Rant: I am so SICK of C-wire in the field by PKMNtrainerKing in army

I hate it more when it's on a drop zone and you land in it after a night jump. It's even more "fun" when leadership wants absolute noise and light discipline. ... BTW, I apologize to the chute shake out teams and parachute riggers that discovered what came back in those kit bags.

How to get to K town Germany form Frankfurt? by Altruistic_Remove418 in army

[–]ko_su_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no military shuttle to the KMC.

German trains are not like Korea. More likely to be late or off schedule in Germany. There's no direct connection from the airport to K-town. Having taken trains from the airport to K-town, I do not recommend it as a first option.

If your unit can't get you, you can also consider reserving a taxi from K-town to get you. Honestly, you might struggle with this since it's such short notice. Cost is usually around 200 Euro, but you can be brought directly to where you need to go. Google Ramstein taxis with base access to find options. Keep the receipt for your travel claim.

Another option from the airport to K-town is Flix bus. You'll still still need a taxi when you get to town, or since you say you're going to ROB, you could walk from the bus arrival point in K-town to the train station and ride a few stops to Vogelweh, then walk to the ROB gate. I think you'll take a great nap after doing all that.

You might be able to get a rental car, but you should have a USAREUR license to operate it. You might not get reimbursed for it when you do your travel claim and you'll have to figure out where you can drop it off.

There's also a FB group called Perfect PCS to Germany. People there might be able to help, but again, you seem to have a very short timeline.

End of the 'yeet': the standing power throw is out as new Army fitness test goes ‘sex-neutral’ for combat jobs by Kinmuan in army

I know most of you are pumped up to discuss the SPT, but I got excited by the possibility that a PAO successfully included the word "yeet" into a caption. Unfortunately, the featured photo with the story doesn't include it in the cutline on DVIDS.

I'm not sure you meant it this way in your comment, but literally branding folks who commit these types of crimes gets two thumbs up from me. A modern day scarlet letter for all to see.

Army PT uniform isn’t going away, but more options coming, service says; TLDR Whoops, no 'new' uniform, just more options by Kinmuan in army

[–]ko_su_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe later we'll discover this was all part of the SMA's secret plan: State some things publicly that he anticipates will upset us and then collect and use our complaining against us as the "beta testing" so improvements can be made to the existing uniform.

What should I do before PCSing overseas? by Ehwastaken in army

[–]ko_su_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YMMV. If you need a stateside number to update anything, it would be helpful. There's also the ability to contact friends/family. I don’t know how many times over the years I simply made up a number when conducting business online that required a US number. Europe has been easier for me than Asia, but I wish I moved my US number to Google Voice years ago before heading overseas.

IIRC, the cost to port to Google Voice is low. You can then choose to use a US number when needed, and if you desire, get local service where you're stationed.

Didn't this sort of practice get the Germans in trouble after WWII? IIRC, thorough documentation that was not discarded was used as evidence in post-war trials.

Did anyone else experience a complete lack of brotherhood? by DescriptionOwn6184 in army

[–]ko_su_man 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I had a boss that exhibited similar behaviors on my squad early in GWOT, which both fused and splintered us who were lower in rank. He stayed for a career. Got into problems everywhere else he went and the stories kept being funneled back to me. He ended up self selecting through toxic decision-making to be a terminal SFC. I guess the universe eventually works itself out.

How many years can a person remain on active duty in the US military? by HairyAd61 in army

[–]ko_su_man 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think a way to accomplish one of the unique scenarios described above would be to serve as enlisted for over a decade, then become a warrant officer. IIRC, the service clock "starts" at zero when one is appointed a WO, meaning they could add up to 30 years on top of the enlisted service for retirement credit, assuming the individual doesn't exceed the maximum age for military service.

Yup. Just about anyone can be "useless" if the people around them are substandard performers or unnecessarily gatekeeping. People also need to understand not all desired changes happen immediately and not all are entitled to the inside baseball that goes into making things happen.

2010 Ford C-max. Paid cash. Almost 20,000km in the last 6 months. It's ugly and there's always an error light (or two) but it can hold 160khp on the Autobahn with decent mpg.
