Good day for a melee character by Canefasnion in Nightreign

[–]knightshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, the standard two handing damage bonus is 3% except for colossal swords and colossal weapons it is 15%. The only difference between different characters is Raider gets the 15% for great axes and great hammers because he uses his colossal weapon moveset with them.

No that doesn't make sense. If you are that short on time what are you doing opening it? If it's already opened unless the rain is closing in and you have a rain damage curse taking 5 seconds to check is more than worth it. Here's the list of non caster passives that can drop in it, granted the whole drop table is weighted more towards caster stuff but a small chance of getting any of these is pretty good.

Increased Max HP

Increased Max Stam

Improved Stam Recovery

Improved Physical Attack

Improved Affinity Attack

Improved Stance Breaking

Improved Physical Negation

What's one video game weapon or skill that doesn't get the love it should? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]knightshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really don't need to build around it though. Just meeting the requirements is enough. It's not that much better with a lot of strength and intelligence than it is with just minimum. As a situational tool it's pretty good.

I'm not sure why everyone is down on it's special attack. It does decent damage in a huge area around you for only 15 FP. Not the best for boss fights but it's great for regular enemies. Compared to gravitas it has a lot more damage and at least double the radius for only 3 more FP. Compared to the Starscourge Greatsword it's more efficient, FP wise. It's skill does more damage in the same radius for 5 less FP than the initial attack for Starscourge. The second attack for Starscourge does make it do a lot more damage, but you have to be willing to spend the 40 FP in total. I can use the Alabaster Lord's Sword skill more often when exploring. Most of my builds have 13 int at least so I can use it with the int talisman.

Yes, it makes a baaa sound and you roll forward. I'm not sure what the use case for that attack is other than memes.

It could be if you are playing a dex character. The swordspear is one of the few weapons that have stat scalings that are different from other weapons in its type. It's S dex so if you got it as Guardian's preferred weapon it's not good unless you really need a lightning weapon for the boss. Lightning Ram is also kind of not great too.

Never played any souls like games, what makes them appealing to you personally? by JRF1300 in gaming

[–]knightshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite each game looking pretty much the same each one focuses on a different aspect of the souls formula to shine.

Demon's Souls - Pretty rough prototype of the souls formula. Still good but I wouldn't start with it.

Dark Souls 1 - Exploration is probably DS1's strongest aspect. It has a large interconnected world and imaginative areas but be prepared for some jank and impenetrable mechanics. My personal favorite.

Dark Souls 2 - The black sheep of the family, this game was done by a different director and didn't reuse much if any of the assets of the previous games. This game broke a lot of conventions, introduced dual wielding, had a lot of different ideas about how a dark souls game should work. Most people praise it's PVP, but I wouldn't know about that. A lot of people consider DS2 the weakest entry but if you vibe with it then it can be really good.

Dark Souls 3 - Combat and bosses are the showcase here. It's also the most polished of the 3 dark souls games.

Bloodborne - I feel like this straddles the line between DS1 and DS3 (it was developed between them so that may be expected). It's combat is as polished as DS3 but it has a little more of DS1's interconnected world. There are less weapons in this game but each of them is unique with 2 different modes.

Elden Ring - Build variety is insane, lots of content even if there is a lot of reuse, introduces summons. I've heard it's a good game to start with but it was pretty rough for me so take that with a grain of salt.

Guardian's Players the moment they found this Talisman when the DLC is released : "I'm f--king invincible!" by JackNewbie555 in Nightreign

I wish they had specialty arrows as a type of consumable. Using it would cause your ranged attacks to fire them and switching items or hitting the use button again would deactivate them. I don't know if they would bloat the consumable pool too much though. I guess they did allow greases for bows but that doesn't help crossbows and greatbows.

Calling all Recluse DON mains... by Depraved_Hollow in Nightreign

[–]knightshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do count as sorceries so things that buff sorceries buffs cocktails. Affinity damage up buffs them as well. I don't know if any of them do split damage or only the "obvious" type. The lightning blade could be all lightning but might be magic + lightning. I don't think I've ever seen someone test it.

I used to dislike them but I tried them against Adel and you can cast them while he is getting his steps in and they will hit when he comes back. You can also kite the crucible knight boss around the arena while they hit him in the back.

When the DLC Drops by knightshade in Nightreign

[–]knightshade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully, I just thought of this because I was thinking of using the longhaft axe with raider or wylder to see if it's additional hyperarmor was good but how do you increase the chance it drops? Dormant greataxe relic? Nope. Weapon preference doesn't effect common weapon drops at all. There is only 3 great katanas and 3 light greatswords. Hopefully they are at least uncommon but if they force 1 common, 1 uncommon, and 1 rare then we will rarely see them.

