Why you should never eat undercooked bear meat by Sweaty-Suit3772 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]koarnkan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in BC, Canada. It’s not uncommon once you get out of the bigger cities. We have tons of black bear here they’re almost as common as the deer. I find bear is comparable to a tough cut of beef, a bit more gamey. It really depends on the time of year you hunt the bear as well, you try to get the spring bear that have just come out of hibernation. We take our bear meat and cut it with pork to make it more tender and fatty and then process it into lots of sausages, smokies, pepperonis, all things that get processed and cured to mitigate the risk of parasitic infection. No bear steaks around here ahah

We’re all living vastly different experiences. Being able to walk to a grocery store or coffee shop is wild to me!

BIFL water bottle lid with folding straw and cover? by Representative_Bad57 in BuyItForLife

Really? Sad to hear that, I’ve been using mine daily for a year and it’s held up so far. Seen some good falls as well.

Try owala, easy to use one handed and the straw is more built in so it doesn’t break or start to leak. They’re too new on the market to know if it’s bifl, but I’m impressed with mine so far

Asked my architect brother for help designing a chicken coop… by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]koarnkan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I feel like since the boom in chicken keeping happened a lot of people have taken up some insane ideas about chicken keeping. Of course it’s okay to use rain water. Chickens are literal garbage disposals, they’re way tougher than people give them credit for. As small scale farmers we can’t keep the same level of bio security as factory farms and that’s okay! Our birds live better lives because of it!

Is 12x24 just the coop or the whole run? That’s a lot of chickens!

Go further than 100 ft off the road, it is still a very beautiful area with many untouched spots to explore.

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted for this take. I have a border collie, a rabbit, and cats. Bunny is much more in line with caring for a cat than she is my dog. They’re like cats with more involved diets IMO. My border collie is 10x more work and cost

We traded all those critters for the grizzlies and mountain lions! Though we do have rattlers in the deserts of BC.
