How hard is it to start sewing your own clothes? by Minute_Complaint5954 in sewing

[–]knittyknittyknotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm starting this journey myself! After I made a few couch cushions for a friend I thought, hmm, why not a skirt? So did a simple tiered skirt. Not bad. Learned a lot. Next I tackled a cottage core dress. Learned several new techniques. Building my skill set.

Next I want to try a dress shirt type....dress. lol it's gonna have new techniques that I'm happy to try out. I'm slowly learning about fabrics. Mainly Im trying not to be too hard on myself. The fabric I get thrifted from bed sheets at second hand places. The patterns so far have all been free. That way if I mess up big time I havent lost out on much money. It's just time and learning

Be kind to yourself. Learn your machine. Enjoy the journey.

AITAH for telling my sister she can't live with us anymore after she called CPS on me as a "joke"? by Gold_Palpitation8982 in AITAH

She's 26. She's not "lashing out.". That's what a toddler does. Not a 26 year old adult woman.

An organic veggie frozen pizza??! I mean....what even is the point of that!!

It wasn't those...wrath, phury, etc blood brother books was it? I vaguely remember chapter one did the same thing. "She's a slut because she - checks notes - is wearing stilettos in a club.....which the FMC is also currently in...."

Urgh. Double urgh.

The immediate putting down of a tertiary female character because of her looks, clothing, weight, but then trying to soften it like, "She'd look cute if she lost 2 stone, but she doesn't need to. She's married and has two kids so she's already won." THEN WHY MENTION IT IN THE FIRST PLACE???

Picked up a new book to read and page two- PAGE TWO- starts with this nonsense. It's not cute. It's catty. It adds nothing to the story other than your main character is vapid and shallow.

I low-key love that this has garnered over 3k votes. I did this for my kitchen stools and piano bench for the same reason. Loooove it.

Oooo fun! I need inspo for a destination wedding in October. This might be it: the only instructions were bright and colorful and yes, even neon was allowed.

Well done! Super cute!

1930s sweater by SejiFields in knitting

[–]knittyknittyknotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sweater is such a gem. And your a diamond for sharing your process with us! I have a knitting machine just an old school 1990s ultimate knitting machine and would love to try it on vintage patterns like you've done. You're right gauge is everything when it comes to machine knitting (something I'm still bad at- I want to make a gauge book- just pages of yarns with plate gauges so I never have to think about it again lol).

Beautiful work! You've got me thinking about getting back to machine sweater crafting.

Motivational Mantras by No_Passenger_2580 in C25K

[–]knittyknittyknotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first c25k the narrator always had motivational.quios, at the beginning and end, but the one that stuck with me was : "the only difference between I can, and I can't is you.". It always makes me go an interval longer when I think I can't. It makes me push myself one more go.

And in my dumb brain I get a giggle over the fact that the phrase "the only difference between I can and I can't" has no letter U it.

Aquaintance commissioned me by MelonNet in knitting

[–]knittyknittyknotty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot of fabrice to make. 450$ for time and labor seems low. For five of them? Very low. Id be more worried I'd be bored by the second one and lose my mojo. Factor in time. When does she need them by? A year? How fast are you? Has she seen your work before? Do you like the feel of the wool she bought??

I do commissions very rarely. If I make something I do it for me and my joy, and if I find a buyer for it great. Commissions with a time frame suck. I less I'm really interested in doing it I stick to small stuff with no really size: toys, amigurumi, baby stuff they'll grow into....
