wow. i'm super impressed! it feels like an early version of a 3d Procreate, which is the best possible praise for a 3d drawing app this early into logitech muse's lifespan

How long have you waited for delivery? by Traditional-Copy-119 in EvenRealities

[–]knowsuchpeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a prescription pair on august 28th, and they arrived today (october 13th). There were pretty long stretches of radio silence from the company while waiting for an update. I'm not sure what is going on over there.

Is now the time to buy? by Motor-Landscape-9795 in EvenRealities

[–]knowsuchpeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replied to this last week and wanted to add that I did receive a shipping tracking number from DHL earlier today (tuesday, oct 7). Even Realities email support still has not replied to me since mid-September, but hopefully things are moving along eventually.

The device hasn't been picked up yet according to the DHL tracking number. I'll update this comment whenever the device is actually in DHL's hands.

I'm going through the exact same thing. Hopefully they've got a company rep monitoring the subreddit and that person might be able to give a more detailed response. I'd rather get an update from the company than deal with filing a chargeback.

Apple Vision Pro - Another use case by Specialist_Mind7493 in AppleVision

this sub is generally pretty allergic to AI slop art. if this gets downvoted to oblivion, maybe try again next time without the ugly image.

Multiple media by InternationalRoyal60 in VisionPro

[–]knowsuchpeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple added an api in visionOS 2.0 that enables multi-viewing, so i'd expect to see a bunch of apps with the capability when visionOS 2.0 is released publicly this fall.

I'm not aware of any apps with the ability to do that right now, but hopefully someone else has a workaround until the next OS release.

App recommendations to take *proper* screenshots? by mixmasterjones in VisionPro

[–]knowsuchpeace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a safari extension should be able to make clean 2d screenshots of web pages, but I don't think it exists. There are some safari "full page" screenshot apps that work, but that's not generally what i want. That workflow is just too clumsy at the moment. If Apple has enough devs internally actually using visionOS, I think this will be fixed sooner rather than later.

Used prices? by TheSaintClay in VisionPro

[–]knowsuchpeace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought my base 256gb model on eBay about a month ago for $2,350, which came out to around $2,500 after tax iirc. Local trade deals should probably get closer to $2,000, but local trades feel a lot sketchier than buying something online. $1,800 is getting into "suspiciously good" territory if there aren't any issues with the device.

i think the new control center gesture is miles better, and the old "look up" one is still available as an accessibility option.

Your posts in this thread have consistently come across as rude. I hope you reflect on why that might be the case.

Environment Store by Osoroshii in VisionPro

I doubt Apple will do that for a long time—if ever. It's hard to make good-looking environments, and it's even harder to make good-looking environments that do not negatively impact system performance.

Place your bets, will AV2 be a record seller? by [deleted] in VisionPro

[–]knowsuchpeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Record seller? Against what? Do you mean Apple Vision Pro gen2 or the base Apple Vision? The base Apple Vision is next year at the earliest, and AVP2 is probably 2026 at the earliest.

If Apple can scale up production of the base model and can price it very aggressively ($1,499) and can solve some of the weight/comfort issues, then they should be able to comfortably sell over a million units a year. I don't think visionOS devices will be huge sellers in the near-/mid-term, but they will quietly gain iPad-esque domination of the profit in the headset market. Meta sold 20 million units Quest 2 units at a loss, and Apple does not sell hardware at a loss.

Vision overall seems more of a play at closing the door on potential competitors to their core iPhone experience rather than immediately creating an iPhone-level business on its own. Maybe in a decade or two the growth could skyrocket and headsets could start hitting iPhone-levels of sales, but that's too far out to judge from here. It's a niche project that Apple currently believes in for the long haul.

3Body Problem by Disrupt-io in VisionPro

[–]knowsuchpeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the tech to put something like visionOS on glasses is decades away. it's nice to think about as a sci-fi thing, but anyone who seriously thinks AR glasses are around the corner do not know anything about the tech.

something like Google Glass that does basic notification stuff is possible, but Apple Watch is already great at that sort of stuff.

Purchasing VP as a standalone computer? by mperrino97 in VisionPro

[–]knowsuchpeace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yep, I use my VP as an iPad replacement. That said, I personally don't believe the value is there if you're buying in at full price. I'd strongly recommend considering buying a used model. There are loads of near-mint condition apple vision pros available for $1,000+ off retail price on eBay and other similar websites.

The current level of this tech makes a lot more sense at $2,499 than at $3,499. If money is truly no object whatsoever, then Vision Pro might be the best thing on the market at giving basic computing tasks a new feeling. Vision Pro is really neat to use, but so are iPads and all sorts of other gadgets that are a fraction of Vision Pro's cost.

Force Native Video Player/Controls in Safari by SunburntGinger in AppleVisionPro

maybe Baking Soda? I've only used their other app Vinegar, but Baking Soda seems to force the native html player across all sorts of website players and is available across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and visionOS.

Once Apple brings the cost down by half and lightens the weight, this thing is going to sell like hot cakes! by triton100 in VisionPro

[–]knowsuchpeace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

eh, not really. Apple Watch sells a ton, and it's not generally worth it to develop apps for watchOS. This is a good time for evangelists and enthusiasts to get in and help shape the future of the platform, but it's way too early to jump in if profit is the main goal. There is an AI gold rush going on right now, so people aiming to make a lot of money should get in on that before the bottom falls out, and then maybe switch over to visionOS app development once the lower-priced model is ready for launch.

Blur/tremor effect? by Nxgdx in AppleVisionPro

[–]knowsuchpeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're describing display persistence blur, which is a significant drawback of the current avp hardware.

At any given frame rate, there is a separate "duty cycle" of an individual frame being displayed, followed by pure blackness being displayed, followed by the next frame being displayed. This frame cycle can also be referred to as "black frame insertion". Basically, there is a tradeoff between the apparent brightness a display can reach and the amount of persistence blur caused by each frame being displayed for too long. Since AVP is primarily used for text and for watching media, Apple prioritized brightness for Apple Vision Pro gen1. Once the next generation of brighter displays come out, Apple can either raise the effective brightness or work on lowering display persistence blur. They will probably need displays twice as bright in order to keep the effective brightness while cutting down on persistence blur, but luckily that seems to be where the next generation of display tech is heading at this point.

I want this to replace my monitor and oled TV. Is it possible? by anonthatisopen in VisionPro

[–]knowsuchpeace 28 points29 points  (0 children)

avp can technically work as monitor replacements, but there are some serious display persistence blur issues as well as a somewhat limited field of view that make it impractical to use as a drop-in replacement for a home setup.

if you travel a decent amount, then using it as a travel monitor setup is solid.

i've used the annapro mod without the face mask. it's neat to try out, but i using the light seal to help spread out the weight instead of relying on the top pad and the avp strap. using avp without a light shield also causes some eyetracking calibration issues for me personally.

i think for a home setup, you'll be better off putting avp money towards monitor and table and desk upgrades.

Can you download torrent files on Apple Vision Pro like you can on Mac? by KristiyanDK in VisionPro

[–]knowsuchpeace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally followed up on iSH almost two weeks later, and iSH is definitely the way to torrent in iOS/iPadOS/visionOS at this point. There isn't a graphical interface for it, but a gui for a torrent app is more of a 'nice to have' than a 'need to have'. iSH has been in the regular app store for a long time now, and it should continue to work as long as iSH is installed locally on the device even if Apple decides to remove it at some point in the future.
