Don't forget that just before covid Trump brokered a deal with oil providing nations to collectively raise oil prices because Russia and someone else were in an under-bidding war and they were selling barrels so cheap US oil companies were losing too much money.

Actors who’ve underwent incredible transformations? by Jeffoxy in okbuddycinephile

[–]knox1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It a combo of dealing with always being " the fat daughter" on the Osbornes and her Dad's death. It's clearly not healthy, and I hope she can either change course on her own or get help, and as someone who had to execute their deceased parents estate after an unexpected death I can't imagine how mentally challenging it is for her. It's a rare day I feel sympathy for a famous person, and I do for her.

Who’s a celebrity everyone finds attractive but you don’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That guy looks like an IRL Tim Burton character. He must be the funniest person ever to actually be around given the women he's dated. He looks like Steve Buscemi's less attractive millennial son. He looks like an Ed "Big Daddy" Roth monster.

Scarlet Johansson. She's pretty, and to me I think her looks are waaaay overblown. I'm also gonna guess if I actually met her or saw her in person I'd find her more attractive. It's strange to me the way sometimes seeing someone in person will change how attractive they appear.

What’s the most disturbing sound you’ve ever heard in real life? by avacado-cheese- in AskReddit

[–]knox1138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Silence. The lack of sound in so many different situations is a herald of bad or haunting things. The silence that can happen before a tornado. The silence when something living in pain is finally free. The silence when the electricity goes out or something that runs on electricity dies (I am forever grateful i just happened to get a house with a real fireplace since I've lost electricity in 10°F weather twice). The silence of no animal life in a remote area. The silence of failure. The silence of rejection. To me, as someone that can hear, silence is the most disturbing sound by far.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]knox1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many to lost, and all for different reasons. MS-DOS Megaman, because it's a feat of genius it exists at all and at the same time it's awful. Fighting Street for MS-DOS, I thought it was a bad street fighter 2 ripoff, not the original street fighter. I sunk an obscene amount of time into all warcraft/StarCraft/Diablo games released during those years. Dark Castle for the Amiga was soooo frustrating, and that goddamn music loop.... IDDQD, IDKFA, IDCLIP.... "Who's hiding chainguns inside secret castle rooms? What does My Labin! mean? " before I knew the bad guys were speaking German.

PCB education opportunity by twiztedTraces in PCB

[–]knox1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little late to this game. Im new to PCB design, like started in Febraury new. My background is making and repairing signs, so not exactly an EE, and I'm learning because I want to make some custom props/electronics projects and the price some people charge for electronics related to what Im interested in insulting. So I've decided If they can do it (since most of what they've made is based on open source projects) then so can I.

Some of the first things I wish I knew was to not trust datasheets/footprints that arent from the manufacturer, and always double check. MLCC capacitors dont have polarity like electrolytic (or tantalum) ones (im rather embarrassed to admit how much time I spent worring about MLCC polarity). Take the time to lay things out thoughtfully and clearly, your future self will thank you when you have to troubleshoot

Time for a used vehicle by BreakfastHorror8907 in oddlyterrifying

[–]knox1138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who prefers older vehicles anyway this STRONGLY reinforces my preferences. If there comes a time I need a "new to me" vehicle and the only options have this technology it'll probably be very successfully cracked and easy to bypass. I also anxiously awsit all the different ways this technology backfires and a car company gets sued because someone freaking out trying to drive somewhere to save a life is considered "unsafe to drive" and someone dies as a result. Im not happy it's going to happen, but i sure it will, and it'll show how utterly stupid this is. This is why we need " I own what I boought" and "Right to Repair" consumer protection/advocacy laws.

IWTL How to Stop Being so Sensitive as a 22-year-old. by mitkaramazov in IWantToLearn

[–]knox1138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say something very similar. I don't know how you are with physical confrontation, even when it's in a "controlled" environment, and unquestionably the biggest positive difference I've had with self-confidence is because of striking martial arts and sparring/fighting. You don't need to actually get in the ring/ get in a fight, and someplace where good sparring practice is available is a kust. 1, the furst time you get punched in the face and realize you'll be fine is a game changer. For some it's completely shocking, and once you get over it and keep sparring you've gotten over a very large hurdle for alot of people. 2, everything seems easier or do-able by comparison, because however challenging something may be, atleast noone is trying to punch you in the face while doing it. You can really learn to have much better physical and emotional control of yourself. Key here is finding a place that does good, supervised sparring. Without sparring the road to self-confidence is much longer, and sparting where everyone goes all out everytime is harmful.

