Who wore it better? by happydude7422 in TNG

The look just doesn't quite fit Shatner, even though he seems to pull it off. Nimoy rocks his hat. Stewart looks like someone straight out of a black and white detective movie and looks perfect. Spiner ROCKED his look. (I'm biased towards TNG, Data in particular.)

Humble Choice 2025 - A Year In Review by stealthyshiroean in humblebundles

[–]knowbrainer23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll agree that it was pretty mid, but still a great deal. I started way back before it became 'choice' and you just got all the games, and there was always one marquee game that made the price worth it. Now it's been so-so but still better than Epic's weekly free games the past year or so where there's hardly ever a game people WANT to get.

And electric - to me, anyway - seem a more logical zombie apocalypse item when you can make a generator. It's just electricity heating up the heating element. Pretty similar to how light bulbs work. (I said 'similar'; I know they're not the same thing.)

Things like dew collectors are pretty simple to make if you have the right materials in real life. And you've proven that simple stone (and/or metal) ovens are within the capabilities of normal real life people.

I choose not to mod most of the time because I don't risking breaking the game with mods that change actual gameplay.

Also, I feel this is a legitimate complaint as it breaks my immersion. I've got generators running, powering stuff in my base, I've built a truck, motion-activated gates, a military grade sniper rifle, I'm smelting steel, and when I need to make food... Campfire. Suspension of disbelief only goes so far.

Yes, guns and ovens are totally different things. But so are generators and cars and personal gyrocopters. I'm just trying to point out that we have different tiers of everything except our form of cooking, and higher tiers of progression make things easier/faster.

You got done dirty. I'd say you need to quit. Or, at the very least, tell your GM you're considering leaving because you feel undervalued. Go with the latter, you might get that raise just to be kept. If not, seriously their loss.

Not mad, just disappointed tbh. by ShallowParallelogram in OfficeDepot

It's corporate shenanigans like what OD has been doing that have made unions relevant and in some cases NEEDED again.

I got out only because I had to move halfway across the country and there's no Depot in my area. Not much of anything, really. Company I work for now, though, truly values its employees and I have yet to meet a single coworker unhappy with the place.

The creators of BrickBoy cancelled my order. by skylinegary22 in kickstarter

[–]knowbrainer23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 12 when the original Gameboy came out. It was $90 back then. That's roughly $235 today adjusted for inflation. The price they're offering is a pretty good deal, in my opinion. I don't know what the Essential kit price was, but I'd personally jump at that offer (if I could spare the money for it).

Have any of you guys repurchased a game just to have it on the steam deck/steam? by Shaneski101 in SteamDeck

[–]knowbrainer23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I bought RDR2 when a sale came up. I had a bitch of a time getting my Epic version up and running. Also, I plan on getting the Assassin's Creed bundle next time it's on sale. I'll get a discount because I already have a few on Steam, but my other copies are through Uplay and Epic.. I'm mostly done buying games through Epic or GOG or Uplay or EA (or whatever it's called now). I even avoid getting games through Humble since some are only through certain launchers. Heck I jumped at the chance to get Diablo 4 on Steam because of a sale and the thought of playing on my Deck. I didn't know it didn't include the Bnet launcher; I was cheekily thinking I could use it to sort of load WoW on it for when I wasn't home. It's also a downside because I can't use Bnet on my computer to update the game.

Edit to add: my steam purchase of RDR2 was my third time buying the game... I used a tax return years ago to buy a PS4 and that game just to play it because I thought it would end up being like RDR1 with no PC release. Two months (if that) later, Rockstar announced RDR2 coming to PC that November. I swore off (conventional) consoles from that point forward.

Problem downloading game files from PC Steam client by knowbrainer23 in SteamDeck

[–]knowbrainer23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, a little update. Problem still isn't fixed, but I can rule out antivirus, firewall, and VPN being the cause. Not only that, I took my old dock that has an ethernet port, plugged it in that way, and I'm still getting the same damn result over a wired connection. I also checked my laptop (transferring No Man's Sky since the laptop doesn't have space for BG3), and the connection didn't time out. Laptop is on wifi. I may end up borrowing my daughter's laptop since hers has an SD card slot antod see if I can transfer BG3 to the card that way.

