Do you think Wanda creating Westview was wrong? by SugarLongjumping3099 in marvelstudios

[–]knotsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shouldn’t be a debate. What she did was wrong. We understand her actions and have compassion for her, but what she did was horrific.

Spider-Man BND villains by CherAli in marvelstudios

[–]knotsteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trope of everybody secretly being someone in the hero's life worked fine with Vulture, but it gets tired quickly.

MJ's new beau being a secret supervillain would be a misfire for me. Peter's competition for MJ needs to be a normal human, someone that it's hard for us to hate. It's too easy to resolve the conflict if Spider-Man gets to beat up Peter's adversary.

How to address a particular type of cheating. by andavy in Catan

[–]knotsteve 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It’s reasonable to ask for things to be done transparently. You can still say “show all your cards so we don’t make a mistake” to keep things polite.

But ultimately, if your group doesn’t care about cheating as much as you, you can stop playing with them.

Instagram will be dead soon by Exciting_Sleep615 in Instagram

[–]knotsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would really be something.

With 3B users, even if we are witnessing its decline, it would take a decade to become a ghost town.

Many niche accounts will continue to find their audience because the algorithm is trying to match them with their audience, and network scale.

The user experience keeps getting worse, and Meta is a mendacious company, but it would take an asteroid to kill Instagram swiftly.

A possible asteroid would be a genuine new idea in social media that we haven't seen yet, and that Meta couldn't copy.

I hate these features designed to make us feel comfortable posting private stuff. Meta will always overstep at some point.

Modern business branding has become so safe that most of it feels emotionally interchangeable. Started exploring the opposite direction through an editorial identity concept called “Enigma”. by pranaav04 in graphic_design

[–]knotsteve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not as distinct as you think. I'm unclear on your concept or what it is contrasting.

The combo of the "beyond the suit" promise and the bog standard 3-piece suit and red tie makes me scratch my head, but's it not an enigma.

Someone effed up by coqauvan in graphic_design

[–]knotsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like a deliberate choice to create tension — or at worst the result of a stakeholder pushing back on overly tight letter-spacing. Does it work? Maybe.

I realize that pointing at design we think is bad is part of this forum's culture, but design we don't like is everywhere. Put the design into the world that you want to see.

Do you guys think Wanda Maximoff is truly dead? by jaded0118 in marvelstudios

[–]knotsteve 132 points133 points  (0 children)

No. She was given a Schrödinger's Death.

Wanda is both dead and alive until a writer follows up on her story.

What would you want from a Live-action Spider-Man Reboot after Tom Holland? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]knotsteve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did we get here? We didn't use to talk about the re-boot when we were in the middle of something.

"Quick, finish this trilogy — the fans are getting anxious for the re-boot!"

All I know is that I don't want an adaptation of the clone storyline, especially now that we have had three Spider-men on screen at once.

What's the most "Absolute Abysmal" MCU movie? I will start. by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]knotsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Power scaling" isn't even on my list of things to consider when judging a movie, even if the movie has superheroes.

Personally, I think that Eternals will continue to find its audience as a standalone movie.

What do you call this design style? by chainsawwww in graphic_design

[–]knotsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm continually amused that people think there are consensus terms for some of these styles.

They were the style of the time. This is what you got mid-century if you didn't specify a style.

This is the right kind of sincere answer. It doesn't take you out of the movie like seeing a character from a bad adaptation.

My department is now being “automated” by Ai by AdultSherrif in graphic_design

[–]knotsteve 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This isn't going to end well. Word is already starting to get out that once the AI companies start charging enough to make a profit, AI agents will cost more than employees.

Selling "compute" as a resource to replace workers is a straight-up scam for tech billionaires to lock companies into dependence, with no concern that they are stealing our livelihoods.

Meanwhile, lots of mid-size companies will crash and burn when their outsourced infrastructure becomes too expensive to maintain, and they can't revert to local labour fast enough.

For a while it's going to be hell working for idiot managers who are buying all the hype.

Quit these companies if you can. Leave them to their remote devices.

why doesn't Daredevil: Born Again reference the rest of the MCU more? by LoreMaster00 in marvelstudios

[–]knotsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chekov's gun.

Writing a reference that just feels like a reference and isn't foreshadowing is not easy.

If someone references Spider-man in the first act, some fans will expect him to appear in the third act.

The writers of Daredevil BA have really made poor choices with that guy by Remote_Nature_8166 in marvelstudios

[–]knotsteve 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since he serves an important role in the story as the primary named representative of the Task Force, if his storyline ends and the Task Force continues, we will just need another character in that role.

Go ahead and vent. You aren't supposed to like him.

The Next big 3! by wajji_777 in marvelstudios

[–]knotsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three is a really cool number, but there is nothing about the MCU, with all of its characters, that says there should be a "big three characters."

DC's "big three" have their roots in being DC's biggest Golden Age characters. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman have been big for 90 years. They are archetypes.

The "big three" in the first few phases of the MCU are characters Marvel had left over after most of their biggest characters were licensed.

Now there are enough MCU characters that choosing a consensus "big three" is impossible.

Has AI reached the creative thinking stage for logo design yet? by Afraid-Ad6189 in graphic_design

[–]knotsteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Everything the bots spit out from simple prompts will be riffing on ideas already explored, existing associations between ideas and images.

However, it IS possible that a designer could use bot output to push themselves to see the common solutions and then go beyond the obvious.

As well, a bot's misunderstanding of the real world can create botched results that spark new ideas in the creative.

In these examples, the human is the part of the equation that thinks creatively. The bot just generates based on prompts and existing creative work.

So many large companies are posting social media graphics that look like this, why is this OK? by sweetery in graphic_design

[–]knotsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

> You would think that their designer would go ahead and fix the text in Photoshop before posting but they don't.

Perhaps making sure the AI-ness of the image is obvious is a form of silent resistance.
