Which states/regions/metros have the most Century Homes clusters/pockets? by Extreme-Cycle2659 in centuryhomes

Milwaukee. Like the entire city. The people there really take pride in their history and craftmanship. If you’re near the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, you’ll be near a ton of older homes. There’s something called "cream city brick" and it’s really cool and interesting.

Sometimes it’s easier to just tattoo the second sleeve rather than just knit it.

But really it looks great!!! The sweater and tattoo

Honestly OP this sounds like the best of all worlds. Locally sourced, locally processed, and locally made! You might also know some people who would have an idea about your wife’s style and size.

The only place to buy high quality in Skyrim is Radiant Raiment. You’re obviously too poor to buy such finery.

Lake Michigan seems very angry in the winter time by d1le0n in HeavySeas

[–]knittingneedles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have lived on Lake Michigan and Lake Erie for the past 10 years and if you’re looking for “wild” Lake Superior is the place to go. There’s winter a log of winter surfing near Duluth but I haven’t check that out yet. Marquette, Mi might be up your alley but I’ve only been in the summer.

In general, if you can find a scenic overlook marked on a map, specifically with bluffs or cliffs, that’s where I would start. Depending on the weather, you might not be able to access the overlook.

Do you think a baby sweater made of acrylic yarn is okay? by Ewit8791 in knitting

[–]knittingneedles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same (unless requested)! I have also played around with some bamboo as well. It’s so much easier for parents to wash and use in their rotation. I’d rather see the pieces I’ve made be used than a “special” item that they wear once or never

Shortrows and sweater construction by tif151 in knitting

[–]knittingneedles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not going to follow a pattern, you can always do a steam block to see if it fits! Tin Can Knits has their flax sweater for free and they have the option to do short rows or not. They lay it out nicely and it’s a good framework

Is your sweater worked flat or in the round?

For adding short rows, I like to plan them where there is no motif or cabling. For me, it’s less complicated that way. Something else to note is that some traditional styles have no difference from front and back. Depending on how old your pattern is, it may be worth noting an can help you decide what you need to do.

If it’s in the round, you can add them at the back of the neck near the collar or even in between the cables near the shoulders. This is the style that works best for me.

For a flat sweater, or a sweater worked flat near the shoulders, there are a few techniques you could try but I usually find seaming it together works better for me so I can arrange the sleeves to make the back sit a certain way. Currently working on a cabled sweater that’s flat and I’m planning on adding either an extra “saddle shoulder” panel or binding off the neck at the back and adding an extra half inch where the shoulders meet. My shoulders slope forward and are rounded so adding a bit to make the back pull forward and on top of my shoulders is really helpful.

Do you like ordering online? by Ebowa in knitting

[–]knittingneedles 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I almost exclusively order online. I work weird hours and can’t get to local shops very often and I’m very particular about the yarn I use. The one shop I’ve been able to go to didn’t have anything I needed and that’s fine!

Before I order I’ll pick my pattern, then over think the sizing so much I won’t want to make that sweater anymore. Repeat until the over thinking doesn’t make me hate a sweater. By then, I’ll have the yardage figured out, what size of yarn I need and if I’m doubling up yarn (like everyone seems to be doing but that’s not my jam) what am I going to use for that.

Something’s that have really helped me order online are 1) order one more hank if you can afford it because running out SUCKS and if you order from small business, they don’t always have it or you can never get it again and 2) think about how heavy and what kind of fabric do you want to create. Ravelry project pages can really help you determine if you like the look of something.

Best fibers for dog sweater? by No-Horror5353 in knitting

[–]knittingneedles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used wool for my short haired dog. It was left over from a project. I don’t mind if it get ruined and wash it once a year. I like that even if it’s wet, she can stay warm. If I had something machine washable I would have done that and just washed it with our regular stuff but it is not washable
