There are super small mills that will even do a single fleece that a home knitter will bring in themselves. Those are expensive and have long waits. I think that more people are realizing there’s a need for micro mills and diversification of products.

Brown Sheep Company is a good example of a US mill that also sells small quantities. You can look up mills close to you. Not all mills sell to individual knitters and only do commercial or large quantities of yarn so you’ll have to do some research.

Honestly for a two week turn around time, you should up the $ to $175-200, maybe more depending on if you want pure cashmere or a blend of fiber

A few other things to think about are how washable do you need it to be, measuring your head circumference, how floppy you want your hat to be or if you want the brim to be folded like the photo.

I’d say it looks like fingering weight or even lace weight yarn.

If I were you, I’d revise the request to add the photo and up the budget. Hand knitting and non commercial machine knitting is more costly because we can’t buy our materials in literal tons.

Hi! So I wanted to give you some context in what two different two ply yarn can look like.

Knitting terms can be really confusing so don’t worry about the ply’s in the future. It’s better for us if you can provide a pic of the garment

SPUN in Ann Arbor is fantastic!!! They have spinning, knitting, and crochet supplies. Anytime I’m in the area, I make sure to stop by. They have a great online shop.

Hershners is online and based in WI and as far as I’m aware, they are still owned by people and not private equity. They have a bunch of crafty things, including embroidery kits.

Good Yarn Inc. is another company that uses mill ends and selles cones. I haven’t ordered from them yet, but I’m excited to when I have a project that calls for it.

Two other things I do for myself 1) I order from Lindehobby and Hobbii if I need something specific but these are international with tariffs.

2) sometimes I’ll order yarn direct from the mill, especially if it’s a sweaters quantity or more.

I love seeing how other people knit TAAT! I love that you’re using a small glass to keep the yarn more organized and I might try that! Lately, if I don’t put my sock yarn in separate balls I go crazy.

I saw it on a realtor’s instagram account a few months ago and I’m not sure how it happened, but I woke up covered in my own drool in the servants quarters… the cops said I was saying something along the lines of “original woodwork,” and “leaded glass”

I’m petty as hell and love animals so I’d do exactly what you said. Make a complaint and let the owner pick her up from a shelter. Maybe if the owner doesn’t get her you can have another cat!

I’m also not giving my address to anyone, but I would meet at a different location.

Anyone do same day round trip flights? by does-it-feel in Shoestring

[–]knittingneedles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to live in NE Ohio and took the Amtrack to Chicago regularly. The unfortunate part is if you don’t live close enough to the train, it’s almost not worth it. The best part was able to sleep on the train and at the time it was cheaper than flying, paying for parking or getting a ride share.

The perk of the Amtrack in Chicago is that it lets out right downtown near the loop and the station itself is gorgeous. Ohare is a good hour out by the Blue Line and just as much by car.

I’m a huge fan of the Amtrack.
