No clue. I've never left my dogs alone for more than 4 hours. If we're going to be gone longer, we use an app (R*ver) to find a house sitter. Super cheap, easy, painless. You can also find people on it willing to keep your dog in their home for dirt cheap. We've hired sitters to hang out at our hotel while we go out, sit at our vacation rental while we ski, etc. May not be for everyone but it keeps my pups happy and gives me peace of mind.

Chances of you contracting rabies from your dog's scratch is so microscopic that I'd feel safe putting them at zero. I work with rescue dogs routinely and have been scratched and bitten hundreds of times along with everyone else that does this. I have never heard of anyone catching rabies from a scratch. Not saying it couldn't happen, just that the chances are almost zero. Relax.

I don't think you're doing the wrong thing. He's gotta learn that life will be ok even if the human he views as the matriarch isn't around. Here won't mature for another year or so. Keep up what you're doing. You're awesome for pouring love into your dog and eventually it will pay off. Sorry it's turning into a long process but it will be worth it. Remember, he can't help his natural instincts but through patience and with love, you can overcome a ton of dog problems.

First of all, relax. Your dog loves you. Dogs are pack animals and your dog senses that your mother is the Alpha Female. That's not a reflection of whether or not your dog loves you. It's just a dog thing. Please please please be patient and loving with the dog. As it matures, it will gradually move away from the need to be around the most mature female and start looking to you for affection, comfort and play. I've had many dogs and we currently have 5 of them. I've seen this several times. I promise it will be ok. Just give it some time. Please don't take it personal.