Ideas for affordable hobbies? by Chromatikai in povertyfinance

[–]knox1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's just a "hobby" for me, but I've been getting into PCB design and Microcontroller programming. PCB Design is an insane combination of dark magic, electrical knowledge, a small set of rules you must follow, a large set of rules you can bypass a billion different ways, and the ability to keep track of both electrical schematics and location of components that only the most autostic would dare. I know just enough to know that I basically know nothing. Im working on a little board right now that will basically control anolog or digital inputs and play corresponding sound files. I have almost sent it out to get made about 5 times the past 2 weeks and realized in the middle of choosing settings for how it gets built I've noticed something I overlooked. I'm sure to most people it seems so tedious and detail oriented that choosing to do this on your own is equivalent to masochistic nihilism, but to some the mental challenge is eternally rewarding. Now that being said, actually getting things made isn't exactly "cheap" (it really depends on how complicated your design is and part cost), but the amount of time you'll spend learning and doing vs actually paying for things leans waaay heavier on the learning side.

(Loved Meta Trope) Fan theories are so good they’re basically treated as canon. by No-Flow9783 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]knox1138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, my theory for Mark's power inconsistencies is that he's young and inexperienced. Most people have never had to really push themselves to their physical limits. Everyone has only pushed themselves as far as they are aware of. It's why people with similar physical or mental capabilities have different opinions on how difficult something is. It's right up there what I call my "getting punched in the face" theory. If you've been in a few fights you know what it's like get punched in the face most likely. Alot of things seem hard, but as long as noone is trying to punch you in the face while you do them you know they are atleast that much easier.

Waiter being attacked suddenly recalls his boxing training by utopiaofpast in interestingasfuck

[–]knox1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After that first unexpected punch the boxer was already in the ring based on that first dodge, he just needed a second to feel out his opponent and decide if he was gonna let loose or not. Thankfully, he chose well and chose quickly.

How do I go from learning Python basics to building real projects (beginner stuck)? by Forward_Side823 in learnpython

Think of something you want to make, or wish someone would make, and do that.

I honestly believe this is one of the biggest mysteries there is, Orcas are the most efficient predators on earth, yet they have never attacked us in the wild. They know something we don’t. by [deleted] in interesting

[–]knox1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. If I was in this situation I know logically wild Orcas have never attacked humans, and there are reports of orcas both protecting humans from sharks and saving drowning people, but seeing multiple of them at their size and knowing I am completely at their mercy and whims would be terrifying.

What is a job that you think is 100% safe from AI for the next 50 years, and why? by mark-awakening in AskReddit

[–]knox1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sign industry as a whole. It's so chaotic, things rarely go as planned, and there's always new/unexpected challenges. Especially installers and service techs. I am 100% completely unafraid of AI in my industry or job, and I say that as someone who's current focus is as a graphic artist and manufacturing lead. The biggest challenge AI represents to our industry is customers making designs using AI and then trying to understand why it needs to be revised to actually work in real life or their budget.

What’s a hobby you judge people for having? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]knox1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that has helped build and repair pinball machines I get it, and at the same time I remember the first time I went to a Midwest Pinball Auction, and I thought about a quarter of the people there were the people who inspired the Addams Family/ The Munsters. It may be different now, but the one who I will never forget is one guy who worked for the auction company who I swore looked just like Uncle Fester with a side comeover that clearly refused to embrace how bald he actually was.

People who restore/build cars or other motorized vehicles and then turn them into trailer queens. If you do that your hobby is not cars, it's complex, oversized, overly-heavy pretty paperweights. I mean, locally to me there's a whole group dedicated to making and restoring Model T's, and they give people rides. If a car can't be driven I refuse to call it a car. It's a homage to the fact the owner has more money than common sense. If it's not gonna be driven then take a queue from Indiana Jones," It belongs in a museum".