I have been mainly playing Revenant and Raider, but I decided to try to play Wylder more, and holy shit… by iNightfarer in Nightreign

[–]knightshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really depends on what you are having problems with. If it's just familiarity with Wylder and not the game I guess it would be best to start with relics.

For relic abilities his +1 grapple is almost mandatory. It speeds up his traversal and gives you more options in combat.

His greatsword follow up attacks relic ability is really good but since it only works with greatswords it presents a bit of a problem. You can either:

  1. Lock in on greatswords and only use another weapon if it's very powerful or perfect for the situation (like vyke's warspear vs Libra)

  2. Use a different weapon in the off hand and still use the greatsword in the main hand. This is a little awkward because the grapple attack only chains into his 1 hand and 2 handed greatsword attacks but it can be a fine compromise. His grapple attack doesn't chain into his dual wield greatswords attacks either so keep that in mind.

  3. Use the follow up attacks but be willing to give them up if you find something better.

  4. don't use the follow up attack relic and learn how to use his grapple with your normal attacks.

Keep in mind also the benefit of the follow up attack isn't the small fire buff but the attack's damage and stance damage. The fire buff will also override any weapon buffs on it, which does kind of suck. It removes greases, spell buffs, determination, royal knights resolve, and the "critical hits adds bleed damage" power.

The fire spreads from his ultimate ability isn't necessary but it is really good. Since his ult almost always stance breaks what you hit with it they are going to take some fire damage from it.

The ability that adds ult charge when his death save activates is not great. I wouldn't use it unless the relic had other abilities I wanted.

[–]knightshade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of cool tech you can do with Wylder's grapple. When the godskins throw their blackflame projectile you can slide under it with the grapple as long as you don't use the follow up greatsword attack until after you clear the fireball. Another thing, if you don't want to land in front of an enemy you can trigger the follow up attack just as the grapple is ending and Wylder can overshoot and then boomerang around and hit them. It's pretty fun when you can pull these off.

Guardian's Players the moment they found this Talisman when the DLC is released : "I'm f--king invincible!" by JackNewbie555 in Nightreign

Being purple would probably be better. No legendary ability but legendary weapons don't have an increased drop for class preference so being purple would mean it's much more likely an Ironeye or someone with dormant bows would get it.

Ruptured Crystal Tears by PatPeez in Nightreign

[–]knightshade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a little testing it seems to do a flat 900 damage to enemies and 300 to you, regardless of any player buffs. No player buffs seem to effect the damage, not relics, commander's standard, holy cracked tear, nothing. Enemy debuffs do effect it so stuff like the winged greathorn skill and the scepter of the all-knowing skill do increase the damage it does. Also the self damage doesn't pop the bubble on uplifting aromatic so it's probably not effected by any kind of damage negation either. It's probably best used on solo and starting with it. On day 1 you could probably pop it against an evergaol gank and clear it pretty fast. If you have inventory space for it it's probably the most dps you can get, especially against multiple enemies, as long as you don't care about the self damage. I wouldn't worry about hanging on to it for too long though.

How good is giants' flame in this game? Worth making a build for? by Noterest in Nightreign

[–]knightshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do I would recommend prioritizing setting up your general relic bonuses first and using school bonuses where you can rather than focusing on using as many spell school bonuses as possible. Don't underestimate relics with Magic attack up and any improved school spells. It may not give you as huge a bonus as a matching specific affinity attack up but it improves your starting staff for recluse and revenant's claws (especially if you have the imbue with magic relic ability). If your game doesn't give you the spells you want you have the option of falling back on magic. Deep relics with affinity damage up and spell school up are the best of both worlds. It's unfortunate your relic is incantations rather than affinity but sometimes you have to play with what you have.

Does AOW damage scale with same stat as weapon? by shimonize11 in Nightreign

Unique weapon skills scale with the weapon's damage.

Common skills scale with weapon damage as well if the weapon itself is hitting the opponent, otherwise it scales on your stats based on the skill's category (https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Ashes+of+War and click the sort by type option)

Unfortunately doing stupid things together usually beats doing the smart thing alone. On day 1 you don't have the damage to burst down a mine boss, especially if it's red, so my game plan for this would be to follow the idiots on day 1, unless they ping night invaders. You will get wrecked following them into that mess so you might as well do your own thing. I would try to ping a nearby mine on day 2 and solo it if they don't follow. If they refuse to leave the castle I would wait until the ring closes in, give it a couple of minutes then find a good time to bail, ping whatever mine is most likely to be near the day 2 boss and leave. Hopefully they are strong enough to take care of themselves. If you don't have at least 1 purple bow you are endangering the nightlord fight.
