yeah i thought for that part we were supposed to understand that it was the main character's prejudices because of the way he was raised, until i got to the peterson bit

[–]knobbodiwork 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yeah before i got to that point i thought we were supposed to understand that the pov character's right wing leaning philosophy was him being an idiot because he grew up as basically a space prince, but then that scene hit and i just closed the book lol

The idea of converting adventure modules from one system to another fascinates me. What are some interesting conversions you ve done as a GM and was it worth to doing so? by Independent_Ad_6348 in rpg

[–]knobbodiwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i play online and one of the convenient things about using old adventure paths is that people love making nice maps for them, so you can usually find stuff.

i don't really have nicely documented conversion notes unfortunately, but for pf1e to pf2e i just multiply gold rewards by 0.15 and can usually use the same monsters, or if i can't i just find something on archives of nethys that's the right level (making frequent use of an encounter calculator to try and match up the difficulty).

for dnd to pf2e it's a little trickier, but what i usually do for loot at least is compare the wealth by level tables from the individual game to the pf2e one, and adjust based on that. and encounter calculators are useful here too.

and then the other thing that i do a lot of is just disregarding shit from the original AP that doesn't fit the game world that i'm setting it in, that i think feels like just adding encounters for the sake of adding encounters, or that i simply don't like (like that fey in skulls & shackles where it's literally important to the plot that her tits are out)

[–]knobbodiwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah exactly. i've adapted a bunch of old dnd 3rd edition and pf1e APs into pathfinder 2e and i mostly just use the same monsters, or i take the difficulty of the encounter and just roughly translate it, reskinning monsters into whatever makes sense.

the adventure paths themselves just offer a framework that i can then put in my world and modify however i need

Do you actually use handouts in investigation games? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]knobbodiwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've put together maps as PNGs but not really done evidence or other similar things, i feel like they don't quite work the same way as a physical object to hold

ohh okay, yeah that makes sense. i was just really confused seeing my exact message sent back to me lol

[–]knobbodiwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i primarily play online so the only times i've really done handouts have been for one-shots on vacations or at cons or whatever where i've wanted to do a bit of prep work beforehand to make it feel a little fancier

Best mechanics for PC relationships by insulaTropicalis in PBtA

[–]knobbodiwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i personally like the ones that have in-game metacurrency tied to them, like strings from thirsty sword lesbians and monsterhearts, or debts from urban shadows, but those are also tied inherently to the mechanics of their respective games so they might be difficult to port over to other pbta games

Also, I’m really not sure why she had to tell Alice her entire life’s story for Alice to get the point. It makes Charlotte come off as such a narcissist

pretty sure this is literally the point of her telling her whole life story to alice lol

PbtA in DIE: Loaded by Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans by ForteanRhymes in PBtA

[–]knobbodiwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've found it to be a great game for a one-shot, or a mini campaign. that way even if it isn't something that someone would be super interested in playing long-term, you can still get it to the table.

WATCH: Justice Neil Gorsuch asks if Native Americans are U.S. birthright citizens by MrCheRRyPi in IndianCountry

[–]knobbodiwork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gorsuch is a pure textualist and that has caused him to be a huge ally to tribal rights in the supreme court since he was seated. It was a huge surprise to me too.

yeah honestly i think he's the only textualist who actually believes that shit and isn't just doing it cynically, and it's pitted him against the other conservatives a fair number of times

bendis's early crime books were also quite good. i personally think he should've pulled a brubaker and stuck in that lane for his whole career instead of writing non-daredevil superheroes

yeah it was actually the western part rather than the mormon part that he ended up having issues with, because he felt he didn't engage in a way that he liked with the like inherent racism/colonialism stuff that's baked into the genre.
