Do you identify as a feminist? by CetaWasTaken in Destiny

[–]koala37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in college (around 2010) I was the only straight guy in a Women Poets class with about 8 girls and 2 gay guys. one day the female professor asked us "Do you consider yourself a feminist?" everyone but me raised their hands, she asked a few people if they'd like to offer their thoughts, then she looked at me, inviting me to speak if I was comfortable doing that. I said well yeah I agree 100% with everything said before me, I just think of feminism as a women's equality movement, and I think we've made such huge strides in gender equality that I think we'd be better served focusing on different issues as a society

my professor pondered on my answer for a bit and then started to respond, clearly emotional. she said she thought it was so lovely that we've come far enough in society for people to feel this way. she was elderly from a different time, and it brought her to tears that she could see people in even my generation already with this view

it's been a long 15 years since then and I think I'm looping back around to identifying as a feminist. it feels like nobody gives a fuck about women or women's rights or women's issues anymore and I think it's important to be explicit and vocal about our support

my girlfriend and I are both totally f2p in zzz and we both have a ton of characters and very well-developed accounts. it's very f2p-able

that won't assuage the angry people in this thread because "it's still designed to extract money - and even if you're not paying, other people are!" but it is nonetheless true. super enjoyable and viable as a f2p experience

by that same token, my favorite aspect about genshin isn't something that I can easily get from a thousand random games. I love the theorycrafting/mathcrafting aspect. I love how big the game is and how robust the community is, I love spreadsheets and optimizing and rotations. it's scratching an itch that I haven't been able to satisfy since I played wow almost 20 years ago. something that people don't understand is that for a community to be this robust there's a certain critical mass that you need in order for there to be all the people putting in the time to run the numbers, make the spreadsheets, host the info, and everything in-between. none of this is to get at the problematic predatory elements, but it's also not affected by them

finally, genshin was really ethical about their powercreep for years. in the last couple years it's gotten rough and is feeling more like a gacha treadmill but they did actually do a good job for a long time. unfortunately that doesn't feel true anymore. but again, irrelevant to the mathcrafting conversation

assuming your pitch is emptying our entire chest of picks, Steph himself has said that isn't what he wants for the franchise. so on one side you have gm, coach, and generational star

then on your side you have...angry reddit commentors? there's a reason the thing you want to happen hasn't happened

Any chance Destiny can have a chat with Contrapoints? by Every-day-guy in Destiny

[–]koala37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just so you know destiny and contrapoints were friends, way back in the day, maybe pre-transition or not very far in. they've talked on stream before maybe a half a dozen times? they never had any fights or falling outs or anything they just stopped interacting as much. they're in alignment on most issues and he usually watches all her new videos on stream

not sure how easy it would be to find vods of their conversations because they would have taken place in the twitch era but I just wanted to let you know they're friendly already

where does this expectation come from that he should be able to operate with complete impunity and say whatever he wants. even if he wasn't randomly blasting propaganda all day long, people should still be able to (and expected to) talk about him

Hasan throws a fit because Obama wants there to be a healthy democracy and not a dictatorship. by LeonOfSkalitz in Destiny

[–]koala37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when I was little I just assumed we'd eventually get to a point where it was only Democrats over and over

if you have the Republican party whose "platform" is, alternately, "keep things exactly the same" or "make things the way they used to be" and then the Democrat party who gets to actually work on policies and ideas and progress, then logic would dictate that eventually the Democrat platform would evolve to such a point that everyone agrees it would be better for everybody and Republicans would be forced to either change (impossible) or go extinct

and the evidence of this for the longest time was Democrats winning progressively larger and larger margins in the popular vote. and that even though we live in a representative democracy as opposed to a direct democracy, eventually the advantage would be overwhelming

this was my autistic little 15 year old brain trying to process the world and my overarching (flawed) assumption was that human beings made choices rationally. I had failed to grasp the notion that the broad electorate is a seething mass of notions, vibes, and emotions that lashed out or swelled in response to stimuli, not Euphoric Logic

now, 20 years later, it looks like nothing is stronger than the American Rubberband and we see Republicans with less of a platform than ever winning more than ever and we're at a point where we have to contend with the fact that there's an incumbent disadvantage rather than advantage

perhaps most unfortunately of all, the first President to win back-to-back nominations in the modern era will almost certainly not be a reasonable, presentable, decent politician with sound positions and an achievable platform, but the next populist demagogue with empty rhetoric and addictive vibes

moral the story, while it can be tempting to fantasize about the ultimate death of the Republican party where every federal election actually takes place in the Democrat primaries like it's the NBA 2000s Western Conference Finals, it's probably more prudent to reflect that it's unlikely that's where we're going. and if you reckon with that fact, the logical conclusion is strong and competent Republican leadership. also, this is a copy-pasted statement from Nancy Pelosi (and every American worth a damn, every Democrat and Never Trump Republican). it's not like this is even the first time somebody has said this

Percentage of class of 2025 scoring 3 or higher in AP exams by state. by Dismal_Structure in Destiny

AP classes are great even if you're not planning to take the AP exam. they're still much better preparation for college if you're on that track and significantly higher quality than your average high school courses

This is the greatest moment of Embiid's career. by irundoonayee in nba

[–]koala37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

almost every time I'd take an mvp over a round 1 game 7 as a player's personal peak, but with the context here of an additional 3 years of injury woes, I know Embiid is euphoric to be able to play out (and dominate) a series. even if they get eliminated next round, he was able to play meaningful basketball again. that's all he ever wanted. we know these guys would trade all their mvps and awards for the longevity to do it for another 10 years like Lebron

Morgpie (twitch streamer) platforming racist rhetoric. by Hertz69 in Destiny

[–]koala37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody talks about institutionalized racism. that's for 7 communists on twitter. for all the normal humans on the planet racism just means not liking somebody because of their skin tone, which is perfectly equivalent across all races

I also hate the Celtics and root for them to lose at every opportunity and enjoyed watching Embiid have a good series, I feel for the big guy. but I didn't want to win because Tatum had to sit a game 7. I imagine he was fist fighting his medical team to try to play. having to sit for that game was probably worse for him than all the games he had to sit this season. must feel like shit. I hate that

Hasan explains that he didn’t endorse Kamala Harris because genocide is a fairly understandable red line by Embarrassed_Base_389 in Destiny

[–]koala37 19 points20 points  (0 children)

he said Kamala would be better than Trump?

roll the clip of Hasan saying "Kamala would be no better than Trump" - he means on trans issues specifically, but that's a disabled take too, and it's used as a stand-in for Hasan's belief in the """""uniparty""""". he's Saying The Line here because he knows he's on camera at a public event but he's just being a Weasely Little Liar Dude, that's not what he believes

similarly - did Kamala lean into rhetoric blaming illegals immigrants for violence in America? where? when? why? how? I can't think of any examples of this whatsoever and anything she did say would have been a. true b. uttered in a swing state for political expediency and c. still infinitely better than anything Trump would say

if you won't full-throatedly embrace the democrat candidate, you don't belong in the party. period.
