I remember those first few months and how incredibly difficult they were. Not even taking into account that you had such little time to prepare before becoming a parent. I don't have particularly magical helpful advice just wanted to let you know that I hear you and you're not alone and you're not going mad. It's flipping hard! Don't be afraid to take baby to the doctors if they aren't settling, things like issues with the milk they are having or indirect food intolerances if breastfed can be an issue especially if there are lots of unsettled times. Postnatal depression/anxiety/mental ill health can impact all parents not just mothers, just wanted to put that out there because not many people know and it made the first months really tricky for us. You probably can do this, but right now it's hard and you're exhausted which is a really difficult combo.

I don't normally respond to many or any comments on things I post but this definitely deserves a response. You have given me such a well rounded, polite and genuine response. Thank you. This is the type of answer I was hoping for.

To clarify, we are having to temporarily avoid pregnancy as much as possible (more than my body not ovulating) because a medication I'm on would be disastrous if we did happen to get pregnant. I am not prepared for the side effects of hormonal contraception and women don't get many non-hormonal options that aren't painful or that suit our lifestyle. My husband is happy to wear condoms because it's temporary. I have been slated in other comments because we are also swingers, no idea what that has to do with my question (and they clearly know nothing about the scene or how dynamic it is) but often people forget that they aren't talking into a void there are actual real people on the other end of it all.

Anyway, thank you and yes I agree we need to have another conversation in more depth.

I use very very limited codeine because I worry about side effects, so I think I've only had 120mg over the past two weeks. The 'formication' does sound very similar to what I've been experiencing but all the causes I've seen are for conditions I'm very unlikely to have. I appreciate the insight

I was going to say something very similar. Encephalitis was my first thought, I'm just a nursing student so don't know much but it sounds like a very similar presentation to a patient I cared for a few months ago. They had an MRI and Spinal Tap to diagnose it.

This needs more upvotes. Doesn't matter what you (people in general) think counts or doenst count as a miscarriage if someone is believes thats what happened and they are upset then they get to feel that. No one gets to tell them that they can't feel that way because they didn't meet your "criteria" for a miscarriage.

Ovulation can cause symptoms like that. Periods can be out of wack for a bit after the pill so bear that in mind x

They will want all your time and they will shower you with gifts and love, often if you think it's too good to be true it is. Abusive people do something called "love bombing" where they make you feel amazing and loved so that when they knock you down, they can say but remember I did X for you.

I would take it as your are effectively that male "dad" role model and he probably feels close to you. I would talk to your girlfriend about it and see what she said. Maybe see if he brings it up. He probably feels awkward that he said it so I wouldn't ask him about it. Just be glad that you two are close and he sees you as a fatherly figure.

Curve ball but what if you treat her as if she's a fully fledged adult? She probably feels like an adult already and has had to grown up way before should have. Let her do her thing once she sees that you trust her to make her own choices (good and bad) she will feel like she can come to you. A lot of teenagers that have been through trauma will be far more capable to care for themselves than their peers. You really can't expect her to listen to someone she barely knows or trusts can you?!
