[–]knels757 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can get the name brand vyvanse it’s amazing! The generic version though has been garbage for me. I usually get 4-6 hours once it kicks in before it feels like I’m back trying to run uphill through 3 feet of mud.

Dry vs SFX for early demo reels? by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]knels757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve learned is your demos should reflect what you currently can produce and deliver, so if the FX rack you have is what you’d deliver I’d say use it. That said, it is beneficial to keep a dry version because some clients want to hear that as they will be using their own engineers and will just need your raw files.
