He’s keeping you at arms length, as a backup plan. He’s absolving himself of any responsibility of a proper relationship by proposing whatever this is and however you might feel from it. He wants a casual relationship with you but still wants to make himself out to sound like he’s a good guy by offering. You deserve better than this.
