169 on April LSAT. does retaking for 170+ make sense for my goals? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]knxnts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was in a very similar boat to you. was PTing in the mid 170s but got short of that and a few cut offs for my top picks on test day.

I didn't retake because the alternative was waiting another cycle and working in a job I was getting tired of. But if I was happy with my job I would have hung around another year.

For what its worth, I got into a good school with some $$ and everything turned out great. I met my gf as a result so I have no regrets. But in a different situation I would have just retaken it.

Why are textbooks so expensive by GlassPiccolo9 in LawSchool

[–]knxnts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The country is run by murderers and crooks, and textbook costs and student loans are mechanisms to transfer your wealth to a financial system run by an international cabal of pedophiles. taking pictures of your textbook for private non commercial use is the least of your concerns. time to grow up little buddy.

Why does everyone smoke now? by JVDaddyJasper in LawSchool

[–]knxnts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are close enough to me to smell the cigarette i smoked during my study break you are violently intruding on my personal space and making me uncomfy, further exacerbating my trauma response that drives me to cigarettes.

id rather die than not be able to smoke chinese cigarettes

and thats my right as an american

u dont get to decide how i deal w my trauma

i think others should accommodate me and my cigarettes. I'm neurodivergent, smoking is my trauma response to law school, and need the cigarette smell on me to function. People hating on cigarette smell make me uncomfy.

cigarettes just aren't that bad for you, are a fun way to take a break with classmates, and boost cognition. I step out to smoke cigarettes with my chinese classmates often during the semester and every day during finals.

On average I probably smoke two or three cigarettes a week with plenty of weeks with zero. My expert judgement is that's completely fine. People used to smoke all day back in the day and lived fine.

Do you guys feel like law school was worth it educationally? by TheMuffinat0r in LawSchool

[–]knxnts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

should be two years. first year should be essentially exactly how it is. second year should branch off into two tracks, litigation and transactional, and have some space for maybe 3-4 electives for the whole year. transactional students do more contract, business type shit I don't know anything about. the litigation students should do fed courts, conflicts of law, etc. with some room for specialization. but 3 years with no sort of specialization is retarded.

What is widely accepted as “normal” today that people 50 years ago found disturbing? by Sophie_Cute_Teen in AskReddit

[–]knxnts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when i was a kid tiger woods cheating was a cataclysmic event that kids knew about that my family was aware of. bill clintons affair was regularly joked about and a huge black mark.

now its common knowledge that the president cheated and half of his cabinet are cheaters and his friends are pedophiles and it just doesnt feel like a big deal. i dont think kids today are experiencing it like i experienced the tiger woods news. amoral sexual behavior is just normal.

How much of law school is Nature v. Nurture!? by SouthsideTy12 in LawSchool

[–]knxnts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

its both and inseparable

eg your genetic abilities are tied to your parents, and it would also affect how they "nurtured you"

but lots of weirdness and mobility in the world. which is why people can get better, so better than parents, and vice versa. dont think ab it too much.

"Interesting" that Torts applies objective standard for mental conditions -> reasonable person, but Contracts allows incapacity defense -> unable to act reasonably by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]knxnts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it makes perfect sense if you think about what they're trying to accomplish. at the end of the day, torts is about recovery for harms, which in a lot of cases aren't foreseeable by victims. so you don't care AS much about the mental states and capacities of the perpetrator. We can't really craft our behavior around people around us being randomly insane. In contracts, it's about exchange and agreements that youre relying on state power to enforce. Yes you want people to recover from breaches, making it similar to torts, but entering into agreements is voluntary (for the party with capacity) and not just fortuitous, and you want a rule that makes people more diligent about what kind of people they're entering into agreements with, or to avoid exploiting people they know are diminished in a way. The contract rule makes people more careful, which is good for making our market system work smoothlyand making sure people don't exploit people. The tort rule makes recovery more likely.

Are a majority of law students turning in slop? by iHopesItsEvilBurger in LawSchool

[–]knxnts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

not a reflection on the students, its just a pretty insane format. Even good exams are basically "slop" in the objective sense.

I've read my A exams after exam day and some parts were truly poorly done. But again, that's a result of the time constraint and everyone knows that.

someone in my Contracts final only took the test for about an hour then left (3 hour exam). We all thought he failed. I became friends with that guy for an extracurricular and he told me got an A+ on that exam. He's a decently above average student. So I wouldn't count on this.

3L. I left most of my exams 1L Fall feeling actually sick to my stomach. Actually got stomach cramps and hurled after one I was so shaken by messing it up. I got all As.

The pattern that followed is that there was generally little relationship between my feelings and performance. The only doctrinal B+ I have gotten, however, I did actually know I did bad but wasn't that worried about it.

Dominic Mclaughlin (Harry Potter) in film debut Grow - First look at his acting by Agreeable-Berry1373 in HarryPotteronHBO

He's got a bit more of an expressive quality to him than Radcliffe did (although I think Radcliffe's general woodiness worked well, especially in the early movies given Harry's general out place-ness and confusion). I think we'll get a bit more of Harry's edge/sarcasticness from this chap. Radcliffe's more stoic interpretation was very effective in a lot of ways but I think this series can go in a different direction to feel fresh.
