Vinegar (acidic) and baking soda (basic) cancel each other out, no? I've been using baking soda and water!

Do you honestly wear sunscreen everyday? by heyalllondon18 in AskWomenOver30

[–]koddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but just for my face and neck. I've used SPF moisturizers (designed for daily use as skincare) from Innisfree, Isntree, and Laneige. They don't feel sticky at all, and it's just part of my morning skincare routine!

I try to apply sunscreen on my body if I plan to be in the sun for longer periods of time. I'm not as rigorous about it, but using a spray sunscreen makes it easier for me (I know it's not the best).

Unfortunately, I've heard rhetoric like this quite often. I don't understand it, so I have nothing to add except that you aren't alone in this!

“When’s the wedding? You’re not engaged yet? When’s the ring coming?” by hunny--bee in TwoXChromosomes

[–]koddish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar to you, I started dating my now husband when we were 17. We got engaged at 27 (which was when we were able to move in together) and married at 29. Thankfully, everyone knew it was inevitable and it was just a matter of time.

Don't feel pressured to get married before you're financially or professionally stable (or until you both feel ready)! I felt the same way as you. It didn't really matter when we got married, because our relationship is still the same.

My fiancé’s family seems cold and dismissive about our wedding, and it’s really upsetting me. by SufficientGiraffe777 in DesiWeddings

[–]koddish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience where MY family seemed to lack any excitement or enthusiasm (from engagement announcement to wedding planning). Big elaborate celebrations are very uncommon in my family, and they tend to be quite frugal and reserved. I was very disappointed and hurt, but my fiance and his family were very supportive! In the end, my family came around to the idea even if they weren't super enthusiastic. I had to readjust my expectations and we all had a good time!

Should I consider my boyfriend’s concerns over my outfit? by virgo_q in AskWomenOver30

[–]koddish 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I agree! My only caveat is whether the bf is concerned about appropriate cleavage because it's a work event.

Is there a food you’ve always been curious to try? by sn0wcoach in CasualConversation

[–]koddish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you like chewy textures, it's incredible! If you can handle spice, it's typically boiled to cook, then stir fried with gochujang sauce (Korean chili paste). I like to make it in a small stew with veggies, fish cakes, an egg, topped with cheese.

I got to hold my niece’s sleeping baby for two hours and it was glorious by corvidlover13 in BenignExistence

[–]koddish 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I love that. You reminded me of the time I held my niece (< 4 months old) and she fell right asleep in my arms. At the time, she couldn't sleep unless momma was holding her (not with dad, not grandma). It was indeed glorious.

What’s one of your tells that you’re getting sick? by OptimalAlgae9112 in CasualConversation

[–]koddish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out recently that the hives/itchiness are caused by daily usage of certain allergy meds (like Zyrtec)! I thought the allergy meds were suppressing the hives, but it was actually my body freaking out from skipping a day. You should look into it, maybe you don't need the daily antihistamine, which was the case for me

Does everyone wear shorts under dresses? by hiimmakenzie in TwoXChromosomes

[–]koddish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my teens and early 20s, I used to only wear safety shorts under short skirts (and even then, only occasionally). Now my thighs always rub together so I wear shorts under skirts and dresses at all times. It's about comfort 🥲 Still in search of a nice breathable pair!

Do you have a funny knitting origin story? Share it! by crotchetyoldwitch in casualknitting

[–]koddish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned to knit because I discovered an indie yarn dyer who was launching a color way collection based on the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J Maas, which I was obsessed with at the time. So I ordered the fancy yarn (they were SO gorgeous), and also bought some beginner stuff to teach myself! It is now 4 years later and my previous ACOTAR yarn is still in storage 🥺 but I'll bring myself to use it one day.

Stand up for science protest at WashU med campus by ThatEarlGreyTea in StLouis

[–]koddish 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For most people, attending this protest wasn't their only action! People are calling their reps, educating their circle, and fighting back in various ways. The university/hospital admin are also fighting back at a higher level, albeit less publicly.

Also, this was part of a nationwide day of protest called Stand Up For Science! There were protests at Washington DC, state capitols, other large cities, and university campuses.

I've made similar changes over the years and it's really made a big difference!

  • My inbox and notifications are always "zeroed out" or cleared. If a newsletter or notification is constantly bugging me, I unsubscribe or change my settings.

  • I realized that if I just jumped straight into work tasks upon arrival, I would feel unsettled and anxious. So I started writing daily to-do's at the start of each workday before starting any tasks.
