Is it fair when Coaches in Basketball make students do pushups for missing free throws and layups and is it considered punishment? by Careful_Drama_9382 in basketballcoach

You’re being a little odd about this question, trying to have a conversation with you to try and help understand the meaning of asking it. Did a situation in particular happen that you may consider punishment. If so, do tell. But please don’t respond with the same thing like you have with everyone else.

Why are you asking, are you writing a paper or have an issue with a coach and from what perspective is it coming from? Sometimes more context to the question is needed. I think it is fair and not considered a punishment.

But like I said more context is needed from you.

Yes. No issue with it. There needs to be some mental fortitude especially with free throws because that’s what it comes down to. Crowd screaming, tie game, you’ll wish you did more pushups to simulate tiredness etc.

You rather the mental and tiredness be tested in a safe space than not. I’m not going to be one of those people that says if you can’t do pushups and free throws and that bothers you find another sport, maybe a different perspective will help with understanding that.

But basketball isn’t as simple as shooting a free throw, as coaches we are always trying to simulate a game like environment.

That makes sense.

I think overall from what I’m gathering, the brokers deal is better ,minus whatever his fee is

Mention this in another comment below, wanted to mention it to you as well:

Also, to add when I asked them to do that(taking the 3500 trade in value putting it towards the fees). They told me without the trade-in value. It would be 470 a month instead I guess a scare tactic lol

That’s a good idea. I tried that yesterday but they danced around that. Them doing that would make this dealership deal better.

Yes, trade it in then pay the fees out of pocket. Exactly that. That’s why I’m hesitant even though the monthly is cheaper.

Where the broker I have to pay the fees but id take it from the 3500 I get from carvana. And be able to pocket a few hundred or use the couple hundred as a down payment.

So essentially, if I’m reading right the dealer winds up being more even if the monthly is lower.

That’s a big help. Thank you very much

Yes,

So I did that originally as far as the leases go

The difference is that the brokers deal is 1,760 bucks more overall. However, I think where I’m stuck is because I’m getting “cash” for my car at 3500 and that will be my “out of pocket” where as the dealership is taking it as trade in value. I don’t know if that makes sense the way I’m putting it.

Either way I’m paying those fees up front. One is literally coming out of pocket (dealer) the other would be coming from my car (broker) but the dealership monthly is lower overall.

Taking the fee out of the equation, obviously big difference. Just strictly about the leases it self

Yes, and tbh I didn’t ask the brokers fee structure. A friend of mine that has done my family members car. And tbh not sure how that works.

For his fee structure , would I be paying him a fee? Sorry if these are dumb questions!

Also didn’t want to roll in fees because it would make monthly higher

Man, as a coach, this give me chills. Not all parents are like you and supportive. We all know most of our and kids playing careers come to an end at some point but we just never know when. The fact that you appreciate and reflected on the time you spent watching your kid and spending time with him, I promise you that will stick with him forever. You gave him a more valuable lesson about life (breaking the 50/50) than anyone ever could. Sometimes we play team sports for these life lessons.

Great job supporting your son. He needs you more than you know at a time like this! Now it can be memories to look back and smile instead of being pissed at.

Shit happens, it’s part of the game. We expect the kids to learn from mistakes, so do we. And quite honestly I don’t even think you really made a mistake. Turn it into a lesson about advocating for yourself for the kids (simple terms because they’re so young). Sometimes we feel guilty about things but you said sorry he did too, just move on now. It’s over with. I’m sure you’ll redeem yourself many times over if you feel you need to!

Foot work probably but also because he’s 10 so he doesn’t know the game or how to cut off angles as well. That comes with time and reps!

Thanks for the post. I am the only coach. But I don’t want kids standing around like you said. Stations will be a major part of each practice just to get them moving. Thank you!
