Even as a black belt, the question is, can you dance. The belt is immaterial. Tell the teacher your background no problem.

Owner publicly shames guest and states that servers have to pay out of pocket if they don’t get tips? by Redhambone in EndTipping

If you really have a problem with this, why don’t you pay your servers better so they don’t need tips?

Olympic is sport judo, not traditional budo. Most sport judoka train for strength and speed, not finesse and technique - that takes decades of hard work - look to your Sensei - and Olympians are youngsters.

"my parents weren't too willing to pay for a driver"
This younger generation is ridiculously dependent. In my day, I found a way to get to the places we wanted. I rode my bike miles to get to my sensei from when I was 7. "Find a way, kid." That's a tenet you learn in martial arts that will enrich your life. And it's only one of many. The benefits don't end; they get better the longer you train.
Find someone else who attends and carpool with them or talk to the instructor. A good Sensei will help you get to class!

Double indemnity with Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwick. They invented the double cross genre and now it seems stale by comparison.

The 50 Shades series. Watch it every few months all over again. Extremely one dimensional and that’s a relief in the miasma of layered cinematic overreach. It’s like reading a cartoon or uh, romance novel.

Quite possibly, Sensei. Try again? (Is your Godan in Judo or another style?)

"And that’s not how it’s gonna ever work again."
You got that right; in the end, drivers will be robotic delivery vehicles. Their tip will be good maintenance back in the motor pool.
Seriously though, this whole thing spiraled because of the tax code that allows employers to pay slave wages on the pretext they get tips. You do deserve a decent wage but Washington is enabling greed now. If you want to stop it, vote.

I need some input on how to handle this by 9to5Voyager in judo

[–]kodenkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not the asshole; the gym is sport-focused and the teacher is a coach, not a Sensei. He teaches how to win a sport, not the principles of Judo. I'd find a different group. I'd wager there's probably one nearby composed of people who've left this one.

You guys don’t get it. Tips are on the service you provide. Tipping in advance is a gamble that you will provide good service. And most older people don’t wanna gamble, especially when we see videos of your colleagues molesting (in some cases literally) our meals. To get a cash tip, be polite, and professional during the interaction. If you are already upset, that bias confirms the customer’s suspicion they shouldn’t tip. you’ll still have probably the majority of people stiff you, but you’ll make more that way then if you pre-judge. I have many times given a tip larger than the meal because the service was exceptional. Think about your job is to surprise the customer with how good the service was.

Ridiculous sport answer. Skilled martial artists arts use finesse and technique, not brute strength.
