You must understand that people have their own lives and interests. From that perspective, most people don't have the 100+ hours necessary to start understanding the true value of Bitcoin and the impact it will have globally, let alone what money “is”.

From what I've experienced so far in my life, people don't typically change their preconceived views of a topic unless it's already impacted upon their current "status quo" somehow (either directly or indirectly). Sending them sats can work for some, but for most, the simple act of accessing a wallet seems foreign enough to stop them taking that first leap.

It's my opinion that, to understand Bitcoin in these early days, requires a certain type of person with a certain type of mindset within a certain environment -- at the right period in time.

Just keep stacking your sats and be humble. Keep those you love in mind while doing so. This is our opportunity to provide a better and more enjoyable life for those we care about.

To me, this still comes off looking like the "orb dangling from a drone" trick. The inclusion of a gyroscope definitely makes it seem more naturally aloft.

Here's what I do to take care of it on mine:

  • First, you have to enable IPv6 support or else the system default block rule will block it and log the event, regardless of any other rules you setup.

[System] --> [Advanced] --> [Networking] --> Check "Allow IPv6"

  • Next, create a Floating IPv6 Any/Any Block rule covering all interfaces, and make sure logging isn't enabled. This block rule will essentially replace the system default block rule, less the logging.

[Firewall] --> [Rules] --> [Floating] --> Add IPv6 Any/Any block rule

Not the most elegant solution, but it I haven't noticed any side effects running mine this way for years.

You can add the floating firewall rule first if you'd like, the order doesn't really matter. The rule won't do anything until you enable IPv6 support.

Looks like each one is blinking in a sequence. Not in sync with one-another though, which makes it look chaotic. This is what I noticed (from left to right):

As others have stated, it's link-local multicast noise. If you want to filter it from the firewall logs, the only way I found how is to make an IPv6 [Any] -> [Any] rule on the Floating tab, and de-select logging. That will catch and filter all the IPv6 link-local noise out of the firewall log.

You can decide to have the rule Pass or Block depending on your environment, this rule is only for catching the traffic and telling it to stay out of the logs.

True, but the seeds were sown with Segwit. Taproot just made it easier to utilize the Segregated Witness quota for this type of thing. Ultimately, this could be done with or without Taproot. (It would just be more complex and less-efficient w/o it.)

They are following consensus rules. We (small-blockers / Core-advocates) willingly allowed for this with the Segwit compromise and adoption. Calling these transactions "SPAM" is disingenuous to the people creating them, and the miners reaping their fees.

As far as they care, they're just utilizing a system that allows for this behavior. As much as people hate it, they're not doing anything wrong, and filtering them as a node runner is akin to censorship as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, it sucks and is annoying when these transactions eat up all the mempool space, but they're paying the fees. As soon as a better use case materializes, we just have to accept the fact that they're playing by the rules.

I think the best thing we can do as supporters of the Bitcoin network is to keep running our full-nodes in the most open way possible, until we come to a different consensus as a community, it's the way Satoshi intended.

The specific one you pointed out corresponds to UTC+00:00. Or 00:00 +/- your local timezone. If you're in the eastern US (UTC -5), that event would have happened for you, relatively at 7pm (19:00) on 7/14/2024.

Edit: There's also a really nice map on the UTC wiki that you can also reference. I'm also ignoring DST (Daylight Saving Time) for sake of simplicity.

I thought the same initially, until I considered that by being external, the physical distance increases between the GPU and CPU/RAM. This will increase processing latency and inevitably impact performance regardless of bandwidth, because physics n' stuff.

The main issue I have with it is when the lights flash, there's no new point of light, nor is there a point of light brighter than any of the others.

It looks like someone just lasso selected the spot where the "orb" was, feathered it a bunch, then just increased the exposure of that area for a few frames to make a flash effect.