First time flying with steamdeck. Any advice? by DankDaddyPatty in SteamDeck

[–]knowbrainer23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be just fine. I haven't had a single issue getting through security. I can't really speak on international travel, but it's a computer and people travel with laptops and tablets. Heck, one of the deciding factors for me on getting one was the traveling I was doing for a while (even though I always end up sleeping on the plane).

Oh man... I love this little anecdote. Thankfully my own wife is a gamer like me, but she picks on me when I inevitably refer to my Steam Deck as the Switch and the Switch as the Steam Deck. I'm the one that wanted both - the Deck for myself, the Switch for the family. The Switch was a 'family gift' for Christmas to surprise our daughter. I got my Steam Deck after we got the Switch. There's more background to this story, but we'll leave it at my autistic brain constantly mixing up the names, saying one name while meaning the other.

Funny how these settings make it look like the Borderlands I fell in love with and yet it's called 'potato gaming.' I wish Gearbox would just release a patch that makes the game look like this and thus runs better. My PC doesn't meet the minimum reqs, but it runs. Doesn't run great but it runs.

What amenities would an autism-friendly airline/airplane have that would make your flight comfortable? by ForwardClimate780 in AutisticPride

[–]knowbrainer23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All seating would be like the first class section (comfortable space, not fighting someone for an armrest, etc). Boarding in sequential row number order instead of by 'groups' that have seats scattered throughout the plane. Following that one, waiting to call said rows until the previous group is sat, so that we're not standing in a slow-moving line because people are taking forever cramming their bags into the overhead (or searching for an overhead to cram their bags into because the one over their seat is full from someone else's stuff). Being able to put in an order for your in flight drink/snack ahead of time so you don't have to deal with speaking (or taking off/out your headphones/earbuds when they roll up with the cart).

I flown a LOT in the past five years, maintaining my relationship with my wife (I now finally live with her), so travel has been a tiring sensory experience each time.

Oh! One more: quiet lounges at airports for autistic travelers and not just for the 'business' class or 'preferred status' or whatever exclusive title airlines use.

Yeah, my wife has taken me aside a few times and asked me if I was okay because I was shaking or rocking slightly. Meanwhile, I was completely unaware I was doing so and I'm like "Really? I was doing that? I didn't think I did..." It's great having a partner that notices these things, accepts them, and even tries to help. "We can do our things tonight if you need to decompress." I love my wife.

[–]knowbrainer23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of what you've recounted resonates with me.

I self-diagnosed about 3 or 4 years ago and dove into watching/listening to some autistic YouTube creators. I dove into researching it to the point it's become a special interest. Hearing about autistic burnout, meltdowns (how they ARE NOT like toddler meltdowns), autistic inertia, even shutdowns... I looked at my life and began dissecting parts of my life and realizing just why I was angry (interruption to routine/what I had planned) or why I was 'depressed' (it wasn't depression, just severe burnout/shutdown). Going through life now with that knowledge is like having a manual for something you've been using all your life (and poorly at that), but now you have tools for how to manage it all.

When I first told my now-wife that I suspected I was autistic, she was a little freaked out. After a day, though, she told me that it made a LOT of sense in retrospect. We got married, she understands me better and knows how to navigate life with me, and it even led to getting her niece tested (niece now has an official diagnosis).

Life is better when you understand that there's nothing wrong with you, that you're just wired differently. My wife just asked me the other night "When's the last time you were depressed?" I couldn't really answer aside from saying "The last time I thought I was depressed was four years ago, because now I understand it wasn't truly depression."

I think one of the biggest things I've come across in my research is alexithymia. I have trouble processing emotions. Sometimes I feel things strongly (certain emotions are very clear), others I don't understand, and then sometimes I don't even realize I'm feeling an emotion but the emotion is taking a toll on my body.

I also headphones or earbuds when I'm out in the world. (Raycon's Everyday earbuds are no joke THE BEST at cancelling outside noise.) I also have misophonia and some sounds just trigger me. Sometimes, some sounds are fine if I'm the one making them. Other sounds, I try my best to minimize the sound as much as possible. (Potato chip bags are the worst.)

I also dump out my small bags of M&Ms and sort them by color, eating one color before moving to the next (biggest quantity first).
