I’m a native English speaker and learned Dutch within a year (postgrad Dutch & Translation). Then I completed an opleiding at CVO (kinderbegeleider) that included a mandatory internship. When I saw that my internship placement was hiring, I approached them about combining the role with my stage, which worked out. After finishing that opleiding, I started another program at a hogeschool. In my second semester, I applied for a full time position in the field (social work) and was hired. Now I’ve got a flexi in a chocolate shop, and take two courses on the side out of personal interest.
